Asalamualaikum respected brothers.

This is sort of confusing, so, I'll try to be clear.

1) On Monday, I woke up to fast, and awoke at 07:00am for Sehri, and thought the end time was 07:23am (end of Fajr time). The actual end time for Sehri was 05:42am (start of Fajr time).

I got the 2 mixed up. Is my fast valid?

2) On Tuesday, I woke well the start of Fajar time, but got the actual time wrong by a few minutes, and likely continued eating after that time, and even brushed my teeth. I realised this yesterday when checking the time for today on our timetable.

Can, some brothers kindly clarify.

Shaykh (Mufti) Siraj Desai (HA):

Q: I wake up for sehri, then prepare the food to eat, and while eating the baby wakes up and I need to make her sleep or give her milk. What if the time passes the sehri cut off. Are we allowed to eat, or do we need to fast with empty stomachs?

A:
If a person eats after the time of Sehri has ended, the fast for that day will not be valid regardless of the reason for missing sehri. You should adjust your time to accommodate your Sehri and feeding the baby or compulsorily fast without sehri. It is not permissible to miss a fast just because one did not have sehri, nor is it permissible to eat after dawn. If one of these two acts occur, you will have to keep qadhaa for that day.

Right, so BOTH fasts are invalid. Great, what a bloody waste. Should've clarified sooner instead of thinking my fast will still be valid.

Jazak'Allah for the answer.

Muadh's post doesn't answer yours as the question asks about eating knowingly due to the baby. Your issue will require a different, more relevant Q&A

Asalamualaikum, akhi.

Do you have any links to any Q/A sites to confirm this? I've done a little research too, but all the answers are pretty generic.

Bahishti Zewar(Heavenly Ornaments) The chapter sehri & Iftaar

7: A person woke up a bit late and thought that there is some time left. On this assumption, he made sehri. Later he learnt that he had actually made sehri after dawn. His fast will not be valid. He should make qada but kaffarah will not be wâjib. However, he should still abstain from eating or drinking anything and remain like any normal fasting person.

In the same way, if a person thinks that the sun has set and opens his fast and thereafter the sun appears, his fast will break. He will have to make qada of this but there will be no kaffarah on him. After having learnt that the sun has not set as yet, he should abstain from consuming anything until sunset.
