Just read on twitter from someone who posted that saying MashaAllaah is not enough for avoiding evil eye. Instead should say this..

"And why did you, when you entered your garden, not say, 'What Allah willed [has occurred]; there is no power except in Allah (Maa shaa Allaahu laa quwwata illaa billaah)'? Although you see me less than you in wealth and children." (Soorah al-Kahf, 18:39)

Some scholars have said based on the above ayah, that if a person sees something that pleases him with regards to his wealth he should say, "Maa shaa' Allaahu laa quwwata illaa billaah."

And if it is with regards to oneself, or someone/something else, he should say, "Allaahumma baarik wa laa tadurrahu," "Allaahumma baarik 'alayhi" "Allaahummah baarik feehi" etc based on the hadeeth, "If one of you sees in himself or his brother something that he likes, let him pray for blessings, for the evil eye is real." [al-Haakim]

Bismillah was salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullah,

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam also advised us how to overcome the effect of an evil eye. Consider the following Hadīth:

"مَنْ رَأَى شَيْئًا فَأَعْجَبَهُ، فَقَالَ: مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ، لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ، لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ الْعَيْنُ ". يَعْنِي: لَا يُصِيبُهُ الْعَيْنُ"

"Whoever sees something, likes it - and says 'Māshā-Allāh lā quwwata illā billāh' - nothing will harm him [meaning he will stay protected from the evil eye]."

It is stated in another Hadīth:

ما أنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ على عَبْدٍ نِعْمَةً في أهْلٍ ومَالٍ وَوَلَدٍ فَقالَ: ما شاءَ اللَّهُ لا قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ باللَّهِ، فَيَرَى فِيها آفَةً دونَ الموت

"Allah does not bestow any favor in terms of family, wealth and children to [His] slave, after which he says: 'Māshā-Allāh, laa quwwata illaa billaah' and he will see a calamity in it besides death [meaning he is protected from every calamity besides death]."[3]

Hence, reciting Māshā-Allāh immobilizes the effects of the evil eye.

The hadeeth mentinos the words "Allaa Barakta?" meaning why did you not use wordings of barakah for him. This use of barakah can be in any wording. There is no restriction for this.

Ibn Battal rahimahulla mentioned

[right]شرح صحيح البخارى لابن بطال (9/ 430)
(ألا بركت) فيه أن من رأى شيئًا فأعجبه فقال: تبارك الله أحسن الخالقين وبرك فيه[/right]

Abu Umr Qurtubi rahimahullah mentioned

الاستذكار (8/ 400)
وَقَوْلُهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَلَا بَرَّكْتَ يَدُلُّ عَلَى أَنَّ مَنْ أَعْجَبَهُ شَيْءٌ فَقَالَ تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ فِيهِ وَنَحْوَ هَذَا لَمْ يَضُرُّهُ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ

The underline words wa nahwuhu clarifies that any wordings may be used for this purpose. The same Qurtubi in his Tamheed mentions

التمهيد لما في الموطأ من المعاني والأسانيد (6/ 240)
فَوَاجِبٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مَنْ أَعْجَبَهُ شَيْءٌ أَنْ يُبَرِّكَ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا دَعَا بِالْبَرَكَةِ صرف الْمَحْذُورُ لَا مَحَالَةَ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ وَالتَّبْرِيكُ أَنْ يَقُولَ تَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ فيه

Abu Waleed al Baaji rahimahullah says

المنتقى شرح الموطإ (7/ 256)
إذَا بَرَّكَ وَهُوَ أَنْ يَقُولَ: بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيهِ بَطَلَ الْمَعْنَى الَّذِي يُخَافُ مِنْ الْعَيْنِ

Ibn Hajar asqalani rahimahullah says

فتح الباري لابن حجر (10/ 205)
أَلا بَركت عَلَيْهِ وَفِي رِوَايَة بن ماجة فَليدع بِالْبركَةِ وَمثله عِنْد بن السُّنِّيِّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ وَأَخْرَجَ الْبَزَّار وبن السُّنِّيِّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَنَسٍ رَفَعَهُ مَنْ رَأَى شَيْئًا فَأَعْجَبَهُ فَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ

Mulla Ali Qari rahimahullah says,

مرقاة المفاتيح شرح مشكاة المصابيح (7/ 2885)
(أَلَّا) : بِتَشْدِيدِ اللَّامِ لِلتَّنْدِيمِ (بَرَّكْتَ؟) بِتَشْدِيدِ الرَّاءِ أَيْ: هَلَا قُلْتَ بَارَكَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ، حَتَّى لَا تُؤَثِّرَ فِيهِ الْعَيْنُ، وَفِي مَعْنَاهُ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى:
وَلَوْلَا إِذْ دَخَلْتَ جَنَّتَكَ قُلْتَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
[الكهف: 39]

Muhammad ibn Ali al Shawkani rahimahullah also mentions the "Ma' sha' Allah..."

نيل الأوطار (8/ 249)
" أَلَا بَرَّكْتَ عَلَيْهِ " وَفِي رِوَايَةِ ابْنِ مَاجَهْ " فَلْيَدْعُ بِالْبَرَكَةِ " وَمِثْلُهُ عِنْدَ ابْنِ السُّنِّيِّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ. وَأَخْرَجَ الْبَزَّارُ وَابْنُ السُّنِّيِّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَنَسٍ رَفَعَهُ " مَنْ رَأَى شَيْئًا فَأَعْجَبَهُ فَقَالَ: مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إلَّا بِاَللَّهِ لَمْ يَضُرَّهُ

The same is mentions in Abul `ala Mubarakpuri in his Tuhfatul Ahwazi.

Conclusion being, any of such words of barakah may be used. Using the ones mentioned in hadeeth (i.e. Masha' Allah...) ought to suffice but if someone wishes he may use the combination as well.

so mufti sahib which is the word we can use, or any one of the above duas are sufficient. so then the original image I posted stands correct or not?

Bismillahi ta'ala,

I would prefer مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ , but any of the above bold ones will suffice.

The image according to this info will not be entirely correct. Any of these measures will inshAllah be beneficial in warding the evil eye.

Very funny brother. Sheesh... must we spell it out so it is a little less 'ambiguous' for the knowledgable? By the way, how did you come up with 7 - wasn't that ambiguous too?

Okay then, question - take 2 - insha'Allah:
