As-Salaamu `Alaykum,

I would like to purchase Bahishti Zewar in English. I already have a PDF version of Zam Zam Publishers' 2005 edition of the book. However, I would rather read from a physical copy and I've been looking at the one here published by Darul Ishaat, 2009 edition. Apparently, Zam Zam Publishers' copy and translation are of better quality, while Darul Ishaat's edition is actually referenced.

What are your experiences and suggestions? I am leaning towards buying the one from Darul Ishaat but I just want to make sure it will be of good quality and worth the purchase.

السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

I have the zam zam edition and I can tell you that the print quality is very nice but it doesn't give references. That might not be what some are looking for. I remember reading a copy of Bahisti Zewar at one brother's house in Canada and, although the quality wasn't as good as zam zam, the book did have references from classical Hanafi fiqh sources. It was a while ago so I don't remember the publisher. It may have been from Darul Ishat...

Call the bookstore from the Buffalo Madrasah. They may have the one you're looking for.

Alhamdulillaah, I visited the bookstore in Buffalo last August. I asked about the Zam Zam Publishers' version, but they said they don't have it. It's not on their website either. I now realize that I should have at least checked out the quality of the Darul Ishaat version.. but for some reason I didn't get to.

Do you happen to know where to purchase the Zam Zam edition online? I was considering AzharAcademy, but I'd rather buy from a place in this country because of shipping rates and times.

I think the thumbnail is a mistake on Albalagh's part. The preview picture is of Zam Zam's edition, but the product information says the publisher is Darul Ishaat and published in 2009.

I also saw the al-rashad link, but they are out of stock. Same goes for the student's version.

I believe all of these translations, including the Darul Ishaat versions, have been done by the same `Aalim: Maulana Muhammad Mahomedy.

That's actually the main reason I'd rather by Darul Ishaat's version: Zam Zam Publishers' version is either out of stock or only available if you buy from Europe.

Why do people say that Behishti Zewar/Heavenly Ornaments is not all written by Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi rahimullah and is falsely attributed to him ?

Some people say that Bahishti Zewar was not written by Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi رحمت الله عليه, but written by his student and attributed to Maulana Sahib. Does this claim have any basis?

Your e-mail dated 8 August 2013 refers.

Whilst Beheshti Zewer was not physically written by Hadhrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (rahmatullah alayhi), he supervised and checked it, hence it is attributed to him.

Does anyone else have a copy of this book by Darul Ishaat? I would greatly appreciate your experiences regarding the quality..

As-salamu alaykum,

I apologise for reviving an old thread, but I just wanted to reply to the last question:

I have had both the ZamZam and the Darul Isha'at versions. I presently only have the latter, as I gave the ZamZam away as a gift. The ZamZam print is somewhat better and the cover is much nicer (the ZamZam version I had was in leather binding with gold letters whereas the Darul Isha'at one is not... I did however find the Darul Isha'at version much more useful as it has references/footnotes mentioning sources, ahadith etc.

I haven't seen the "male version" mentioned, but from the two I've had I would definitely recommend the Darul Isha'at version (unless you just want it to look pretty on the shelf).
