Pertaining to the issue of democracy Muslims around the world have different views. Those who oppugn the democratic system of governance, generally, belong to Muslim countries that are governed by kings or dictators who keep clinging to the throne until they die and after their death their sons or close relatives capture the power-game. People have no role to elect their rulers. According to them democracy is haram and unislamic and so Muslims who reside in non Muslim countries where people themselves elect their rulers/representatives to rule the country should not participate in elections make the issue more complicated.

W-Salam,

The views of our Akabir are crystal clear on Democracy. However voting to avoid major evil is permissable e.g. if Muslims in India don't use their vote wisely then BJP will come and may cause bigger harm.

What I only wish is that our Ulamah properly educate the masses and inform them:

  1. Democracy is Haram
  2. We are voting to avoid harm and in order for us to do so we must consult (make Mushwara) and decide for the sake of Islam

Unfortunately that is not happening and opposite is true i.e. Ulamah, Mashaykh and Muslims are busy living on crumbs which parties like congress, BSP or even BJP throw at individuals.

Same is happening in UK.

brother jinn, you want me to email mufti saab and ask whether the question should be referred to ulama?? or whether brother arfatzafar was asking for rulings from ulama?? not sure quite what you want me to ask, if you read my short post theres not much in it. brother umar inshaAllah many people can give good contribution as long as they give the rulings of ulama, why would anyone want the rulings of laypeople?? thats why i asked the second question whether the brother wanted the views of ulama

imagine if muslims were to get together and cast unified votes as dictated by a shura of ulama and muslim economic/political experts. we would be able dictate policies for the betterment of our community. the political parties would be falling over themselves to get our votes. there are around 2.7 million muslims in the uk.

Root cause of Hurmat of democracy is man-made laws so we need to enhance the moderate way by bridging between theocracy and democracy in form of theo-democracy Wherein Laws should be extracted from Quran and Hadis, but the people should be given the rights to elect their rulers / representatives.
Does this concept not feasible and compatible to islamize the prevalent system of government?

Maulana Maududi (RA) already did exactly that and labelled it "Theocracy" but Deobandi think he was misguided and should be avoided. If you know of a Deobandi Scholar who has done any significant work in this regards it will be my pleasure to read him.

Disclaimer: I neither read nor approve nor have any interest in the writings of Maulana Maududi (RA) so care should be taken before turning the guns of Takfeer on me. I am merely saying that he did "try to do" exactly that.

I do believe that Maulana Maududi (RA) made genuine errors in"Khilafat-o-Mulokiyaat" and also he has a very sharp tongue against Fiqh and Tassawuff.

Dr Israr Ahmed (RA) is far more intelligent, more incisive, makes no errors and has no Fatwaas against him by any major Deobandi Akabir and the objections by Shaykh (Mufti) Yusuf Ludhyanwi (RA) are firstly not on the scale of Maulana Maududi (RA) and secondly they (Dr Israr Ahmed (RA) and Shaykh (Mufti) Yusuf Ludhyanwi (RA)) communicted with each during their lifetimes extensively over these objections while Maulana Maududi (RA) never bothered with any major Deobandi Ulamah except with Maulana Abul-Hasan Ali Nadwi (RA).

Dr Israr Ahmed (RA) is a huge improvement minus the bad stuf. He (RA) has bad stuff e.g. his views about offensive Jihad, agitation against Government and Kashmir insurgency are silly, he sounds like an India agent :P

I therefore personally DO NOT RECOMMEND Maulana Maududi (RA) because his tongue is very sharp and secondly his views are pretty outdated!
