I certainly hope Hazrat Dr76 sees this and responds insha Allah.

I initially found this: shibliacademy.org/founders/Hamiduddin_Farahi and that led me to search further hence the questions.

The Shibli Academy was founded by Farahi and Sayyid Sulayman Nadwi - any more light on the academy?

The takfir and ruju' of the takfir of Farahi and Shibli is discussed in great detail by Maulana Abdul Majid Daryabadi in his unique book nuqush want tasurat Hakim ul Ummat

Read from pages 417 through 435.

There is a thread on Sunniforum which discusses the takfir and rujoo' of Allamah Shibli Nomani.

Search for 'Allamah Shibli Nomani site:sunniforum' goto page 3 first post.

The issue of takfir was a publication of Hamiduddin Farahi's personal notes which where unedited and his over zealous students published them posthumously. Maulana Abdul Majid Drayabadi being the former close associate for decades relentlessly clarified the issues to Hakim ul Thanvi and the issue was resolved.

But the problem actually began with the over zealous followers and students of Hamiduddin Farahi who have some sort of special attachment to the unedited personal notes.

A point of caution: The ruju' of takfir in no way means that all the opinions of Allamah Shibli Nomani and Hamiduddin Farahi are sound and correct and can be followed. The odd opinions of Allamah Shibli Nomani have been answered satisfactorily by Maulana Idrees Kandehlwi rahmatullahi alayhi in his 3 Vols of 'Seerat e Mustafa' and by other Ulema in their respective works.

It is recommended for every one interested to read through the pages mentioned earlier. Hakim ul Ummat rahmatullahi alayhi explains the role and duties of a Mufti and expains the basis of his fatwa and ruju'
