Sorry I did go off the subject and started bringing Saudi Government into it, I apologise.
People have really abused and written a lot of bad things about Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahab (RA) and many Ulamah have done this.
What Shaykh (Maulana) Manzoor Naumani (RA) and our other Akabir have done is tried to redress the balance and point out that many of these “reported incidents” are nothing but fabrications and slanders and that the state of current Saudia is good (Islamically), they constantly mention people making Salah and generally following Sunnah and these outward signs are good (Masha’Allah). What our Akabir have not addressed are the refutations by his own brother Shaykh Sulemain Ibn Abdul-Wahab (RA) and Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahab (RA)’s refutation of entire town (I can’t recall the exact town name but I believe Huraymila). There is no doubt that he was extreme is his views of Takfeer and condemnation, hence in my opinion the Fatwa of Shaykh (Mufti) Rasheed Ahmed Gangohi (RA) is spot on.
The natural progression of Shaykh Mohammad Ibn Abdul-Wahab (RA) is what we say today and the Saudi regime used his support (initially) and today some of the Scholars are in their pockets.
Shaykh Mohammad Ibn Abdul-Wahab (RA) provided legitimacy to the Al-Saud family and the relationship continues to this day. Maybe he (RA) wouldn’t have approved of what the regime does today but the two religious and governmental controls in Saudia are intertwined.
Our Akabir have looked at the religious aspect but either not realised the (Governmental) affiliation or deliberately sidestepped it.
Saudi regime uses “Scholars” and the “Holy places of Islam” to great political effect.
- Did Shaykh Mohammad Ibn Abdul-Wahab (RA) realise the monster he was creating? I don't know
- Did our Akabir realise the monster they were backing in 1926? Partially they did but refusing to make Bayah and accept Al-Saud (the robber) as the Khaleefa
In my mind Deobndees should trust their Academia and chart a way separate to both Ahl-e-Hadeeth and Barelwees and clearly outline their position.
