How can a person identify a persons aqeeda. On face value it's difficult to identify a persons religious beliefs. If someone for example says they are from the shafi'i madhab, yet they state they pray with their feet apart, are they salafi?

What questions could you ask to determine whether a person is a salafi?

This is a brilliant topic.

Many years ago there was a proposal for my little sister. We arranged to meet the husband to be at a friend's house and at the time I wasn't familiar with "salafis" but I heard of ahle hadith.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, my cousin did all the questioning and asked him certain things like where his local mosque was, who his Imam was and so on.

I already made my mind up about the brother coz he just looked too old for my sis.

Luckily the guy asked if we'd heard of a particular Imam. My cousin had heard of him and the discussion continued.

Eventually everyone had left and my cousin broke the good news to me and my sister. He said the guy was an ahle hadith. His Imam was popular and the mosque was notorious for being controversial.

From experience, the salafi guys only look for problems in brothers, when it comes to the sisters, they sort of become softy and hide their hardcore salafi attitude. They become all defensive for the schools and make it seem like they're all hunky dori.

It's important for our sisters to recognize these salafi guys and same for our brothers too. They can be deceiving.

Would be great to get a guideline of what to look out for.

By the way, sorry if I've gone off topic. For me, this is what it means to identify a salafi.

This is a similar situation, but when the brother was asked which Masjid he attended, he said any.

All I know is that he studied in Egypt, but didn't complete the course, but wanted to complete nadwa in india. Didnt quite understand any of it.

Are their specific scholars or books salafi brothers follow?

Depending on the type of communication you have or via an intermediary, ask if 3 talaqs in one go equal to 3 or 1. If he says 3 talaqs are 1, then he's Salafi.

I know this is about identifying a Salafi, but I have a thread on 100 premarital questions. Maybe you can select some that suite your needs and take things from there.

Thankyou that's helpful, but without knowing how a salafi brother would answer general questions wouldn't help in any way.

The three talaq counted as one is a good one to ask. Any other such example questions would be helpful.

I don't think asking about talaaq to a marriage potential is the right way to go.

no need to try to figure out, simply ask which madhhab they strictly follow. in the answer, if you hear quran and sunnah, all madhhab, strongest opinion etc you'll know. these things can follow even after they say a madhhab. they can't help it

That's why I'm confused, the brother says he's shafi'i madhab but after further questioning said something like yes definitely, salaf saliheen, so to further clarify whether he was Salafi he was asked , oh so you pray salah with your feet apart, and he replied yes.

Totally confused, because I've read that in the shafi'i madhab the brothers can keep their feet apart upto one handspan. Is this true?

All this is very confusing, and at the end of the day does it matter?

He's got good akhlaq better than some hanafi brothers I've heard of.

Each to their own grave right?

What's the point of fitting the right criteria, when your akhlaq is despicable?

When it comes to marriage, the salafi are wolves in sheep skin.

Remember when they came here to debate. They were really aggressive but when they replied to sisters, man they were like a whole new person.

You better find out for sure, I just read an interesting article on marriage fraud and these salafi fit the description. Careful.

These guys have great akhlaq in front of women, but when the mask comes off, they are horrible things. They won't even tell you if they got more wives at home until you walk through the door and then get introduced. Many of these salafi, (according to some sites) get married, take a trial, divorce and then pass them onto their mates.

Myself a Shafi'i , Yes, we place feet with one hand span.. not an Arm span like the salafis.. while they tie hands on the chest ( sometimes even on necks) and we place just below the chest..

If possible inquire..

1. His opinion of Imam Abu Hanifa ุฑุญู…ุฉ ุงู„ู„ู‡ ุนู„ูŠู‡ and the Hanafi Mad'hab.

2. His opinion on Deoband and Tasawwuf.

3. Does he approve 20 Rakaat Taraweeh.

ive learnt of salafi marriage bandits.. brothers from UK can elaborate further..

Better be cautious..

wa Assalam..
