All of this explaination makes sense when you look at the world in a very black/white Tassawuff way. When you look at the world as it stands then this explaination holds little water and let me explain why.
Neither the Islamic world nor the world at large revolves around a little town in India which had a Darul-uloom sprung up in 1866. Islamic Scholarship, its teaching and learning has carried on in four corners of the world unabated and with no reliance and dependency on deobandees. Deobandees have contributed (Masha'Allah) and positvely (Alhumdolillah) but there is no dependency of Islam on Deoandees and their Tassawuff.
The world has produced great Sunni (Non-Salafi) Ulama like Imam Shatibi (Maliki), Imam Birgivi (Hanafi) who had no formal “Muslih” in terms of Tassawuff and no Tareeqa and their students and legacy has continued to this day. Even in India (contrary to what Lndon786) is claiming and then shying away we had Shaykh (Maulana) Abdul Haq Dehalwee (RA) and in recent example Darul-uloom deoband graduates like Shaykh (Maulana) Ubaidullah Sindhi (RA) who had no formal Tareeqa/Tassawuff training! These Ulama had their Tarbiyat done by their teachers and in turn trained students so you can't say that just because they weren't in a Silsila they were devoid of Tazkiyah.
In the subcontinent we have Ameerul-Mumineen Mullah Omar (HA) again with no Tareeqa, no Tassawuff and Deobandees TRIED to thrust their Khilafat (business) on him and a well known Shaykh tried to put Dastaar on him which Mullah Omar (HA) continued to reject and it fell off his head (everybody was laughing loudly) but Shaykh (HA) gave him Khilafat (despite his insistence that he doesn’t want it) so he can then come back to Pakistan and proclaim the “victory” of his Silsila.
I am Sorry but the world doesn't revolve around this understanding of Islam.
