I'm not sure if this thread has already been done, but what do you think of those people who have an Iman rush and decide to give it their all for those 30 days only, but intend to (reluctantly) to go back to their old ways?

Is this something to be encouraged and pleased with as it's better than nothing. We all know the Hadith where the Prophet (SAW) cursing those people who never made full use of Ramadan when taking 3 stemps on the mambar.

Or is it something to be frowned upon as their picking and choosing when it counts to be true Muslim (submitter) to Allah's rules and regulations?

As for intentions of a person to revert back to old ways, that only Allah Ta'ala can know. So its none of our concern.

All we need to do is get ourselves to do ibadah and InshaAllah encourage others too.

Respected Brother, it is good that you have asked about this thing which concerns you..

Hidayah is only and solely in the Hands Of Allah.. we humans should keep husne Dhan about people.. we never know a person might do something really great on laylatul Qadr while we might be sleeping since we thought low about the person. I aint saying this to the op but to myself first.
The Qudrat is in Allah's hands..He can make a prostitute a WaliUllah.. He can give Hidayah and the taufeeq to a model to do way more Ebadah than us..
Even if we see someone going back to the life of sins..Allah Ta'la might have excepted His Deeds and He is being tested.. maybe he hates to do sins but cant help himself.. since he was so adicted to the things? Maybe its his friends he is scared to lose because he is an orphan and doesnt want to experience the old loneliness which he had to suffer from in childhood.. He is still trying.. Maybe he prays Tahajud at midnight and we are pleased that we pray Esha with 2 nafl Tahajud..

Maybe Allah accepted his prayers and He didnt accept ours.. ( Aaodubillah). Maybe he thinks too low of himself while we dont.. May Allah protect..

We cannot afford to think strange about a person.. can only make Dua.. May Allah give Hidayah to all with Aafiyah ameen.

As mentioned in the hadeeth, Ramadhan is the month of Allah and the month of the Quraan.

Naturally, out of respect, and in honour of this month, every muslim tries (or should try) their utmost to increase their ibadah and refrain from sinning - irrespective of how sinful they may be throughout the year. That's called respecting the month holy month of ramadhan and not picking and choosing.

The Fasting Thief

The book "Raudur Riyaheen" mentions a story of a thief narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Shibli.

He says;
"Once I was travelling to Syria along with a group of other travellers when on the way we were plundered by a gang of thieves. They took all our possessions and put them in front of their gang leader. Amongst the goods were a bag of sugar and almonds, the thieves began to eat them but their leader did not join them.

I asked him why the rest of his gang was eating but he was not, he replied, "I am fasting". I asked surprisingly, "How is it that you steal from people and fast at the same time?" He replied, "A man should do something to keep the doors of reconciliation open as well".

Sometime later I saw the same gang leader in a state of "ihram" performing tawaaf [circulating around] of the blessed ka'ba. His face was resplendent with the light of worship and he had weakened himself through devotional practices. I asked surprisingly, "Are you the same man?" he answered,

"Yes, I am, and let me tell you, that very same fast is what caused my reconciliation with Allah".
