Is there any website / recognized organization / etc that provide an option to contribute to our people in Syria THROUGH PAYPAL ??

I always look at Lillah as giving money purely for the pleasure of Allah and not wanting something in return, although we know there will be. I look at Sadaqah as giving money when we want something in return or get something in return or are in need of something.

What is Lillah?

Lillah meaning 'for Allah', comprises any form of charity given in the cause of Allah on a pure voluntary basis. This charitable giving is over and above the Zakah that one is liable for.

For instance, many charitable organisations collect Lillah for Relief Aid, Wells, Masjid and Madresa running costs. These contributions are made through the goodwill of Muslims who give solely for the pleasure of Allah.

Zakah can only be spent directly on the poor (money in hand) and not on projects such as construction whereas Lillah can be utilised in constructing Masajid, digging Tube Wells and projects such as the Ummah Children Academy (UCA) and the Deep Boring Rig in Africa (being implemented by Ummah Welfare Trust). Exactly!

That's why many people don't give Lillah, especially in Ramadhan. However you see people pulling out their wallets and fat notes and waving them around just before it goes into the collection box for others to see, but what they don't realise is that the Zakat was something they had no choice for and had to give it. Lets see these people, including myself putting the same amount into Lillah secretly.

Don't get me wrong, MANY people do already do it and may Allah reward them immensely.

I once sent out a huge email in response to an Islamic school asking for Zakat money from everyone (this was for a new school in India). I too was sent that email. I saw that many family members were putting all their "Cash" together in the thousands ready to be sent off. They were all excited and one could sense the feeling of pride emanating from them as to the amount they were giving and what the people in India would think of them. Khair an email was composed with all the evidence that was needed to say that lillah/sadaqah was the only thing they were able to give as this money was not going to those liable for Zakat as mentioned in the Quran. Conclusion was that another email was sent be them asking for LILLAH Only donations. (For the Record: The money was not for the students but was for land and planning permission)

Just goes on to say there are so many masa'il to understand or inform ourselves...

While we should guard ourselves from showing off, yet when it comes to children, it is necessary to show them you are giving money and stuff towards sadaqah / charity etc so that they inculcate the habit...here it is NOT riyaa / showing off - do check with your Mufti's regarding this)
