if it was so affective then why divorce rates are in increase?
Because the following isn't done.
Sisters,

Islam provides holistic solutions so segregation alone is only partially the solution but what is needed is:

Segregation
Providing all the support to ensure that segregated lifestyle, education and work places work and thrive
Solid Islamic Dawah and propagation of Sunnah
Cutting off all ways to evil and enticements for gender relations
Encouraging and making it easy for people to get married early
Providing all the support to ensure that early marraiges work and succeed
Once upon a time you (Ottomans) made it happen for the Ummah. Women were edcuated and thrived without free-mixing and that was our Glory days, today both men and women are "free" and yet we fail!

Short term, in my opinion the most important thing for us to do in our times is to get people married! This alone will help avoid a lot of problems...

For example, a brother lost his job. We must encourage him to ask Allah first, he is the one who provides job; rather we ask him to learn SAP, Oracle, send job emails etc.
I think in this way we are corrupting our belief and his belief.

Oh really?

single-sex education is far better than co-ed! Both can't be same.

My dear ablam, if you have a ill heart, it doesn't matter if you go to co-edu or not, you can still affect yourself and affect others. I know many people who went to so called "religious" schools, it didn't affect them in fact it made them worst. They became a rebeller.

Generally speaking, if there is an Islamic rule, we are obliged to follow regardless of it 'working' or 'not working'
Some people go for Hajj and still engage in haraam after that. It doesn't mean we have to stop people from doing Hajj.

As for the topic, I was raised in an environment where segregation is non-existent. 'Cousins' are treated like mahram by Muslims, only 2 years back I learned cousins are non-mahram. lol. Free mixing occurs in schools and colleges. I never knew the importance of segregation in Islam until recently. I m trying to implement this in my life bi idhinillah. May Allah save us from fitnah.

If someone is a smoker and trying to quit smoking the first piece of advice is to avoid areas of smoking and people who smoke.

So if someone is trying to protect themselves from Haram relationship to please Allah (SWT) what is better:

 1. A segregated enviornment
 2. OR Co-ed?

Which is more tempting?

The reason divorce rates are soaring is simply because people no longer fear Allah and everyone has too much pride. Period.

One way or the other, in every case of divorce - either partner is withholding/trampling the rights of the other;

Someone is disloyal.
Someone is abusive.
Someone is inconsiderate and unjust.
Someone is too wrapped up in their own world to fulfill the Allah-given rights of his/her spouse.

If people fear Allah, there wouldn't be disloyalty or breech of trust whether they were in the midst of coed institutes or even at the door of a prostitute. A person who isn't loyal to ALLAH will never be loyal to his/her partner.

P.S I'm 100% for segregation. That's a non-negotiable command of Allah and is not related to my post in any way.

Freemixing IS one of the reasons for high divorces! Men and women who interact with strangers uninhibited are susceptible to the snares of Shaytaan no matter how good, loyal, pious the other partner is.

Shaytaan will always make a woman at work look more attractive then the dutiful, pious wife at home!!!

Totally agreed. But it still takes lack of fear (for Allah) to ultimately get involved in the sin.

Sister,

I agree with you to some extent but in the heart there is natural disposition to certain things and opportunity should also be avoided.

May Allah (SWT) protect us and our families (Ameen).

From my understanding you are both correct in what you are saying, it's human nature to fall into sin, we don't plan to sin but we are human although we must exert all effort we still falter, this is not an excuse for committing sin btw.

What I'm trying to say is that it is due to this human nature, that it is necessary to implement segregation as it cuts out and lessens the chances of sins committed between genders. I think everyone here is saying the same thing but from different directions.

Segregation...meaning from those things we have control over, in our homes, islamic schools, weddings etc. Whereas places of necessity which are not segregated and we have no control over, we are not accountable for...doctors, supermarkets, hospitals, etc. However even these places we are expected to behave with modesty.

This does not mean we attend unislamic weddings etc because it is not in our control.
