With the holiday season in full flow and traffic increasing, motorists are being cautioned by authorities about the potential dangers that await those on the road. Over the years one of the major contributing factors to road accidents and collisions has been reckless and inconsiderate driving.

As Muslims it is our duty to ensure that we do not become the cause of loss of life and injury to others. Being courteous and considerate forms an important part of a Muslim's character. A Muslim is obliged to shun any activity that is futile, non beneficial and potentially harmful.

Inconsiderate behaviour in any circumstance is unacceptable, moreso when it involves the lives of other individuals. Being reckless on the road poses a threat to our family members and other passengers in the vehicle. Furthermore, other road users are also at risk due to our negligence. The Quran and Hadith stress the importance of good character. Driving safely and courteously has great merit. It will reflect the true beauty and character that a Muslim is expected to portray.

We have seen too many lives lost in traffic collisions. Every year statistics tell us of thousands of lives lost. Don't make yourself, your family and someone else's family another statistic.

Yep correct and women need to stop looking at each other and talking whilst driving. Focus on the road rather than your mates facial reactions.

People need to slow down in rainy weather rather than putting their foot down more, stopping distance increases by x2 in the rain and in the snow it's x10, so yeah slow down. To those who can't drive properly or keep up with traffic, please stop hogging the third lane on the motorway, nothing is more annoying than someone dong 55/60 in the third lane and breaking after every 5 seconds when the road ahead is clear.

Also with the winter season here, please make sure your car is prepared for the winter weather.

Using your phone for calls is bad enough whilst driving, but texting, emails, whatsapp, Facebook, twitter, using these is just taking stupidity to a new level. Use a handsfree if you wish to talk whilst driving but keep them eyes on the road at all times. The texts, email, your Facebook status can wait.

However I personally have problems with road rage at times, I get annoyed with idiotic drivers, something I need to work on Insh'Ala take a back seat and chill. Be safe out there guys as driving standards have fallen severely and a lot of drivers out there who seem like they bought their licenses from eBay.
