So, let me get this right. The "evil eye" is simply envy one has in his heart for another? It's not the attention of a known devil that's descended on that person?

I certainly don't brag about what goes in my life, Alhamdulillah, but at the same time I certainly don't feel the need to be restrcted about living my life to the max within the boundaries of the shariah. :D

That in itself can cause a person to inflict an evil eye, so you should always praise Allah when making such statements.

You're right, akhi. Post edited.

To clarify though, do you mean by making such a statement on an open forum because everyone can see/read it or even if I made such a statement in the walls of my own home?

A very common cause for Self Inflicted Evil-Eye.

A person should not request all and sundry to make dua for them. Like brother, i'm starting a new business or buying a house, please make dua that all goes well. If the person being requested is low in wealth and life, there is a very high chance of getting inflicted by evil-eye.

Only request pious and Allah fearing people for duas in such important matters. Inshallah one will be blessed with the pious-eye.

Request for duas ;-)

We can also bring nazar to ourselves without uttering a word to others.

Just because someone can cause the Evil Eye to happen, and they are around around when a person all of a sudden had singeing bad happen to them, it doesn't necessarily mean that this person is evil, or is doing it intentionally.

If the admiring look doesn't carry jealousy and wickedness still it can cause Nazr.

What do you reckon?

Saying one extra word like MashaAllah, SubhanAllah, Alhumdulillah and so on, its not too difficult to ask for is it!

Just say it regardless of the fear. Its the least we can do.

Correct, the reason for this is because the Praise of Allah is missing!

Wouldn't such a thing (in the confines of the walls) truly be self inflicted Evil Eye?

Just like the guys who pump iron. They stand in front of a mirror all day and give themselves the evil eye (unintentionally)

How about the more you worry about it the more you bring it on yourself!

You do your daily Adkhaar and If still it happens you deal with it otherwise you don't sweat over it.

I don't reckon.

That's not to say I'm not grateful to Allah, I am, but I don't feel like being content and expressing that in more ways than one is going to fill your heart with "nazr". Much of all this nazr talk or how it's put across is what I've heard from Hindus.

All day, yeah otherwise maybe it's self confidence? He's simply observing the results of all his hardwork in the gym.

I'd say "good on ya' lad just make sure you put in some workout on your Iman, so you can get up for Fajar".
