Quote:
Mulla Ali al-Qari (Allah have mercy on him) states in his renowned Sharh Fiqh al-Akbar:

"The majority of the scholars are of the view that the vision of Allah Most High in sleep is possible, without any given description of modality (kayfiyya), direction (jiha) or quiddity (hay'a). It is recorded that Imam Abu Hanifa (Allah have mercy on him) said: "I saw Allah Most High 99 times whilst asleep." Then he saw Him the hundredth time also, the story of which is long and not feasible to be mentioned here. It is recorded that Imam Ahmad (Allah have mercy on him) said: "I saw Allah Most High in a dream, I said: "O Lord! How is it possible to achieve closeness to You?" He replied: "By the recitation of my speech (Qur'an)." I said: "O Lord! Recitation with understanding or (even) without understanding?" He replied: "With or without understanding." It is also narrated from the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) that he said: "I saw my Lord in my sleep." Hence, the vision of Allah in sleep is recorded from many predecessors (salaf) and it is a type of observation by the heart observed by noble people..." (Sharh Fiqh al-Akbar, P: 356-357)

I got surprised when I read this. I didn't know that one can see Allah in dreams. But how?

Brother,
Regarding such issues if the ulama have different opinions-

1st group says that a particular hadis is dhaeef

2nd group says that this hadis is sahih-

then I follow 2nd one.

Salaams respected brother.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I was asking whether it's the same narration dicussed here.

There seems to be a consensus that the narration (if we're talking about the same one) is indeed fabricated, but there are varying opinions whether it's meaning is to be taken and accepted literally, I personally don't.

Hazrat Molana Ashraf Ali Thanwi rh.a in '' Ahkamuttajalli minattailli wa tadilli #8'' said,

(Rough translation)

'' Tirmizi said, Hazrat Ibn Abbas rz.a narrated that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) saw his Rab (Allah سبحانه وتعالى ).

Abdurrazzaq said- Mu'mar narrated that Hazrat Hasan rz.a testified that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) saw his Rab (Allah سبحانه وتعالى )

Ibn Khuzaima wrote that Urwah bin zubair said that All disciples of Hazrat Ibn Abbas rz.a are agreed on it. Ka'b ahbar, Zuhri and Mu'ammar and all are agreed on it.

And Nas'ai narrated it through sahih chain from Ikrama from Hazrat Ibn Abbas rz.a and Hakim authenticated it and said- Do you wonder if Khullat was bestowed upon Hazrat Ibrahim a.s, and Kalam was bestowed upon Hazrat Musa a.s and Ruwiyat was bestowed upon Hazrat Mohammad (saw).
Tabrani in Awsat mentioned the narration of Hazrat Ibn Abbas rz.a that Hazrat Mohammad (saw) saw Allah سبحانه وتعالى twice, once with his own eyes and once with his heart''

Assalamu alaikum

Salafis often asked this, if Allah is not "up there" in direction, then why did Allah sent Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to meet Him upward in Isra' Mi'raj?

My answers (often fail, though) :
- Allah met Moses (pbuh) in the hill of Thuwa in the form of burning tree, does that mean Allah is a burning tree and that He resides in hill of Thuwa?
- When we say that Kaaba is "House of Allah" and we pray facing that direction, does it mean Allah literally resides in there?
- If Allah is indeed "up there", then where was He before He created heavens and earth when there is no such thing as spacial height? That is unless you want to say Allah co-existed pre-eternally with spacial height so He can maintained his "above-ness".

But is there any other valid shari answer for that question, i.e. why meet Allah upward in Isra' Mi'raj ..... No, I don't want to derail this thread into Kalaam debate, Wallahi. IMO it's still related to the OP question above. I'm just curious.
