The Dars-i-Nizami is the core syllabus followed by Darul Uloom Deoband and the majority of Islamic institutions from where Ulama graduate, especially those connected to the founding Madaaris of the Indian subcontinent. This syllabus has progressed over the centuries and it is often not understood how it has come to be in its present form. For this reason Mufti has summarized this in the following table. May Allah Jalla Jalaalahu increase him in ilm, understanding and grant him long life and good health.

although this is an interesting analysis it has to be said that the current syllabus needs a massive overhaul. What can be said when a senior shaykh and mufti graduate of binori town karachi tells me that in his dawre hadeeth class (after 8-10 years of full time studying) only 2 students out of (you can ask binori town how many people study in dawre hadeeth) the whole class could read marifus sunnan of hazrat binori rh in arabic and the majority sold it to buy urdu translations. If one looks at the syllabus at shaykh dido ash shinqiti's place (somebody can post the link?) it is far more superior and some great educationalists like shaykh hatem al sharif have a very unique vision of studying which should be implemented. His recommended syllabus for studying hadeeth should be implemented or at least seriously taken into consideration. With regards to most of the great scholars who went through the syllabus then people forget a few things about them. Most of them were exceptional to begin with and would have excelled in almost any other system. The other issue is that many of these great alims were actually taught by their family members etc and thus have some advantage over others. With regards to the fact that hadeeth is the strong point of the deobandi school then once again this is debatable. For a proper grounding in hadeeth a 4-6 year intense course would be needed. We need to have more such courses (so far I can't think of one that exists???).....with regards to tarbiyah then yes we can agree that tarbiyah in deobandi circles and emphasis on sunnah is probably the greatest thing about our institutes and this is not limited to the khwaas (selected few) but also filters to the awaam (general masses)...ALLAH grant more barakah. More work needs to be done on Islamic education and darse e nizami needs to be changed for sure.

brother userinvalids the drs won't come. With regards to the sister's comment is your jamia the branch of jamia aisha sidiqah karachi? If so then yes I have met their founder Dr Amjad in karachi markaz but this once again proves my point. Dr Amjad and his system is very different to traditional darse e nizami. Please correct me if I'm wrong but the medium used is arabic? The first few years is arabic alone. Also their system is different to wifaq ul madaris. This is what I mean that we need to change the current system and Dr Amjad's jamia aisha sidiqah/ibn abbas is Mashallah a step in the right direction. We need more such institutes with the medium of teaching being Arabic and more of a hadeeth focus as well as a specialization. The problem you have is let us say dr amjad's madrasah is like 9 years. So if one starts at the age of 16 one will graduate by the age of 25. Ideally one should then be encouraged to specialize in something for 4 years but the problem is that the first 9 years makes this very difficult and people don't have the support in place to specialize if you get what I mean

Yes my Madrassa is the Lahore branch and yes the syllabus is different from wifaq ul Madaris it was 6 years for talibat which is now being reduce to 5 years in Lahore because of less ilmi zauq as far as females are concerned Dr amjad loves arabic and believes that this language can increase a persons ability to understand and express Quran I wish we could have arabic as second language in Pakistan if not first but for that some changes are required in the syllabus and system plus we need a lot of arabic teachers

Important clarification and synopsis from Darul-uloom Deoband about the Islamic syallabus for Indian Muslims:

...The syllabus of Darul-uloom is called "Dars-e-Nizami" which is correct to a certain extent. However, this puts doubts and misgivings in the minds of people that this syllabus is from the 12th century. If someone was to compare the syllabus today to what was proposed (originally) then he would be reluctant to call it "Dars-e-Nizami" because there have been a number of (fundamental) changes in the Islamic as well as Secular subjects. The amendments to the syllabus have continued and will continue according to the needs of the times, and these are Islamic as well as social and communal needs of the people. The industrial workshop (metallurgy), computer and English departments at Darul-uloom Deoband are a part of this continuous process of improving and adapting the curriculum to changing needs and times...

MashaAllah, some interesting comments. There are some stories from Aap Beeti stating quite the same. Like for example Shaykh Zakariyya went to a madrasa where each student had at beforehand practiced on reading their hadith. However one student went to the bathroom and so the class could not read further.

There is also his own story when he was tested by a scholar in reading a particular quote from al-hidaya. The shaykh said let me read the first lines so I can see the context. The scholar who tested him was convinced and remarked that these students don't even understand such stuff.

I am wondering though whether the claim that only 2/3 students from a top madrasa could read Arabic is true or is there mubaalagha?

bro ansari I reckon it's more true of indopak darulooms rather than many western darulooms. Regardless work needs to be done. The current system is failing for sure.
