I know xs11ax for over 10 years personally and I can testify that he knows the situation of Tableegh and other works much more then most people. If he is not giving his background and how he knows it (it is out of humility).

The incidents around Dewsbury Markaz are well known and there are many witnesses to it.

I personally think that the dichotomy between Tableegh and Jihad is a figment of our imagination. Honourable and beloved Sahabah (RA) of blessed Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) just saw ISLAM while we see:

  1. Tableeghi Jamaat
  2. Madaris and Darul-ulooms
  3. Tassawuff
  4. Jihad
  5. Dawah to Non-Muslims

Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) trained his Sahabah (RA) to spread the Deen of Allah (SWT) and make it supreme so they did it using all at their disposal, sometimes it was dawah and sometimes it was Qitaal and sometimes it was speech in the court of a King.

The issue is our warped understanding and “cultish mentality” where we have become Tableeghees, Sufees, Mureeds, Jihadees instead of being MUSLIMS.

If we were just MUSLIMS then we would be happy and appreciate every single person serving the Deen of Allah (SWT) which we all are in our limited (and weak) capacity.

I do believe that this Tableeghi, Sufi, Jihadi mentality needs to be CURBED! The objective is ISLAM and not whatever movement you are attached to...

I have reported this post because I am a nobody and here to be corrected but there is no need to start mocking and become condescending.

W/S Akhi,

No offense taken as none of the above applies to me, but I know where you're coming from. Jazak'Allah for your concern.

Someone learning about Islam needing a senior is nothing more than an opinion and scholarly suggestion particularly from the Deoband brothers at least that's what I've come to experience. Allah instructs us to consult those in knowledge when uncertain - that's what I do, Alhamdulillah. This is backed up by the series of questions, I've asked here and on SF. Plus, my participation on the HCY. I'm hungry to learn and I feel secure in what I believe and practice.

Everyone's leaning styles is different and personally it doesn't require attending classrooms every next day or being away from family for a length of time.

Technology is fickle thing. Used correctly, wisely and resourcefully can bring much benefit in learning as with anything technological. Much of the sources that Ulema studied a while ago is up for grabs now which, is why you don't just only see certified Ulema preaching and teaching aj khal. However, I agree that the way Tablighi Jamat goes to the brother in person is more effective as the concern that's shown is heartfelt and was pretty much the way it was done 1400 years ago and prior. Having said that delivering knowledge or a message and learning are two different devices.

السلام عليكم

When I was replying to you I wasn't comparing the actions of the Sahabah to current day Tableegh. Obviously Jihad is at a different level altogether. But its a fact that sahabah travelled to other parts to spread the Deen, through Jihad, Dawah etc, and also to teach the deen to existing Muslims.

But have in mind, unlike the Muslims of today the Sahabah were kind of 'all-rounders', they were experts at many faucets of Deen and were able to Multitask.

Today we Muslims stick to one aspect of Deen and disregard other parts of Deen, some even going to the extremes of denial. Its a sad sad state.

Bro, My advice to you:
There might be some people who exaggerates whatever field of Deen they are practicing. But that does NOT diminish the value of that act in Islam and don't dismiss the value of it.

We all need to realize the following facts:
-Tableegh is basically amr bil ma'roof nahi anil munkar (enjoining good and forbidding evil)
-Tableegh can be done outside Tabligh Jamaath, Tableegh can be done with the help of Tableegh Jamaath.
-Do not look down upon any of the methods as long its valid in shariah.
-Ofcourse TJ being around for many decades, it has a good infrastructure, so it has its advantages alhamdulillah.
-Some people might not be able to go for tableegh in TJ, do not look down upon them, Some people have their own methods.
-We will definitely come across acts of ghuloo(exaggeration), use wisdom whether or not to correct them. It is best done by the ulema or a person with leadership. If you think the person is reasonable, go ahead enlighten them. If it turns into an argument, avoid it InshaAllah.

I always kinda feel like a hypocrite while giving advice, Make dua for me that I ll be able to follow it first.

If you live in the West and have no other activities in your area then that would be a huge personal loss for you. Jamaat work is fundamental in providing good (wholesome) environment for safeguarding of Eeman. Every movement has problems including groups involved in Jihad.

If you are new to Islam then I implore you to stay close to the Tableeghi Jamaat until you have a viable suitable alternative under the guidance of Ulamah (and with their consultation) and when they advise you to use your time (and effort) effectively Tableeghi Jamaat is the best option (bar none).

This is personal advice to you and I am not a Tableeghi.

The name of the game is to protect one's Eemaan until the last breath and use every oppurtunity and method to safeguard it (if not increase it).

Aslamaualaikum respected brother,

May Allah give you the taufeeq to spread the message to way you see fit and ideal, Ameen.

I aprpeciate and understand where you're coming from, but the question initially was the majority of Sahaba (RA) did not do that. If you read the Seerah of the Prophet (SAW) and study each expedition and match them to the verses that were revealed you won't come to any conclusion that the purpose behind each was to do Tabligh. Many esteem scholars have shared this opinion whom I've consulted.

A small example when the Muslims fail to apprehend the caravan of Abu Sufyan (RA) they weren't intending to every fight a war, but Allah wanted it to happen and describes Badr as the battle of the criteria or distinguished. It was a battle of truth and falsehood. The Battle of Badr is a great example from our history that teaches victory does not depend on numbers or collecting weapons and shields - victory is from Allah, we learn about loyalty and courage, manners of the Prophet (SAW), power of du'a and fasting, unity of Muslims (Muhajireen and Ansar), Allah is Al-Lateef, not to fear your enemies etc. Where is the reference of Daw'wah and how can one derive a lesson of that in this war when it took place between a group of pricks who persecuted them for almost 14 years and first generation of Muslims. I don't see the parallels. This is why I said each expedition/battle had it's reasons and varied motives.

I know Hafiz-saab provided a narration how the Prophet (SAW) never faught against anyone until inviting them to Islam first. I'm still studying and conferring with a few scholars to whether that narration is authentic. Nevertheless, the entire Seerah carries more weight for me as it's reconstruction of the main narrations which, makes up the life of the Prophet (SAW).

Ultimately, I agree with most of your sentiments regarding Tabligh and it's effectiveness cannot be denied and one should encourages oneself to explore and experience it's virtue. I've done so and it's not for me in that regard.

May Allah guide us all.

Jazak'Allah for the tip brother, but I know what's best for me.

I safeguard my Iman by pondering over the versed of the Qu'ran and fulfilling the fundamentals. The line between right and wrong is deliberately blurred, redrawn and blurred again. Throughout time-ancient as well as modern-examples of what comes of the convolutions of mankind abound. Yet still we allow ourselves to be guided into the web of the true delusion that in going against the blueprint for mankind that Allah reiterates in the Qur'an, we can cheat the fate our own hands wring.
