(salaam)

This topic is based upon a comment made by sister habeebah, where she heard an Islamic lecture in which the speaker gave an example of a Hollywood/Disney production.

The respected sister found this very disturbing as she rightly pointed out the effects of watching these things.

I would like to share one occasion where I was I overwhelmed with the effects and how it made me feel and think.

There is a word for this in the English language but I can't recall it at the moment. Therefore if someone can suggest a better title, that would be much appreciated. جزاك الله خيرا

The voice and vision of Shaitan.

Not long ago, about 12 years ago, I heard a song unintentionally as it was being played in the background. The song had a certain rhythm to it and the lyrics were very memorable.

What had happened was that the song would play regularly almost every day and as it was playing in the background, it sunk in. A few days later, that song was playing in my head for hours on end.

No matter what I did, the song just wouldn't stop, it was like an mp3 player stuck on repeat mode in my head.

My Salah, my Dhikr, my work, my food, my actions were all being overtaken by this song. Even my sleep.

I started grating my teeth in rhythm with the music and the lyrics, my whole body felt like it was no longer in my hands.

I couldn't get it out of my system and felt like I would be better off dead. I just didn't know what to do.

One night I sat on my bed and explained my agony to my wife and broke out in tears. I couldn't stop crying. It almost felt like I was taking out a lifetime worth of grief.

I cried and cried because this song's music wouldn't leave me alone. My wife called my mum over who saw me in such a state that she couldn't control her eyes either. There I was with my mum and my wife, crying like a baby. My mum asked me what the problem was as she had no idea, (she thought it was because of my wife, but Alhumdulillah it wasn't)

When I explained to my mum what was happening, I told her that I was going crazy, I was literally going mad. She asked me to calm down and explained to me that this was Shaitan playing with me because I was getting very serious with my Deen. I took her word for it and tried for a few days to convince myself that wasn't going mad. They would both ask me how I was feeling etc and I eventually got over it. They both suggested that I stop going anywhere near that stuff, especially that particular song , so I tried to avoid any contact with such places and manages to pull myself back up and eventually got my head cleared and felt sane again.

So I know exactly how it feels when the brain is taken control of by such feelings and emotions.

But I managed to take control and over power this fear Alhumdulillah and now I use it as my strength and help others understand certain ills that can happen knowingly and unknowingly.

Alhumdulillah, I don't even remember the song anymore.

What I've been able to do know is if I hear someone listening to songs etc, I put my mind to the lyrics and expose the shirk they contain and how these kufr words are being embedded in their hearts ready for the grave.

As I've experienced this stuff first hand, I can relate to the people who are affected by it too and for those who give examples of movies etc is because they know how others will react to it and how it'll effect their way of thinking too inshaAllah.

I've done a thread called "Focus" with the same sort of thing and how we can easily lose focus in our main objectives of life.

I think this thread will get merged with that one inshaAllah.
