Ironically Daniel Haqiqatjou is also agreeing with Sh Yasir. I would go with DH over Mufti Abu Layth :).

"Did Islam spread by the sword? YES! But also no.

Islam spread across the globe through many means including trade, diplomacy, proselytization, and, yes, military conquest or what’s known as jihad at-talab or offensive jihad. The largest expansion of the Islamic empire happened within a hundred years of the Prophet Muhammad’s life peace be upon him as well as the rule of the righteous Caliphs.

But unlike the military conquest of other religions like Hinduism and Christianity, the Islamic conquerors did not force the conquered people to convert to Islam. Rather they were known as ahl al-dhimma or dhimmis, which means the protected people. They did not have to convert at the point of a sword....."

I did not argue any such thing....!
This is an issue of polemical attacks on Islam. That have been going on for centuries and the internet has given them a far bigger platform.

Dr Qadhi has no experience in polemics. There is no need to give long winded academic explanations.

As Maulana Maudoodi stated nearly a century ago and I paraphrase..
" They painted such a dark picture of us that we failed to look at the faces of the painter of this picture and assumed the role of apolgists.."

Shaykh Ahmed Deedat put it more succinctly he called for the turning of the tables. You throw the accusations right back in their face using their own books and their own history.

When somebody throws the accusation that Islam was spread by the sword. All you need to state is Muslims ruled India for a thousand years yet the non-muslim population is 80% to emphasise the point you use quotes fron British and western historians who have called this accusation of the "Sword If Islam" a myth. Then throw the accusation back in the face of the Islam-Haters and ask them what happened to the pagan religions and peoples of Europe. What about the "Sword of Christianity."

First rule of polemics is you never give any credence to any accusation. If you take that position and state "Yes I agree your argument has some credence to it.." They will use your statement against you.

To give an example Muhammad Hijab in a debate with a Christian last year. He did not try to defend anything. Went straight on the attack and stated " That infact it was Christianity that was spread by the sword.. " As for the Muslim conquest of the Roman empire he stated " I make no apologies for it but infact I am proud of it muslims were outnumbered and defeated a tyrannical superpower of its time.."

That totally shut that argument down.

Polemics is a chess match... The Islamaphobes love Qadhi because he gives long winded academic responses that they can use in their favour. He should stay in his lane and focus on inspiring the youth. Polemics is not his field.

Ok I see where you are coming from. I don't know the context of the lecture Yasir Qadhi gave entitled "Was Islam spread by the sword". If it was in polemical setting or for the purpose of apologetics then yes I would agree with you. If it was in a masjid or to educate a Muslim audience, then I don't see why have to frame the discussion as you have suggested in your post. I am interested in learning the full truth. But yes since everything is recorded nowadays, it doesn't matter who your intended audience was, any and everyone can listen and make what they want of the lecture. Just like any and everyone can come and quote any member of this forum in many threads.

If someone throws the accusation that Islam was spread by the sword I would be upfront with them and give them a response separating people being forced to convert to Islam vs Islamic empires expanding via milatary conquests. Whatever answer one gives, all the information is available to anyone at the click of a button.

I understand the "Deobandi" hatred for Yasir Qadhi but stay away from Madkhali jackasses who disown their own mother or in "Deobandi" terminology Extreme Salafees, the Ummah is in no need of fanatics just because they tweet in favour of our opinion.

These "jackasses" need to locked up in a mental asylum...As I said they will disown their own mother so no big deal about them disowning and warning about Yasir Qadhi

I know Shaykh Assim Alhakeem criticizes and warns against almost all scholars but still I respect him as a scholar and disagree with the words you have used.

He has some ridiculous answers. I heard people say he himself isn't very qualified. I have never checked.

Shaikh Assim al Hakeem has

High Diploma in Islamic studies -Umm Al Qura University Makkah, 1998

and

BA in Linguistics – King Abdul Aziz University Jeddah, 1987

High diploma doesn't sound equivalent to Bachelors let alone Masters.

and the Fadhaile-Amaal is fabricated. You shouldn't be listening to him.
