Asslamo Allaikum All,

I don't listen to it and I don't know why I did on the 07th of November 2013 at 19:00 UK time (click to convert)

They were broadcasting a SISTERS ONLY ISOC (UK) meeting. For those outside of UK, ISOC is a student body in many British universities.

This (sounded like) a Sisters only event and Sisters were laughing, joking, giggling and talking about all sorts of stuff like fashion, cars, men, convertible cars, fashion models and also Islam. It was a Sisters only talk and perfectly fine for them!

  1. WHY in the world did Cii transmit this?
  2. There is a stupid car commercial where the husband/wife are thinking about a new Honda and calling each Honey and Darling! Is that normal in South Africa to air this time as Islamic?
  3. There are speakers on Cii which are not Deobandi so is Cii a Deobandi Radio channel?
  4. Why do they have so many conspiracy theorsists on Cii? Do people listen to this stuff and take it seriously?

Assalaamu 'Alaykum

Let me answer some of the questions here but I would like to say that I am not some kind of a spokesman for Cii.

There are many un-Islamic things being broadcasted on Cii and the other local station - Radio Islam based in Lenasia, JHB and Al-Ansaar based in Durban. Hence, people like Mawlana AS Desai, Mawlana Abdul Hamid Ishaq, and many other senior 'ulama of the country were and continue to be vehemently opposed to "Islamic" radio stations at the very outset. This is another discussion on its own and a lot can be said.

When Cii was established over a decade ago, Mufti Abdul Kader Hoosen was the Ameer of the Shura. After a few years he resigned from this post due to many un-Islamic issues taking place at Cii. He is now simply another employee at Cii and has often attacked the many un-Islamic pratices on his live shows. He is not apologetic and speaks the Haqq even though being on the payroll of Cii.

Regarding the questions:

1. I have no idea.
2. It has become normal since the "Islamic" radio boom and now with the offical "Islamic" television music is also being "Halalized".
3. Cii is not Deobandi although there are quite a few Deobandi 'ulama who are given a platform.
4. People like conspiracy theories. Maybe to get more listnerers? I don't know.

Jazak Allah khayr

That doesn't sound toooooo bad. Worse things happened on these 'islaamic' AKA shaytaanic radio stations. The sad part is that everyone, or at least 90% of (muslim) SA'cans, are addicted to either radio islaam or channel islaam in spite of all the blatantly unislaamic programs/conduct etc.

I might be wrong but it sounded like a "SISTERS ONLY" event in UK. For "SISTERS ONLY" there was nothing wrong with it because the Sister speaking was making a point about Sunnah and not following fashion and Hollywood stars etc and there was nothing inappropriate about it!

Sisters were laughing and giggling within a "SISTERS ONLY" event!

Why would a South African Radio station broadcast a "SISTERS ONLY" event for the whole world to listen to?

Can you write out an email (as you are aware of the program, time, date, etc.) to the Station Manager - Shamsheer Khan - and include myself as well as Mufti AK Hoosen.

Asslamo Allaikum dear respected and beloved Brother Shamsheer Khan,

I reside in the UK and fairly busy and not an avid listener of Radio but I went on a jog and I switched on Cii last week and what I found to my utter amazement is what sounded like a "Sisters ONLY" event being broadcast by Cii. This occured on 07th of November 2013 at 19:00 UK time (click to convert)

It was an ISOC event by a Sister whose name I missed. There were Sisters laughing, giggling and joking and in UK this was a Sisters event so the one talking was making a point and only women were laughing and giggling so as such in that setting there was nothing wrong as such.

Why did Cii chose to broadcast a "Sisters only" event to the whole world? May I know your rationale behind this? We (in UK) know ISOC as a student body and Sisters events we (men) don't attend and obviously don't listen in even if its recorded and available on the web as it is clearly outlined and advertised as "Sisters event"! There is a chance that I have misunderstood and it was a mixed-event and in that case why did an Islamic Radio station chose to broadcast an event with laughing, giggling women for men to listen to?

Secondly, during the program there were advertisements about "Honda (or Toyota)" and a husband/wife were addressing each other as Darling, Honey etc? Is this normal amongst South African Muslims to broadcast such things in public in daytime? I have not seen this in UK so maybe its South African culture to refer to wife as Darling and for her to call husband as Honey in public?

Thirdly, you have a series of speakers from the west which are not regarded as Ulamah, are controversial and have public scandals and embezzlement cases against them. What is your criteria for choosing who gets to speak on your Radio station?

Fourthly, I have also heard some conspiracy theorists, doctors and scientists with dubious scientific theories, Pakistan Army backed speakers talking about Kashmir on Cii and again I am baffled as to how you select your speakers and the research which goes into it?  I clearly remember tuning into your Kashmir program and listening to the host. The speaker is well known to be backed by Pakistan Army and he doesn't even hide it (himself) in the Pakistani media, a simple google search of his name would have revealed his background to anyone. I must ask for your forgiveness as I have forgotten his name because I didn't pay much attention and had no way to contact you at the time.

May I know your feedback mechanism and the method so the authenticity and veracity of your shows can be technically and Academically challenged? Do South African Muslims challenge the Islamic, scientific and Academic authenticity of your programs? Is it publicized anywhere? Even BBC have a feedback program and they readily publicly correct and retract opinions which are successfully challenged.

Jazakallahu Khayran

I don't think it was live but lets assume that it was live and also attended by men. Why did an Islamic Radio station broadcast it?

Sisters have a right to joke and laugh amongst each other but I don't have the right to be there or listen to it, do I? That's what I am questioning.

I am sure that women laugh and joke and talk about XYZ amongst each other and that's fine but why was I (a man) subjected to this?

Of course, thats what we do all the time.... No problems there.

What i'm trying to say is: If the sisters KNEW that their conversations/event is going to be broadcasted, then they're to be blamed equally.

I don't know about this program but I can assure that in UK and America Sisters usually neither advertise nor publicize nor promote their events to men in UK if its a "Sisters only" event.

And if its a Sisters only event men won't listen to it either even if its available; its basic decency.

Exactly. So you believe the event was covered without the organizers/participants knowing? well, if thats the case - cii better better better answer coz its totally wrong, in fact, impudent to broadcast a 'sisters only' function while they (the sisters) are unaware.

Whats the purpose of a 'sisters only' event when its being broadcasted to the whole world? even if guys have the ''basic decency'' quality and won't intentionally listen, how many (just like you) will innocently switch on the radio and get a full picture of the occasion....?

Sister,

In all scenarios this is Cii fault and please tell me how you can blame the Sisters for this broadcast?

Scenario 1:

Sisters indeed recorded and made the program public STILL they DID NOT ask Cii to broadcast it? Didn't they think about what was being broadcast?

Scenario 2:

It was a Sisters only event then the fault of Cii is even more severe

Summary:

IF the Sisters transgressed Shariah they are at fault in UK but Cii is supposedly an Islamic Radio station how did they come up with the decision to broadcast this?

If you or other Sisters do something in SF's private (Sisters) section then you are sinning but I am sinning doubly by publicising the issue, isn't it?
