Deeneislam is a site by Darul-uloom Karachi (RA) and under the guidence of Shaykh (Allamah) Mufti Taqi Usmani (HA). There are two editorials today on this site clearly questioning Ulamah and particularly Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA) by name and in person.

The first editorial questions both Shaykh (Maulana) Fazlur-Rahman (HA) and Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA) as both are sons of Deonandi Ulamah who disgareed with Darul-uloom Deoband and chose to favour Pakistam. The editorial asks these Ulamah particularly Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA) to clarify the following points publicly:

  1. The armed Shariah campaign in Pakistan are Deobandees (just like Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA). We have heard their ambigous points on Lal Masjid but what is the real position of Ulamah of Deoband on this point of armed struggle and insurrection against the state and the Government? Is this (armed) rebellion against the state permissable or not?
  2. What is the opinion of Ulamah of Deoband on Takfeer of Muslim groups? Is it permissable for an individual or an organisation to start a movement of Takfeer?
  3. Taliban have clearly made their point of view clear and addressed Ulamah? What is the response of Shaykh (Mufti) Taqi Usmani (HA)? Does he agree or disgaree?
  4. What is his opinion on the present (Islamic) Government and its foregin policy? What should be the responsibility of a citizen of such a state?
  5. What is the responsibility Ulamah and people of religion when it comes to forbidding (state related) evil?
  6. Those who disagree with these opinions, what is the view of Deobandees regarding them? Are Deobandees willing to absolve themselves and stand clear of these groups?

The second editorial says that people have been asking, begging, beseeching Ulamah to give a clear and unambigous answer on the issue of Taliban (Pakistan) and other matters to no avail. Ulamah of the past used to lead a simple life while today's Ulamah globetrott around the world collecting donations for Darul-ulooms. Breakfast in Europe and lunch in the middle-east while having permanent bookings in expensive Hotels in Makkah is the way of these Ulamah so its unreasonable to ask them for a response.

Taliban have clearly outlined their position in detail because their Ulamah still live like them in the mountains and mud-huts; thus have nothing to fear! Leadership of (Deoband) is shifting from Ulamah living lavish lifestyles to those who survive on stale bread and sleep on hard floors and these are the (Ulamah) who have the guts and courage to say what they believe in!
