Having hatred towards kufr is a good thing.
Its permissible to have outward friendship with the kuffar who are not in active war with us.
But intimate friendship is reserved only for Muslims.
For the fatwa see: www.sunniforum.com/forum/showthread.php?104108-Loving-amp...

Allah Ta'ala has made it haraam to kill even a kafir without any reason. Just imagine if Umar ibn Al Farooqرضي الله عنه was killed before he accepted Islam! Even after the conquest of Makkah, Rasoolullah (saw) did NOT order the killing of the kafirs. We do not know who will accept Islam and become a Muslim. Even during offensive J!h@d the kuffar were given two choices, Islam or Jizyah.

As for learning from the kuffar, you very well know that Rasoolullah (saw) used the mushrik prisoners of war to teach illiterate Muslim. It is ok to learn from them, but we should not go overboard and think them as Superior. Thats all.
