You'll find no Halal-certified social network totally free from fitnah, it depends all on how you use it.
And trust me although I started using Twitter lately you don't miss out on anything, if you stay away from all of them.

I was just saying that if your condition is a totally fitnah free social network, then you should not compromise on it for mere news or information. Otherwise you can use Twitter if you are careful and disciplined about which members you follow.

Alternatively, you can also state the type of information/news you are looking for and maybe members here can direct you towards authentic sources.

None now and to be honest it's the best decision I made.

Most of these places are a waste of time and unnecessary. I knew a brother who even stopped reading the news just to disconnect himself from everything so he could focus on himself. One of the hardest things to do in today's age is to disconnect yourself, but if you do and you have something to focus on, you'll feel the difference, try it.

I can see clearly how's the condition of these people who disconnect themselves from all social networking sites. Gaza has turned into the largest graveyard of the world, yet they've very little or no concern! How is it possible to feel other Muslims' pain without watching their situation?

Sometimes I'm wondering how the world was running before the advent of social media. (lol says the one advertising his twitter account in his signature... have you followed yet?)

I may be wrong but in my small home town I haven't observed in any Masjid a single Du'a made for Gaza. Here people get news from TV and newspapers only. As 'Ulama don't watch TV, 2-3 photos and news on the newspaper can't describe the gravity vividly I guess.

Just to give you people a brief summary of my thoughts on this issue. No one has to agree, but myself has been convinced of this for a long time now. If any Mods regard it as deviating from the straight path, he's free to delete this post without any notice.

Now, it's a fact that especially Television, Internet (incl. social media) and Mobile phones are being utilized by certain people (or rather influences) to deliberately create doubts about the Islamic beliefs and commandments, deprive societies of noble values and turn people's attention away from the Hereafter. They have costed thousands of humans their Imaan and houses their peace, with many more at stake...

I am not implicating to ban the internet nor that mobiles are Haram. By all means, if certain conditions compel you to use them go ahead. But I disagree with the idea, that the necessity of them should be declared the default. I do not believe that an internet connection and mobile phone are among the necessities in the life of each and every individual on this planet and I deeply pray that Allah changes our approach towards them. Discouraging people from using these mediums might sound crazy to you and obviously they will not go away anytime soon (or even later) but in my humble opinion the collateral damage has been too devistating for it to be taken lightly. You'll argue now that these are just an instrument like a knife, it can be used for good and likewise for bad. But if you observe how many of it's users are actually inflicted by it's evils, then you realize how shallow this comparison is, and the idea to still regard them as neutral in general. The evil clearly outweighs the good...

By the way, do we really need to see the pictures of dozens dead children and damaged homes daily to feel concerned? Besides that, we started a few weeks ago crying over innocent children losing their lives (and rightly so). But many of these Mullahs that are not up-to-date enough according to us have been crying over innocent children losing their Iman for decades. Our super-fast internet connection supplies us with world-wide news and images within seconds and on our forums we have apparently highly intellectual and academical discussions on issues that no one else is concerned about, so we got it all figured out... right?
