This is also my experience.

I would also like to know what the tradtional scholarly explanation to the preservation of the Quran.

A lot of lay muslims who think that there is only one Quran and have no idea about the 7 Ahruf or 10 Qirat (in which the letters/spellings vary, as well as the meaning).

Recent times the apologetic Christians have latched onto this and I can assure you when a lot of lay muslims hear about this, they are going to have a crisis of faith, so why are we not taught this or like usual are we going to deal with these problems when its 20 years too late.

This link doesn't explain how the 7 or 10 Qirats (modes of recitation) came into being.

I think a lot of people are aware of the 10 Qiraat and know of the concept of reciting the Quran in different dialects. I have now discovered that there is so much more to the topic than just that,

(salam)

Do we have any authentic literature or bayan series that discusses this in detail?

My local Masjids Qari saab (Imam -
Qari Shoaib Nurgat ) has learnt all 7 dialects with a Sanad (Chain of recitation) all the way back to the Prophet (saw).

He said in last years Taraweeh that he had spent a long time learning the different dialects during his studies.

Each dialect goes back to the Prophet (saw) exactly the same way it was taught to Him (saw) by Gibreel (as)

(he mentioned this in Taraweeh last year because someone in the mosque was moaning that the Imam was praying incorrectly. It upset him to know that people were unaware of the different methods of reciting and therefore gave everyone a few examples and prayed the Witr Salah everyday in different ways for a few days)

I think you meant to say the Imam learnt 7 of the Qiraat/modes of recitation (unless by dialect you meant Qiraat)

Ustadh Abdur Rahman Hassan
Did a compelling overview of everything concerning preservation of Quran in a podcast. With Muhammad Hijab. I was only planning to watch 10 minutes but it was quite fascinating and ended up watching the full video.

He also started a lecture course last week to expand on this topic.

4 episodes are up on youtube.

Considering the amount of traction this subject has received I suspect others will also be posting video lectures in the coming weeks.

The Barelwi Scholar Sh Asrar Rashid.

Has posted a couple of videos in response to Sh Yasir Qadhi.

These are done in a less complex manner and made easy for layman to understand. This topic.

As for the 7 Ahruf or Dialects.

The Renowned Saudi Shaykh Adnan Abdul Qadir did a lecture on that some years ago.

Sometimes what is out there only shows one side of the arguments or set out to prove a particular view, therefore I don't have anything to recommend at the moment. I see Abdur Rahman ibn Awf has posted some links.

Bismillah.

Given the topic of the thread about
Sh Yasir Qadhi.

The question is if Sh Yasir Qadhi had a crisis of faith and confusion and still seems unable to grasp this topic. What hope is for the laymen and teenage groupies who follow him.

The second question is since Sh Yasir Qadhi was confused and in a state of crisis. Should he not have travelled to the muslim world searched out and sat in the company of Scholars who specialise in this field to quell his confusion ? Why jump back straight on the celebrity Speaking circuit bandwagon.?

Finally there was a series of videos on experiences of studying at Medina University by former students on youtube some well known personalities some not so.

Listening to those lectures Medina University is not structured like a traditional Dar Ul Uloom. It is organised along the lines of a modern academic institution.

Once the students do their general Alim course. They are then given the option of choosing one of the specialist Colleges in order to complete their studies and get their degree. There are several the college of fiqh studies, the college of Hadith studies and the College of Arabic language and Tafseer.

For some reason all the students from the west would choose the college of Fiqh as did Sh Yasir Qadhi I believe. In those talks I only came across one former student who chose to be different and went to the college of Hadith studies and not Fiqh.

The point is by his own admission he only did a cursory study on this topic of preservation of Quran during his studies. Was left confounded when presented by the arguments of the Orientalists. Instead of admitting his own limitations in understanding this topic. He instead claims all the Scholars of the past were confounded as well and unable to explain this topic satisfactorily.

Yasir Qadhi made it quite clear in his interview with Mohammed Hijab that it wasn't a crisis of faith. People are misinterpreting him. He said it was a crisis of his understanding of knowledge and a crisis of what his teachers taught him. And he also made clear that alhamdulillah in his entire life he has never doubted that the Qur'an is divine.
