Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has died in hospital, royal officials have announced.

A statement, made early on Friday, said his brother, Salman, had become king.

Before the announcement, Saudi television cut to Koranic verses, which often signifies the death of a senior royal.

King Abdullah, who was said to be aged about 90, had been in hospital for several weeks suffering from a lung infection.

Abdullah came to the throne in 2005 but had suffered frequent bouts of ill health in recent years.

King Salman, 79, had recently taken on the ailing monarch's responsibilities.

The late king's half brother Muqrin, who is in his late 60s, has been named the new crown prince, the official statement said.

The BBC's Frank Gardner says Saudi Arabia could face an increasing internal security problem following the death of King Abdullah

All three are sons of the founder of modern Saudi Arabia, King Abdulaziz, usually referred to as Ibn Saud, who died in 1953.

King Salman called on the royal family's Allegiance Council to recognise Muqrin as his crown prince and heir.

"His Highness Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and all members of the family and the nation mourn the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who passed away at exactly 1am this morning," the statement said.

US President Barack Obama expressed his personal sympathies and those of the American people, on the death of King Abdullah.

"As a leader, he was always candid and had the courage of his convictions. One of those convictions was his steadfast and passionate belief in the importance of the US-Saudi relationship as a force for stability and security in the Middle East and beyond," he said.

Abdullah was the 13th of the 37 sons of King Abdulaziz. He is believed to have been born in August 1924 in Riyadh, although there is some dispute about his actual birth date.

When he came to the throne in 2005 he succeeded another half-brother, Fahd.

However, he had already been Saudi Arabia's de-facto leader for 10 years because his predecessor had been debilitated by a stroke.

Correspondents say Abdullah was seen as a reformer at home, albeit a slow and steady one.

He allowed mild criticism of his government in the press, and hinted that more women should be allowed to work. (BBC)

Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) said in Authentic Hadeeth:

أخبرنا إبراهيم بن يعقوب قال حدثني أحمد بن إسحق قال حدثنا وهيب قال حدثنا منصور بن عبد الرحمن عن أمه عن عائشة قالت ذكر عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم هالك بسوء فقال لا تذكروا هلكاكم إلا بخير

Sayyida Aisha (RA) narrates that Something bad was said in the presence of the Prophet (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) about a person who had died. He said: 'Do not say anything but good about your dead" [Sunan An-Nasa'i]

King Abdullah of Saudia has passed away at the age of 91.

m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-30945324

While there was a lot of criticism of him and his Government policies during his lifetime, now (as Muslims) we utter:

Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajioun

And we remind ourselves...

Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) said in Authentic Hadeeth:

أخبرنا إبراهيم بن يعقوب قال حدثني أحمد بن إسحق قال حدثنا وهيب قال حدثنا منصور بن عبد الرحمن عن أمه عن عائشة قالت ذكر عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم هالك بسوء فقال لا تذكروا هلكاكم إلا بخير

Sayyida Aisha (RA) narrates that Something bad was said in the presence of the Prophet (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) about a person who had died. He said: 'Do not say anything but good about your dead" [Sunan An-Nasa'i]

how is he our dead when he allied himself with the kuffar against the muslims and islam, and openly betrayed islam and the muslims for the benefit of the kuffar?

He is no longer here to defend himself, therefore the Hadith stands and that is one of the wisdoms of the words of Our beloved (saw)

We can't make judgements "now". He believed in Allah and his last Prophet (saw), faced Qiblah to offer Salah etc etc, the rest is between him and Allah.

I can only reiterate the words of Rasullulah (saw)

Sayyida Aisha (RA) narrates that Something bad was said in the presence of the Prophet (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) about a person who had died. He said: 'Do not say anything but good about your dead" [Sunan An-Nasa'i]

We have a choice, we can either follow the Sunnah, or backbite and slander the deceased. I'm sure we would all opt for the Sunnah. I'm not accusing anyone of back-biting or slander, just reminding of the consequences.

He (saw) said: "Do not say anything but good about your dead"

Rather than looking at any bad deeds, it would be better to list the good that he had done.

He took care of the Haramain, he had started one of the biggest expansions of the two Holy Mosques in history.

Salam

Who cares if he died ? Your local drug dealer/thug/sellout politician dies, do you care despite him being a Muslim ?

Him and his regime have muslim blood on their hands, they sold islam and many other direct charges against them, they will be held accountable for it by the Almighty Allah

With death it doesn't end, but it just started, and dhulm according to ahadith will be darkness on yaumul Qiyamah.

  1. He was a Muslim if you have categoric evidence that he died on Kuf'r please bring it forward agreed upon by Ulama that he died on Kuf'r
  2. His actions don't absolve us from following the Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) about those who have passed away.  Ulama of the past even kept silent about Hajjaj Ibn Yusuf (RA) due to this Hadeeth so I suggest that your keep your book of deeds clear
  3. He was a leader (of his people) and it is from the noble Sunnah of Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) to consider that
  4. He has died; let Allah (SWT) Judge him

Your book of deeds; your call.

Yes indeed and lets turn a blind eye towards all the muslim blood he has on his hands and completely forget that. For me that's something I can't do,apologies for that.

No one here is talking about kufr apart from it being in your own head.

Then he is "one of our dead" and this is what brother xs11ax was implying.
