Many parents will have been offered the new influenza vaccination for children they may have between the ages of 2 - 16yrs old.

It is a single dose vaccine, itself called Fluenz. It is administered via the childs nose from a syringe without a needle and therefore does not involve an injection.

The vaccine contains porcine (pork) gelatine. Public Health England (PHE) has published advice on its website from representatives of the Jewish and Global Muslim Communities regarding this and other animal-derived ingredients in medicinal products such as vaccines.

Please be aware of this vaccine, as the department of health are stating that this porcine gelatine in use has been certified as acceptable by multi-faith groups and is considered halal and there is no religious reason not to receive the vaccination.

Here is the link to Public Health England's website:
www.gov.uk/government/news/vaccines-and-gelatine-phe-resp...

Unfortunately for some Muslim parents, this information has come too late as they gave consent and had their children immunised without realising the contents of the vaccination. Please remember this vaccination CANNOT be administered without parental consent, so please be careful and check what you sign.

Aapa,

I found the following section on BBC much more disturbing then the pork issue.

...Vaccines have a lot of products in them, in very small quantities - but I think we wouldn't normally expect to list those - otherwise it becomes a very long and complicated document," he said...

What are we injecting people with?

alhamdolillah, all 3 of my kids have not been vaccinated.

there is nothing wrong with using halal medicine, but why use haram medicine when our faith should be in allah and not the doctors who scare us into using their haram medicine.

salaamualaikum wrwb

alhemdulillah I never vaccinated any of my kids when I first learned that all vaccines were haram 20 years ago. there's a very important book on vaccines written by an American woman. the book is called ' the poisoned needle". the whole book is about vaccines and statistics on people who died or who were severely harmed by vaccines. it's basically a fact book on vaccines.it will change ones view on vaccines forever after reading it inshallah. I recommend every muslim to read it if possible, especially those who believe in the myth of vaccines being a good thing for the masses.

Asslamoalikum,

This answer by Mufti Desai may be helpful. Please search vaccine on askimam website and see answer for question on 10/12/2012. (sorry unable to post link as guest).

Regarding safety of vaccine; there is plenty of evidence from many many studies that vaccines are safe to use. Ofcourse as muslims our trust is in Allah and in Allah alone. Nothing cures except with the will of Allah. However we need to try to take precautions if we can ('tie our camels'). With the will of Allah vaccines can prevent many serious life threatening/disabling diseases. Allah (SWT) has through His mercy granted us the knowldge about vaccine and so we should use it. Homeopathic treatments are of no use against meningitis/polio/tetanus/diptheria/rubella/mumps etc.

May Allah guide us all to the true path. Ameen.

Fatwa

Question: Assalamualakum Respected Mufti Is it permissible to give vaccines to children? These vaccines do contain haraam ingredients.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, one may take medication containing haram ingredients only if it is recommended by a trustworthy Muslim doctor and he assures that there are no halāl alternatives.[1] The same ruling applies for vaccines containing haram ingredients.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best

Abdul Azīm bin Abdur Rahman,
Student Darul Iftaa
U.S.A.

Checked and Approved by,
Mufti Ebrahim Desai.

salaam

taking haram medicine for illnesses already contracted is one thing, but vaccines aim to prevent illnesses which a person may or may not contract. many non vaccinated people live out their whole lives without contracting illnesses that vaccines aim to prevent. where is our iman and taqwa when we take haram medicine for something which has not happened and may not happen?

Asslamoalikum,

With all due respect brother but the above argument is just not valid. For example when a patient has raised blood pressure the doctor will prescribe tablets to reduce his/her BP if his/her risk of future cardiac event (i.e. heart attack) is greater than 20 % in next ten years. The same goes for tablets to reduce cholesterol. Often these conditions do not have any symptoms and have no harmful effect in the near future. So should all Muslims stop taking BP and cholesterol tablets and trust Allah that if they are going to have a heart attack or kidney failure or damage to eyesight due to BP/Cholesterol then it was their destiny? What about epileptics? Once a patient has the second fit most doctors will start tablets to reduce his chances of having another fit even though no one can say for sure the he/she will have another fit. Should Muslims stop taking these tablets since we should trust in Allah?

We should look at vaccinations in the same light and ask scholars for advice before making things haram that are not. One of the reason why childhood mortality is so low in this country is partly due to vaccines. Please do not get me wrong. Of course the vaccines have no power themselves. Nothing happens without the will of Allah and we should not believe that its the vaccine which is preventing the illness. Its Allah and Allah alone. However through His mercy Allah has granted us the knowledge and the ability to prevent such illnesses. We should not take these illnesses lightly. do you know how dangerous meningitis is for a baby? or how disabling polio is? Even mumps can cause infection of brain and even make boys infertile!! Of course all of this is only through the will of Allah but even Prophet Mohammed (sallalaho alahi wasalam) did not discourage taking medication. Your intention has to be correct though.

This is just my humble opinion. Please ask Aalims for the fiqh of this issue. If I have hurt anybody then please forgive me.

May Allah guide us all to the right path. Ameen.

It has been confirmed by a Muslim doctor that only the nasal form of vaccination has the pork gelatine, and not the injection.

Extracts from an article by Dr. Yusuf Nanabhay
(The Muslim Woman, Volume 4, Edition 2)

The disgusting filth of Western medicine

Whooping cough uses the mucus of infected children. Typhoid the excrement of victims. Rubella, Chicken pox is grown on aborted foetuses. The old Hep B vaccine was derived from human blood, specifically the blood of homosexual men who have had Hepatitis (this vaccine was replaced by a genetically engineered version which is grown on yeast cells, however the older version was never withdrawn until they used all of it up).

The weakened germ must then be strengthened with adjuvants (antibody boosters) and stabilizers. This is done by adding drugs, antibiotics and toxic disinfectants to the concoction: neomycin, streptomycin, sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, aluminium hydroxide, sorbital, hydrolized gelatin, formaldehyde, and thimerosal (a mercury derivative).

THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCE IN THE U.S.A. REVIEWED ALL MEDICAL LITERATURE AND CONCLUDED THAT ALL 9 VACCINES HAD THE POTENTIAL TO DO SERIOUS HARM.

Danger of Vaccination

It took 85 years for humanity to link the observed side effects, including death, to the smallpox vaccine. The general public is essentially unaware of the true number of people who have been permanently damaged or killed by vaccines. In fact, most parents would be surprised to learn that the Government has a computer data base filled with several thousand names of disabled and dead babies, children who were healthy and alive just prior to receiving the vaccines.

Harmful Reactions of Vaccinations

Aluminium formaldehyde, and mercury are extremely toxic substances with a long history of documented hazardous effects. Studies confirm again and again that microscopic doses of these substances can lead to cancer, neurological damage and death. Yet, each of them may be found in childhood vaccines.

Dear brother/sister Broklynyte4ever,

Please do not believe these scare mongering books/literature. I have not read the book but the things you mention almost made me laugh. Do you really believe that to make a vaccine doctors go around wards collecting mucus from infected kids to give to others?! How will any health authority allow people to be vaccinated using excrement from patients? All the above are false statements. Trust me I work in the medical profession. No fetus is used to make vaccines. That is very very unethical even for non-muslims. In fact to carry out experiments using fetuses or stem cells you have to get permission from Ethical Boards which is not an easy process. These are false statements and I do not know where they have come from. Please do not spread such things as the implications of Muslims not taking vaccines due to these lies will be catastrophic.

I would like to clarify one thing though. With regards to Flu vaccine I am not sure if Muslims should have it or not. The reason I say this is because in most cases Flu is a self limiting illness which does not cause any serious ill health. You will with the will of Allah most likely recover in a few days. Thus will taking vaccine containing pork gelatine be allowed? I am not sure and we need to ask muftis/aalims for this. However vaccination against polio/diptehria/meningitis etc cannot be placed in the same category as these cause very serious ill health and even death especially for kids.

And Allah know best.
