I do not know what to make of this thread. Of course it is essential to make sure you find what you are looking for in your prospective spouse, and he does not have any hidden agendas or evil intentions, or qualities not befitting of a Muslim / good husband, or future plans which you do not share, especially when no one you trust knows him or his situation personally.

Question:

As salamu alaykum, what is the position of our school (SHAFI') about the niqab?

Answer:

Wa alaykum salam wa rahmatuLlahi wa barakatuHu,

Whether a woman must cover her face and hands is a point on which Ibn Hajar and Ramli differed. In Tuhfah, Ibn Hajar goes the way of maintaining that it is not wajib (but something the government can compel her to do in the public’s interest maslahah). In Nihayah, Ramli maintains that it is wajib. They differed on the evidence. There is an ijma’ reported by Qadi ‘Iyad that women do not need to cover the faces and hands, Ramli declares this as weak. Ibn Hajar maintained that Imam Nawawi established it in Sharh Sahih Muslim.

In ‘Umdat al-Mufti wa al-Mustafti, Sh. Ahdal’s view aligns with Ibn Hajar’s. Also, in Hashiyat al-Jamal, the following is stated,

“And this is supported by the agreement that the rulers may prevent women from going out with their faces uncovered; and is refuted by that preventing them from that is not from it being wajib, rather because in it is a public interest. Here, Qadi ‘Iyad related from the scholars [ijma’] that it is not obligatory on women to cover their faces, and that it is obligatory on men to lower their gazes from them. So if women know that strange men will gaze upon them, covering is obligatory. This is what Ibn Hajar stated. And my shaykh weakened what Qadi ‘Iyad reported. (sic) The correct view is what Ibn Hajar stated.” (Halabi)

And Allah knows best.

السّلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Look sis I don't know know where you come from but back home when it comes to wedding it is the elders and parents who do all the verification.

So I just want to give you a few humble advices..

Asking the guy all these things would put them off and it all makes one like a fanatic, just imagine he could be all fine and we are making unnecessary masala (as in curry) out of it?

Ask his neighbours about him, ask his colleagues, ask the imam of the masjid he frequents to, there must be some masjid he goes regularly, I'll give you one more method through a mod I'm very hopeful إن شآء الله of it helping you.

But you do it all through someone very senior elder experienced etc not a young guy.

and have hope not doubts - marriage even for men is a big deal not just the women.

Is he of a desi background? indo la madhabis avoid them I suggest, I'm not saying he is one.

adopt tafweez.

I'll give you another method through mods I'll give you 2 methods to help ascertain his views.

With all the valuable information on this thread and due to personal reasons I have not proceeded with this proposition.

Jazakallah for your advises, however UK is very different to how it generally works in the Asian communities as well as the communies around UK.

I do not have a mehram or a wali, neither am I a part of any particular community.

@Sis Moonlight,

For a pious spouse, recite this dua frequently:

"Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhuriyyatina qurrata A'yunin waj'alna lil-muttaqina imama."

"Our Lord! grant us in our mates and offspring the joy of our eyes and make us patterns for those who guard against evil." (25:74)

It's a dua from the Quran Kareem.

Before the dua recite "Ya Awwalal awwalin ya aakhiral aakhireen ya zal quwwatil matin ya rahimal masaakin ya arhamar rahimeen"

Then recite durood (salutations upon the Final Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him) and then recite the above Quranic dua.

And remember make dua as much as possible not just after salat etc. Even doing mundane chores...like a kid who doesn't care if his or her parents are busy or even sleeping he asks them whatsoever the situation they are in..so make dua even if you are cooking or drivibg, the eyes are on the road ahead but the qalb (heart) is fixed on the Almighty.

You never know which is a moment of qubooliyat - don't miss the time on Fridays between asr and maghrib salat.

I make duas while locking the door of the house, or putting clothes in the washing machine..

Don't forget sadaqah and salat ul hajat.

Prior to making dua seek forgiveness for the sins and praise Allah ta'ala as much as possible ( that's why I gave you Ya Awwalala Awwalin)

And remember the above solutions have got nothing to do with one being Asian or non Asian.

Simply ask them for a few things. Madhab and their imams. See if they slander certain madhabs and how they react if perhaps you say you don’t follow their scholars.

I can confirm speaking from experience that unfortunately some young men that follow the “salafi” way of Islam unfortunately do like putting up and act in front of the women folk in order to entice them but when the time comes to perhaps have conversations with other brothers that follow different madhabs even sometimes their own madhab they become aggressive all of a sudden and their egos start to show. Suddenly everything is a “bidah” and everyone that doesn’t follow their imams or teachers are all “misguided and are all upon kufr.

Yesterday a salafi sent me the hadith below
Abdullah b. Miqsam reported that he saw
Abdullah b. Umar as he narrated Allah's
Messenger ( ) as saying:
Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, would take in His
hand His Heavens and His Earth, and would say: I
am Allah. And He would clench His fingers and
then would open them (and say): 1 am your Lord.

trying to prove Allah's limbs are literal. What is the explanation of this hadith. On face value it does like rasoolullah (saw), is implying physical hand to Allah but we know this is impossible.

This kind of mindset and attitude of certain groups have created an image of Allah. I recall one of our scholars saying that they have painted an image of Allah as a monster. (not a literal image, but a metaphorical image)

I think it might have been Mufti Abdur Rahmnan ibn Yusuf Mangera in a talk about Aqeedah. (I will correct myself or share the clip if I find it)

The wordings of the Hadith are for our little minds to understand what is being told to us at our level of understanding and comprehension. And Allah knows best.
