How is the environment of Turkey for a foreigner? Is language a big deal? I'm recently planning to apply for PhD.

Brother, Istanbul is a good city for foreigners. Life is very expensive their though. For the language, i would recommend that you learn Turkish. Because Turks dont know much English. You have less chance of speaking to someone who knows English and a Turk. Turkish is a hard language but im sure you wouldnt have much problem with it. If you have futher questions, i will be happy to answer you.

Istanbul Teknik University
Marmara University
Galatasaray University
Koc University
Sabanci University
These are the best engineer universities in Istanbul

For medicine: Cerahpasa Tip University

Have you thought of appyling to universities in Ankara and Eskisehir??

Is the condition (attire of students) of these universities exactly same as shown in site photos? I mean, is there any difference with those of the universities of other European countries?

Yes, they are very secular and European in dress - mostly the way you would have seen them. Not just on campus but in various towns and cities across the country. There is change but it is slow. There are areas where you will feel much more comfortable and at ease but regardless, you will encounter people as you've seen.

In short, brother, it certainly would be a true mujahadah for anyone attending a Turkish university with sunnah clothing and a full beard. May Allah Ta'aala make it easy and grant strength for those to do, and may He grant them success in both worlds. Ameen.

Now i understand. Yes like dear sister said, universities in Turkey are very secular. Due to recent events in Turkey, universities become more secular then ever. There universities in Istanbul who have Islamic views (e.g Yildiz Teknik uni. Istanbul Teknik and other special universities ) but what i mean by views as in they respect your view( e,g praying fasting keeping beard) but i cant say anyhing about the clothing. But mostly Unis in Turkey are secular.

Brother If you are planing to go to turkey and learn turkish language also info about some unis and istanbul, i can make a different thread so, it will be easier to talk from there.
