Bismillah hir-Rahman nir-Rahim!
I, Saulat Mirza, today am before the nation, before the people, before the world, as a lesson. There are some points that I have wanted to say for a long time. No forum, no platform was available where I could say these things. The things, which I want to share, are about how all this happened.
The real objective of doing all this is that there are many people who are or want to become part of the MQM. Many of those future workers or people should look at me and learn a lesson: that how we were disposed of after being used and that is the reason for sitting here and doing all this.
The only reason is that they used us while brainwashing us in the name of rights, in the name of ideologies or in the name of nationalism in the MQM. And we were binned like a tissue paper when we were of no utility.
The case of KESC Managing Director the late Shahid Hamid in which I have been sentenced... they called us to the house of Babar Ghauri — who is perhaps now an MQM senator. We were four people. I was there; Rashid Akhtar — who is no more — was there. Two other boys of Lines Area — Athar and Asad — were with him. Babar Ghauri had arranged a talk with Altaf Hussain for us there. Altaf Hussain through Babar Ghauri had directed us that the KESC MD had to be killed. So, Babar Ghauri had advised us and after they had done that, because Altaf Hussain mostly gave directives through Babar Ghauri or other MQM leaders or sometimes directly as well to us or people like us.
There are people in the MQM on the ‘safer side’ — like some MNAs, MPAs and the Rabita Committee — about whom it is known that the people cannot torture them. There is Babar Ghauri, Muhammad Anwar is in London, there is Nadeem Nusrat, (and) Safdar Ali Baqri in Canada. Recently, Amir Khan, Amir Maqbool Siddiqui, Haider (Abbas) Rizvi are here; these people and other activists, from whom the MQM wants more advantages, should be taken from them and (if) they are arrested then it (the MQM) provides protection to them at the police station.
Our talk was held with the MQM chief Altaf Hussain on a PTCL line from London by a speaker phone at MNA Babar Ghauri’s bungalow in North Nazimabad because his phone was safe. We the people were directed by Altaf Hussain who added that if he failed to issue directives directly, these will reach us from time to time through Babar Ghauri. I want to advise the workers, people and new entrants into politics to assess whether the people whose workers they are going to become are sincere with their country, city, people and nation or they are using them only for their own luxuries, properties, buildings, and when they have their jobs done and you are no longer of their use, they disown you. Now they disown all those who are being arrested from their homes. They were used for their purposes and then are disowned. In jail, when MQM men are imprisoned, I and some other responsible members of the party were meant to accommodate them and save them from rigorous work, etc. In this regard, we the people were facilitated by the MQM under the PPP government. Our visitors freely entered the room in jail and we were provided facilities like phones, etc. There are a number of incidents. I mean I want to convey my observation to my colleagues as my last message to young people. I observed the psyche of the MQM Quaid that whoever gets popularity in the party ranks was removed by them by one means or the other. The removal means the way by which chairman Azeem Ahmad Tariq was murdered. Or the way a very good person who worked tremendously for Karachi and was getting popular Karachi city Nazim Mustafa Kamal whom you all know. Where is he now, nobody knows. He was disgraced, forced out of the party. Altaf Hussain does not tolerate anybody getting equal to him or getting popular. So long as they are able to serve him, they are used and then they are thrown out.
I felt a threat to my family if I did all these things earlier. I am doing all this now and still have fears. I was an activist of the MQM, but no one else from my family is a member of the MQM. I am making this appeal to cancel my punishment not only for myself but for all. I appeal to all those who are at the helm of Pakistan’s affairs to give me some time as there are several friends who are living abroad and have contacted me in different ways. These friends can become approvers and confess to the wrongdoings committed by them on behalf of the MQM. They can also disclose what the party did with them. Many of the people in and outside the country want to rid themselves of this system, but they have no platform to protect them. If the aim is to remove this fear, you will have to help the people come out of the party ranks. These people should be neat and clean and people should have trust in them.
I appeal to the authorities to give me enough time to atone for my sins and disclose more. I appeal to all those who are in power in Pakistan and can chalk out policies to come to me for a discussion. I want to disclose secrets to those who are powerful so that my disclosure could cause effective impact and help people learn some lessons for the cause of peace in Karachi. The paramount thing is peace in Karachi. Otherwise, people like me will keep coming forth and will be brainwashed. Things will go on like they are. I apologise to the nation and the country for my wrongdoings and appeal to all the workers to wake up, give their statements, step out of the status quo and live a free life. Doing politics is not a must but do think before doing anything. I feel pain for the criminal tag attached to me. Politicians, who always pursue their interests, change your status without taking care of your family repute and background. These politicians make your whole family into criminals.
Faizan Bangash adds from Lahore: Senior MQM leader Babar Ghauri on Wednesday termed Saulat’s allegations against him and the party as a part of a serious plot.
“I am outside the country right now for some personal matter. I am ready to face any court if asked to appear before it. Allegations levelled against me by Saulat Mirza are baseless,” said Ghauri while talking to The News.
Ghauri said he had never been directed by the party high command to pass on instructions to the workers as alleged by Saulat. The family of Saulat had also approached him and visited Nine Zero to seek help in averting his death penalty, he added.
He said it seemed that some personal grudge had also been shown by Saulat against him in his statement, adding that he would return to the country whenever asked.
