I agree with you on this point that shaytaan is more likely to interefere in private communication. My issue is not that it is more to do with people joking around with the opposite gender on the forum and other such things.

Then you are taking the mantle of Saudi Government! Wherever there is human interaction there will be problems.

The fundamental point which you had to concede is that public forums (when run with safeguards)  are more secure in Gender interactions then email which Sister Maria needs to be come to terms with

Now lets get to your point. When interacting with Ghair-Mehrams even in real life there will be occasions when funny things will happen and spontaneously someone will laugh or smile, this is different to deliberate flirting!

When you analyse the society of Nabi (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) there was necessary interaction between men and women (with Purdah and safeguards) but what was clearly avoided was 2 fundamental matters:

  1. "Khalwah"
  2. and "lack of Purdah".

So in my humble opinion Islamic forums (with properly approved and implemented) safeguards and granting anonymity to (Sisters) is the right way forward for Islamic interaction (not emails) and that is why I am a vocal support for Sunniforum and saddened by its decline because it gave a chance for Sisters like Maria to interact with Ulama and others (under guidance) instead of firing random emails every 30 seconds.

I hope that you get my drift.

I would rather have my daughter interact with Maulana Yasin (HA) or Shaykh (Mufti) Abu Hajira (HA) in front of all you reather then her sending emails (whether public or private) and Sister Maria's idea that Muftees have higher level of Taqwa (etc) even someone like you won't agree with!

What would you have your daughter do? Spend time on Sunniforum or watch youtube, visit other forums or fire emails?

So you have NEVER in your entire life smiled and laughed at some interaction between men and women spontaneously, it just happened?

Once again you have dodged the question. From post one (on this subject) the issue is crystal clear that what is being discussed is "appropriate Shariah compliant behavior"

What you are doing is quoting isolated examples and trying to portray it as the norm instead of what Shariah teaches us i.e. this is the standard and then violations should be treated.

The issue I have is what you describe is not the norm but isolated examples. Once you justify your (opposite) stance we can then discuss further.

Simple answer by Respected Mufti:
Quote:

Respected Sister,

Your e-mail dated 15 May 2014 refers.

If Abu Bakr is a person's name, he may use it as an e-mail address. But if it is not his name, he may not use it for this purpose. Consider the example of the Athaan. The purpose of the Athaan is to call people to Salaat. The Shariah has ordained it for this purpose. It is therefore wrong to use it in clocks to wake people from their sleep.

You may use your name as an e-mail address without the 'Al-Qibtiyyah' appellation.

Was-salaam

A.S. Desai

Earlier he said it's disrespect. I think questioner asked how it's disrespect to the Prophet (s.a.w). Respected Mufti didn't clarify that.

Azhaan clock I understand to an extent but I'd rather wake up to "Allahu Akbar" and Zhikr than to wake up by bells or beeps. Also, purpose of Azhaan is not only Salaah because Azhaan is done in the ear of a baby too. There is no Salaah for that Azhaan. Likewise, Janazah Salaah is also a Salaah but does not have Azhaan.

All the discussion over the past few weeks makes me wonder about two things:

  • Firstly, does a Mufti have to reply to every single question? Is it not sometimes better to leave a question unanswered than giving a sometimes "less accurate" (to be polite) answer?
  • Secondly, does every answer of a Mufti equal a Fatwa? I know lingustically Fatwa means answering a question, but I mean it in a more technical way (like a Islamic legal ruling).

Jazakallahu khairan, I was going to say this. There's a narration mentioned in Maulana Yunus Palanpuri's book, Scattered Pearls where the adhan is read in the ear of a person who's effected by jinn/Shayatin, also.

Earlier he said it's disrespect because he considered I was using the name as a nom de plume. But 'Maria' is my real name, 'Al-Qibtiyya' isn't. Respected Mufti says, ones real name can be used as an email address.

I posted the same Q.

Actually when I read respected Mufti's example first thought that came to my mind was, how people disrespect when they use Naat-e-Pak sallallaho alaihi wasallam as call ringtones. As they don't pay attention to the words of Naat. So I thought I got what Mufti said that any name linked to prophet sallalaho alaihi wasallam should be used for its original purpose not just an email address.

Innamal 'amaalu bin niyaat, as you said earlier.

Right.

The advice of the Maulana A S Desai to Maria appears to be a personal one offered to her without her asking, and based on his feeling that it is disrespectful to use such names for reasons he judges to be futile. Others may differ. I don't imagine that ever being a fatwa to be published in his publications. Nevertheless I can see where he is coming from with the use of the verses of the Qur'an, Azaan, sacred names, etc. for all sorts of futile reasons today.

The Azaan recited in the newborn child's ear is actually prescribed by the Shariah and the Azaan used for Ruqya is definitely not futile. Regarding Azaan being used for Alarms, my personal instinct is the same as Mufti Yasin's i.e. that it is not for a futile reason but I can see why someone like Maulana A S Desai may feel differently since it is perfectly permissible in the Shariah to use bell-like noises as Alarms and notifying tools.
