Bismillahirrahmanirrahim

Assalaamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu:

Recently I've noticed more news reports of children who are struggling with their gender identities; and, with the help of their families, are trying to get accepted as a member of the opposite sex - without changing their physical sex. To be sure, this is happening to children so young it has nothing to do with sexual preferences. No, indeed, it has everything to do with gender identity alone at this point; though I don't doubt that many do or will want to undergo sex change at some point in their lives. There are little girls who want to be little boys, and little boys who want to be little girls. Ya Allah! This is so painful to see and hear :(

My random thoughts on this insha'Allah:

With regards to little boys wanting to be like little girls... is it any wonder with TV, hollywood, little pageants, and all these fancy clothes and toys that are geared towards girls that boys might want to have some of that attention too? I doubt this problem would exist (at least to this extent) in the absence of such filth. Attention of one sort.

With regards to little girls wanting to be like little boys... is it any wonder with co-ed participation and competition, that girls might want to have attention for athletic achievements not because they can do it as a girl but because they want to be recognized just like the boys are... somehow the attention is different and that is not lost on girls. I doubt this problem would exist (at least to this extent) in the absence of such unnecessary value being placed on such pursuits for both in co-ed situations, or, better yet, in the absence of co-ed participation and competition - regardless of age and especially when the kids are young!

As rosy pink and beautiful as it may seem, the world is a nasty place for impressionable minds. Often, we don't think twice about these things... they just seem so insignificant. But boy-oh-boy, do they have a huge impact! Just think... genuinely concerned parents are trying to make things better for their children given their circumstances but the reality is that everyone is so heavily deceived that many can't distinguish right from wrong anymore.

Girls are increasingly encouraged to dress in a "sexy way" while boys are discouraged to be "manly" and society is paying the price!

Moving beyond transgender, the words the person (now deceased) in the following article used to describe their upbringing highlights at least one aspect of this problem. Parents aside, there are those health professionals and others that help 'make' it happen - those who agree to 'help' these poor confused people with their sex-change operations... and then those who deal the final blow and assist in their demise.

La hawla wa la quwwata illa Billah

~~~
Quote:
A Belgian man has been killed by medical euthanasia after claiming that a botched sex change operation had turned him into "a monster."
Nathan, born Nancy, Verhelst, 44, was given legal euthanasia, most likely by lethal injection, on the grounds of "unbearable psychological suffering."
Wim Distelmans, a cancer specialist who carried out the euthanasia on Monday, is the same doctor who last year gave lethal injections to congenitally deaf twins who were frightened they were also going blind.
Explaining his decision hours before his death, Mr. Verhelst said he was "the girl that nobody wanted."
He told Het Laatste Nieuws newspaper: "While my brothers were celebrated, I got a storage room above the garage as a bedroom. 'If only you had been a boy,' my mother complained. I was tolerated, nothing more."
He was in a situation with incurable, unbearable suffering. Unbearable suffering for euthanasia can be both physical and psychological
Mr. Verhelst had hormone therapy in 2009, followed by a mastectomy and surgery to construct a penis last year.
However, "none of these operations worked as desired", he said. "I was ready to celebrate my new birth, but when I looked in the mirror, I was disgusted with myself. My new breasts did not match my expectations and my new penis had symptoms of rejection. I do not want to be a monster."
He informed his family of his death by letter. "I had happy times, but the balance is on the wrong side," he said.
Distelmans said: "He was in a situation with incurable, unbearable suffering. Unbearable suffering for euthanasia can be both physical and psychological."
Mr. Verhelst's death will revive Belgium's debate over medical euthanasia as statistics show a 25% increase this year, to 1,432, in the number of cases. The country is one of only three in Europe, along with The Netherlands and Luxembourg, that allows the practice.
Nancy Verhelst born 44 years ago was treated differently because she was a girl, given an inferior bedroom so the feelings of inferiority grew to the extent that sex change operation was unsuccessful until Nathan Verhelst decided to kill himself!
There is a lesson for all of us in this story.
Treat your children EQUALLY:
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ الْعَوَّامِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ، قَالَ تَصَدَّقَ عَلَىَّ أَبِي بِبَعْضِ مَالِهِ فَقَالَتْ أُمِّي عَمْرَةُ بِنْتُ رَوَاحَةَ لاَ أَرْضَى حَتَّى تُشْهِدَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏ فَانْطَلَقَ أَبِي إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لِيُشْهِدَهُ عَلَى صَدَقَتِي فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ أَفَعَلْتَ هَذَا بِوَلَدِكَ كُلِّهِمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ لاَ ‏.‏ قَالَ ‏"‏ اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَاعْدِلُوا فِي أَوْلاَدِكُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ فَرَجَعَ أَبِي فَرَدَّ تِلْكَ الصَّدَقَةَ ‏.
Nu'man b. Bashir (RA) reported: My father donated to me some of his property. My mother Amra bint Rawaha (RA) said: I shall not be pleased (with this act) until you make Allah's Messenger (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) a witness to it. My father went to Allah's Apostle (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) in order to make him the witness of the donation given to me. Allah's Messenger (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam)said to him: Have you done the same with every son of yours? He said: No. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Fear Allah, and observe equity in case of your children. My father returned and got back the gift. [Shaeeh Muslim]
Parent's AFFECTING children:
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا مِنْ مَوْلُودٍ إِلَّا يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ فَأَبَوَاهُ يُهَوِّدَانِهِ وَيُنَصِّرَانِهِ وَيُمَجِّسَانِهِ كَمَا تُنْتَجُ الْبَهِيمَةُ بَهِيمَةً جَمْعَاءَ هَلْ تُحِسُّونَ فِيهَا مِنْ جَدْعَاءَ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ وَاقْرَءُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ فِطْرَةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِخَلْقِ اللَّهِ
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “No one is born except they are upon natural instinct, then his parents turn him into a Jew or Christian or Magian. As animals produce their young with perfect limbs, do you see anything defective?” Abu Huraira said: Recite the verse if you wish, “So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth, the nature of Allah upon which He has created the people. No change should there be in the creation of Allah; that is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.” (30:30) [Shaeeh Muslim]
May Allah (SWT) give us the ability to follow the Sunnah (Ameen).
I am the mother of a transgender child, I am also Muslim
My daughter has lived as a little boy since she was 4 years old and is now completely unrecognizable as a female.
She hates the body she was born with and tells me all the time that Allah made a mistake. She is 9 years old but feels suicidal at times. She can not stand to even look at her body and wears shorts when taking a shower so she does not have to look at the part of her body she believes was given to her incorrectly at birth
Gender Identity Disorder exists, its a real life birth defect. Unless you have a child who has gender identity disorder you can not even begin to imagine what it is like for both parent and child.
My daughter was dressed as a little girl all pink and pretty as a baby/toddler she was bought gender specific toys but from a baby she was always angry and signs something was wrong go right back to when she was 2. TV has not made her like this neither has anything else, she was born this way and its about time people opened their mind and realized it is possible to be born with the brain of one sex and the body as the other.
As a parent I grieve everyday for the daughter I gave birth to as I learn to accept who she believes she should have been born as. When you see your own child sobbing her heart out in the bath screaming that she needs a knife to remove her breasts because she has started early puberty and it takes hours to calm her down it totally breaks your heart.
I now no longer mix with the muslim community in my town because the reaction to my daughter has been horrific with blame being put entirely at my feet by other muslims for making her that way.
I just wanted to put across that even muslim children can be born this way and it has nothing whatsoever to do with TV,Films,Games,co-ed participation and competition or anything else.
Assalaamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu dear sister:
First of all, I can't even begin to imagine how much pain all of this has caused you (the reaction of not only your daughter, but of the community as well). I don't know what to say or do but I do hear you and at some level, I truly understand how you feel even-though I have not experienced what you have.
This is a true test for us all - individuals, families, and communities.
If I could, I would have hugged you.
Sister, there is a lot going on with the way certain genders are presented through various media and, while it may or may not have had anything to do with your daughter's case, it can and does affect at least some children. So, I don't know if it is right to state that "...it has nothing whatsoever to do with TV,Films,Games,co-ed participation and competition or anything else" just as much as it may not be right to state that "all children are affected by external variables and it has nothing to do with biological factors."
It could even be all the GMOs we've been pumping into our bodies, which some claim to cause various genetic changes.
It may well be a combination of biosocial factors but regardless of what is the cause, it is a test for us all. We can't ignore the impact of societal forces, nor can we ignore the impact GMOs have on our physical bodies and potential changes to our genetic makeup.
It is disturbing to think of a child so young (starting at 2) being affected in such a powerful (forceful) way about their private parts. It must have been so hard to have to deal with.
I don't think ostracizing people is the solution or that it is at all helpful, nor is it helpful to blame parents since we are a part of a larger community that has as much if not more influence on our children (often also through us, since we reflect the values of our communities to some extent too). Nor do I know what to think about the biological aspect of this... I am hoping scholars examine these issues broadly and address them for us all.
Asslamo Allaikum Sister,
May Allah (SWT) make it easy for you (Ameen). Plenty of parents deal with special needs children, disabled children, ill children on a daily basis from Fajar till Esha wondering what they or their children have done wrong to deserve this sort of life in this world.
Sister, life is a test and we just need to get on with the test.
Is Islamic spirituality it is called “Radha Bil-Qadha” being satisfied with your destiny or in secular terms coming to terms with reality.
This is your test and her test but know that you are alone in this world to be tested.
Now lets discuss the issue.
Being born in a certain way is indeed not the fault of your child but as she grows up (acting in a certain way) is certainly in her control and in your remit to teach her.
When we walk around we encounter plenty of good looking people and it is in our remit and control to put a lid on our desires.
Sister really feel for what your daughter is going through and has gone through, stigmatizm is the ugliest and cruelest form of punishment for any parent and child. You and your family are truly in my duas....Allah grant your daughter and you the best of both worlds, and reward you immensely.
Stay strong....unfortunately being judgemental is part of the dark side of human nature, irrelevant of whether a person is muslim or non muslim. Allah protect you from the darkside of mankind, and keep you in the company of only those who will be a source of strength and benefit to you both in this world and the next. Aameen
