Marraige is like a watermelon.

No idea if its sweet until you have purchased it, brought it home and opened it and by that time its too late! :P

Actually it's more like a car. You just have to trust the seller and there's only so many questions you can ask.

Very funny...think the images are a little unfair, talk about adding confusion to an already confusing topic.

Yep but I agree. There's only so many questions a person can ask, and your not going to know until youve taken the step.

Suppose you can only do so much within your own capacity, then have to trust your own judgement. Also bearing in mind all the advices provided on the thread.

It is difficult for sisters to assess and make life changing decisions. Is your deen going to be better off or worse off with marriage.

I'm asking myself the same questions, although my intentions are sincere, who knows whether I'm going to be worse or better off?

Is it a risk worth taking?

Forget it this topic is a headache, yes br.superglue a headache, not dissing the sunnah, a personal experience!

Don't be mistaken by the Taraweeh. They can pray both and consider 8 to be closer to Sunnah. Since he knows you are Hanafi, he'l probably tell you the mosque he goes to does 8/20 and he just prays behind them.

I'm gonna be blunt, so please don't get upset about it. :)

SOME Salafi's can easily change their opinions to suite their needs, so any question you throw at him, the response will be in compliance to your school of thought. I remember Ali accusing them of being Shia in the sense that they practice Taqiyah (lies to cove them selves up)

If he is a Shafi' (and I'm not sure if this position still stands) you can ask him: after marriage, every time his skin accidentally brushed against his wife, would he have to repeat his wudhu? For example, a hand shake!

One major issue you will find with them is that SOME of them don't consider "us" to be from Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamma' So as far as they are concerned, they are from the saved sect and their spouse isn't (or wont be)

They label our Ulama as Jahmi etc and don't consider them to be of Ahle Sunnah, but for some reason they still pray behind them.

Ask him about such scholars who are controversial figures according to them such as ibn Arabi and as a trick question ask him for his opinion on Tahirul Qadri.

Don't tell him you are deobandi just yet. Play along the lines of a Barelwi and if he is positive and shows dislike for Tahirul Qadri, then that's one step forward, if he shows dislike for ibn arabi (whom even I never quote), then again that's one step closer. If he calls ibn Arabi a Kaafir, then he's definitely a Salafi!

Yes there are serious brothers who are great

Ask him which contemporary Scholars he follows and listens to or reads from? This is the question Madkhalees use to discount marraige partners because it easily separates wheat from the chaff.

Jazakallah.

That's exactly what concerns me, initially he was very open, and he said something about Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam's fatawa's being a joke, but soon after i made it clear I was hanafi any questions deen related became vague, and like your post states now I'm just getting tow along answers to fit the purpose, which is making it more difficult to come to any conclusion.

I will definitely take your advices on board.

I've asked and he says he doesn't follow any specific scholar, ulama or Masjid.

That's what I mean by the answers are vague.

He's doing his own ijtihad!

If he doesn't take his Deen from scholars and is self learned, he's definitely a ghair muqallid of some sort.

This guy seems very deceptive. i wouldn't trust him, especially for my sister!

Brother abu Mohammed what do you make of the following, I had to play a bit dumb.

I asked if he could recommend a speaker because I wanted to listen to a talk, he recommended tariq jameel.

I asked if tahirul Qadri was any good, he said his talks were powerful but his beliefs are slight different

I asked if tahirul Qadri was brelwi and he said no

I asked what was different, and he said some interpretations of tafsir

I said, he's qadiani? No response

Interesting.

He knows you are Hanafi, so Tariq Jameel is a nice gettaway.
Tahirul Qadri's talks are powerful :) funny - He doesnt have slight belief issues, his issues are major in Fiqh and Aqeedah. He' a Barelwi, definitely.

I'm beginning to wonder if this guy is for real!

Okay, you can tell him that Tariq Jameel's listeners says Allah is everywhere! Tell him you are confused about it.
