السلام عليكم

Much saddened to learn of the plight of these Muslim girls who come to the UK to pursue higher studies and go through the worse..

Halalified YT Audio

They say at times they even go starving and eat at Masajids or gurduwaras (sikh place of worship).. that they even share rooms with boys when accommodation is not available.. and worse case.. even compromise their modesty.. all in the pursuit of happiness.

what do the UK people say.. any community helplines for such not available that provides affordable shelters.. or Muslim womens hostels and like..

( its not about why they came there at the first place but what is done to give shelter.. i learn the UK has strong Muslim neighborhoods Masha Allah.. so i would like to know if they extend such services or programs..)

wa Assalam..

I live in an area where theres high percentage of students from abroad, from what I know I've never heard of mix sharing accommodation unless it's been a personal choice, most landlords don't encourage it, and either girls or boys wanting to share accommodation always state female or male only. Students from abroad get student funding. Colleges or places of study arrange this.

I've never heard of Masajids feeding the general public....but yes I know of workers, students who go to eat and even sleep at their gurdwara, but in return they donate all their wages or finances towards their gurdwara as a gesture of goodwill.

I don't think it's appropriate to come to UK simply for education purposes then sell your self out in the process...their are no limits or boundaries, that you have to understand and put it in place yourself.

We have quite a few student only properties in the area, where rooms are not shared by same gender, maybe different rooms are let out to mixed genders but never room sharing, but I must emphasize this is done out of choice and never compulsion.

If they come illegally, or if they overstay the visa than they will have issues....but many people I know come on a student visa, they don't study but are registered for a course, they work illegally, make money and go back home, but some decide to stay on, some get away with it some don't, if they get caught overstaying they are deported.

There is a lot of dishonesty involved, which fails the whole system and spoils it for many genuine students. Allahuallam

Dr saab I have not listened to the clip. Girl students and generally UK people have it easy compared to their counterparts in other parts of the world. The cost of living is pretty high and there are issues of employment but relatively the unemployment rate is pretty low. With regards to students well their life has been made slightly difficult by the government of late but still they can get loans if worse comes to worse....although there is a small amount of interest on this loan linked to inflation. Please note I am not encouraging this just saying. All in all it is a lot easier than almost any other country that I can think of. ALLAH bless the Muslims of the world amen.

Sister Taalibah has mentioned the things that are the real issue. Dr saab a lot of people come to the UK on student visas and it is such people who behave like this. Their only aim is to make money and since opportunities in their home countries are limited they are very desperate people. ALLAH make a way out for all Muslims. Those who are genuine students, on legitmate visas etc their circumstances are not like this. With regards to masjids in the UK well they do not give accommodation. I personally believe that masjids should provide accommodation to genuine cases but once again this is a complex issue. You get some baigayrat people mostly from the indopak who come to the UK and want to save money and therefore they eat at gurdwaras. Such people have little sympathy from me. At the same time I believe masjids should provide some sort of free food service to people. This was one way that Islam spread in the indopak. So all in all dr saab life as an immigrant especially an illegal immigrant is very difficult and one should think carefully before trying such a thing....the problem with many of our people is that they think western countries are paved in gold when in fact many people back home are better off. All my relatives in India have a servant, some even have a driver etc, they attend private schools etc. Life in UK is very different. A lot of people live in debt, haram mortgages etc. At the same time there is chance for upward mobility. If one's father is a of a low paid profession if the son excels in studies he can easily become a doctor etc. Also menial, labour jobs are paid a decent wage. Professions like taxi drivers earn more than admin/clerk jobs which is not the case in other countries. So each country has it's own unique way but personally dr saab if one weighs the pros and cons the UK is probably the best country in the world for a Muslim.

Bhai London.. exactly what i was wondering.. after all who would be a better example for us than our Beloved Prophet (saw) who even fed lepers at the far end of habitation.. or his beloved sahabah رضي الله عنهم who followed him.. the famous incident of Hazrat Umar رضي الله عنه at the time of his khilafah.. feeding a woman and her children.. carrying the flour on his own back.. subhan Allah.. Humanity has to be learnt from these people..

As for the Langar's (Public kitchen/ Free Mess) at Gurdwara's..then know that it was adopted from the Muslims..

The Langar's were known since the times of Sultan ul Mashaikh Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jeelani رحمة الله عليه ( or may be even before that) many Makhlooq would come there to fill their hunger.. and since Allah سبحانه وتعالى had also blessed Hazrat رحمة الله عليه with wealth.. the food was cooked with refinement.. while Hazrat رحمة الله عليه ate the leftovers..

Later on with Sultan ul Hind Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Ajmeri رحمة الله عليه settling in India and establishing the seat of Chisti Mashaikh.. they also had Langars attached with their Khankah's where one and all would feed themselves..

The Khalifa of Hazrat Khwaja Ajmeri sahab رحمة الله عليه- Hazrat Khwaja Fareed-ud-din Ganjshakhar رحمة الله عليه was venerated by the sikhs as Baba Farid and his sayings also form a part of their holy book - The Guru Granth sahib.
so this is where their langar comes from..

Now what i wonder is.. with so many Khankah's in the U.K .. they could start this practice of feeding people..

Of late, the Khankah of Hazrat Shaikh ul Hadees sahab Nawwar Allahu Marqadahu was known for his Langar.. that it remained open for all.. at any time..
and still at the Khankah of Raipur shareef , even today, i have seen the Langar there open at all times..

Masajids could also take a step and do something.. if they cannot afford to give free food.. then start a kitchen at very low fares..

wa Assalam..

Dearest dr saab what you have written is totally correct. Feeding people is a forgotten sunnah. In Ramadan our gujrati masjids do not even provide iftaar making everybody live like zahids with dates and water with the excuse that a lot of food gets wasted. The thing is most gujratis can go home and enjoy some nice fried food, biryani etc but the problem is that there are many people without families etc so what can these people do. Mashallah the Bengali masjids have a decent feast each day and for this they even delay maghrib by like 15 mins. I am a strong believer in feeding people. Mashallah tablighis feed people well. The Ramadan khanqah at shaykh motala's place also feed people very well with the students/teachers doing great khidmat mashallah. To do it on a regular basis would be difficult financially in the UK and to be honest hardly any Muslims would come except some kafir non-muslims. Even then I would say we should do it.....ALLAH give me taufiq first.

We provide Iftaar and Suhoor for all Muslims everyday so the food gets used up. Extra is given to people during Taraweeh (fruits, drinks, dates anything can be taken from the Kitchen). I do Security during Taraweeh so give leftovers etc to the Children, Musalees anyone. Women bring cakes, cookies etc during Taraweeh and that also gets passed around.  People from other cities and students, single people and all Musalees usually open the fast at the Masjid THEN those with families leave to eat at home (some stay) ...Even homeless Non-Muslims have come sometimes and they also eat (no problems).

Generally all the men open Fast at the Masjid and pray so leftovers are used easily. Men bring whatever from their homes and share amongst everyone

The cost is £250/every day and there is a Roster and people volunteer to pay it and its massively over subscribed, sometimes 2-3 people together donate £250/day if they can't afford it alone.

On the 27th and Khatam Nights extra food is provided for all those make Aitekaaf, same duing Sha'baan etc.

This is normal for most Pakistani Masjids but everyday will be difficult; I have suggested for Jamaat brothers to do this at least every Thursday (and it used to happen)...Free Food once a week for everyone under the previous Ameer Saheb.

But in the Pakistani community whenever we hear something like this the whole community springs into action....Food, Clothing (for any Muslim) is never an issue and we have to turn back people. A Christian Church delegation came to the Masjid once and we had so MUCH food at Dhohar we didn't what to do!

An Afghan refugee (child) was moved into the city and he contacted the Masjid (his foster parents did) and within 30 minutes we had Jackets, Shoes, Food, etc etc etc at the Masjid. We had a Murder in the city yesterday and a young Sister contacted the Police and Social Services to take over the children (didn't work and won't work but shows commitment).

Children of abandoned Muslim fathers (drug addict women) and we have loads of families coming forward to help. We have divorced Pakistani women who take up Muslim children and house them (dangerous) and have to be warned.

An Arab Sister tried to help a young child and decided to go to their house to teach until she heard an earful from me and stopped! I gave her and her husband real telling off on that move so she started crying saying I wanted to help the Ummah etc etc etc.

Don't know about London but in most Pakistani communities food, accommodation, help is never an issue specially for women

Dr Saheb,

London is a strange place and I know (from my experience) that many Muslims are helpless in London so they move out to other cities...I can tell you story after story of London suffering.

Rest of UK is not like this.
