"Amr bil Ma'ruf wa Nahy an al Munkar (امر بالمعروف و نهى عن المنكر)."

If they don't oppose it, the Muslim youth will assume its okay. They will be held accountable for not doing anything about it and if they didn't, they would have the weakest of weak Imaan.

I'm assuming you have something positive to say.

This is the letter signed by 500+ muslims leaders and ulama in opposition to gay marriage...

SIR - We have serious misgivings about the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill, which seeks to legalise gay marriage.

As imams and Muslim leaders we have a responsibility to fulfil our sacred trust to God and present our view on these proposals on behalf of the Muslim communities we serve.

Marriage is a sacred contract between a man and a woman that cannot be redefined. We believe that marriage between a man and a woman is the cornerstone of family life and the only institution within which to raise children.

We are concerned that this radical change to the institution of marriage will impact on what is taught in schools. Muslim teachers will be forced into the contradictory position of holding private beliefs, while teaching a new legal definition of marriage. Muslim parents will be robbed of their right to raise their children according to their beliefs, as gay relationships are taught as something normal to their primary-aged children.

We support the numerous calls from other faith leaders and communities who have stood firmly against gay marriage and instead support marriage as it should be, between a man and a woman.

It is our responsibility to take the deen to non Muslims, wether they are gay or not. Since there will be no Prophet to come, we need to do what we can to make our point too.

So the question "What does it have to do with us what the gays do?" is null and void in my opinion.

Quote:

Allaah does not create anyone just to punish or torture them. He created mankind to worship Him, but He may try His slaves with hardship as a test of their faith, to expiate for their sins and to raise their status. Allaah is too Just to force a person to commit sin and then punish him. On the contrary, people commit sins by their own free choice – like these perverted people – and it is for this that they deserve to be punished. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“and your Lord treats no one with injustice” [al-Kahf 18:49]

And Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Nay, Allaah never commands Fahshaa’ (evil deeds, unlawful sexual intercourse). Do you say of Allaah what you know not?” [al-A’raaf 7:28]

And Allaah knows best.

shouldnt our ulama also be speaking out against other things taught in schools?

eg, sex outside of marriage, relationships between unmarried couples, unwarranted contraception...etc...
and of course the blatant negation of Allah - evolution and atheism (isnt this more dangerous than homosexuality?).

i am not for gay marriage in any sense and support whoever speaks out against gay marriage , but i think the ulama and the muslim community has missed the boat. kufr and the promotion of major sins are already taking place in the schools and community. promotion of homosexuality will just be another another one for the pile.

when are our ulama and the muslim community at large going to admit the obvious - that it is haram to send our children to an environment where kufr is promoted and taught? in fact, when are we going to admit to ourselves that it is haram for us to live and bring up our children in a kafir country where the kufr is promoted and taught around every corner?

So it seems the question was to highlight a bigger issue.

If that's the case, then my comments about your question being null and void are invalid.

A rhetorical question is not a question and can be disagreed with and disliked if inappropriate.

"Is it our business what gays do?" would be a question. "What does it have to do with us what gays do?" already has your view and statement within the question.

no matter how much we try to fight against this tide of kufr, it is going to keep on coming, keep on coming, keep on coming. it will be relentless. it may retreat a step or two but only as a strategy. kufr does not care about allah and the laws of allah. kufr does not care about fitrah and decency. kufr is is opposed to allah and the laws of allah. kufr is opposed to fitrah and decency. this is the very nature of kufr. iblees and his cohorts will NEVER be happy until the muslims become just like them. we can protest as much as we like. but they have a set aim from which they will never diverge.

once we recognise and understand this, maybe we will then understand what needs to be done.

Asslamo Allaikum Shaykh,

I agree with you that many Ulamah and laymen are not even aware of what's being argued so lets summarise the issue. What is being discussed is Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill 2012-13 to 2013-14 which seeks to change the legal definition of marriage. The ramifications of this change are as follows:

  1. State Schools will be required to teach the legal definitin of marriage
  2. Parents will not be allowed to opt out
  3. Board of Governers will not be allowed to opt out
  4. Government/Council/NHS Employees will be be legally sacked and/or disciplined for giving the definition of marriage which is against the law
  5. An Imam will be legally sacked and/or disciplined for giving the definition of marriage which is against the law
  6. Doctors/Nurses will be legally required to stick to the official (legal) definition of marriage
  7. All Government front line staff will NOT BE ABLE to give Islamic definition of marriage in their private lives on forums, twitter, facebook as they can be liable for legal action. The precedence is already set for sacking staff for using twitter (in their private time)
  8. Ulama (in public or private) in any Government capacity (NHS, Prison, Military etc) will not be allowed to give Islamic definition of marriage
  9. Any British citizen will have the right to bring a civil suit against any site (www.central-mosque.com) or forum (SF, Muftisays etc) which publicly disagree with legal definition of marriage, whether they win in court or not but they can pursue the matter in the courts!

All in all it isn't about Gay Marriage but changing the legal definition of marriage which is serious stuff. Government can grant rights to Gays without actually changing the legal terms and frameworks of marriage (we don't agree with it ofcourse but it isn;t as dangerous legally!)

Why is the Government doing this?

  • In 2004 Gallop poll suggested that 52% of British people were in favour of granting rights to Gays to get married
  • In 2009 it was 61%!
  • In 2010 it was 78%

Do you see the picture? This is all due to relentless public campaign.

The opposition is due to Government fundamentally (and legally) changing the definition of marriage so its much more then just Gay Marriage.

Jazakullah Khairun

jazakAllah khair to br Muadh for the info.

Plus, if the ulamah had been only talking against atheism and modernism and not on homos, then we would have said why not? Now when they are talking about homos but not atheism, then we are still asking why not?

So take a step back and let them carry on, one thing will lead to another, inshaAllah, today homos tomorrow atheists, iA why not?

An obvious reality to face is that ulamah just can't one fine day speak against kufr in educational institutions, because with proper upbringing at home, your kid could still turn up very deeni....plus there are no alternatives, so if they speak against, the awaam would ask the ulamah what are the alternatives?

So I think you get the picture..

Plus, remember, the Huqq will always be ghaalib upon ba'til, always. And in this case the huqq is that Allah created man for a woman and a woman for a man.

Man can create laws, thats it, try to legitimize it but it will never be.

Plus, if you observe history, the qaum of hadrath Lut (pbuh) suffered more stringent punishment for practicing homosexuality THAN firaun for claiming to be God - the latter does because of drowning where as the former...( heard this form Maulana Tariq Jameel damath baraka tuhum ).

salaam

Plus, if the ulamah had been only talking against atheism and modernism and not on homos, then we would have said why not? Now when they are talking about homos but not atheism, then we are still asking why not?

why not both? it doesnt take much. even a simple talk before jumma salaat is a start.

the ulama are in a position where they are the inheritors of the Prophet (saw) and they are the leaders of the community. they have knowledge of the quran and sunnah and are in a position where they can make their voices heard and influence the common lay muslim. i have talked and will continue to talk and try to influence those who listen to me, but my voice will not be heard and accepted by the community at large as in their eyes i am a nobody, and in reality i am a nobody.

it is good that they are concerned about the current issue of redefining marriage, but from what i have seen and experienced this is not the main problem. the main problem (which seems to have been relatively ignored) is the promotion of modernism, atheism, darwinism, kufr, negation of allah etc which has lead to the issue of gay marriage being more readily accepted by the population at large and more worryingly the muslim community and more specifically the muslim youth.

i have no idea what is going on in india, but the muslim youth in the uk have begun to join the non muslims who have started to accept homosexuality as a legitimate form of relationship. not so long ago a homosexual would be looked down upon with disgust and would have to hide his corruption, but today it is 'cool' to be a homosexual and to have homosexual friends. not so long ago homosexuals were rejected by society, but now people who are against homosexuality are rejected by society! this is because their minds have already been corrupted by what is taught in the schools and other various forms of propaganda such as the media and hollywood.

the root of the problem is the conditioning that takes place from the time a child is born. this conditioning takes place in various forms and needs to be addressed. signing a letter or petition is not going to reverse and stop whatever conditioning takes place. even if we can stop homosexual marriage becoming law, homosexuality will still be promoted and accepted by the muslim youth. it is only a matter of time when homosexuality will be entwined with society in the same way as heterosexuality is today. when this happens it will be common place to see homosexual behaviour promoted in advertising, schools, books and tv including childrens books and tv, in newspapers, magazines, etc etc etc...... I DO NOT WANT MY KIDS TO GROW UP IN SUCH A SOCIETY. DO YOU? DOES ANYONE ELSE READING THIS?

So take a step back and let them carry on, one thing will lead to another, inshaAllah, today homos tomorrow atheists, iA why not?

atheism has already become the norm and promoted in schools and society. this is what the muslim youth are being exposed to. how many steps should we take back?

An obvious reality to face is that ulamah just can't one fine day speak against kufr in educational institutions, because with proper upbringing at home, your kid could still turn up very deeni....plus there are no alternatives, so if they speak against, the awaam would ask the ulamah what are the alternatives?

why cant they speak against kufr in educational institutions? but seriously...why cant they? is it because thats where they send their own kids?

proper upbringing at home is one part of it, but we cannot ignore the huge time our children are exposed to kufr and shirk while attending the educational facilities of the kuffar. the damage this has caused is right before our eyes.

there are alternatives. and if there is a need that need will be fulfilled by the provision of more alternatives. its just down to what we value more. do we value the deen more and put education in second place or do we value education more and relegate the deen to second place? my children have only ever attended muslim schools even though i have had to scrape together the fees and struggled to pay them. now my children are homeschooled and alhamdolillah that was the BEST decision i made about their education and tarbiyyah ever!

So I think you get the picture..

not really...

Plus, remember, the Huqq will always be ghaalib upon ba'til, always. And in this case the huqq is that Allah created man for a woman and a woman for a man.

so we sit back and let ourselves and our youth be corrupted???

Man can create laws, thats it, try to legitimize it but it will never be.

what???

Plus, if you observe history, the qaum of hadrath Lut (pbuh) suffered more stringent punishment for practicing homosexuality THAN firaun for claiming to be God - the latter does because of drowning where as the former...( heard this form Maulana Tariq Jameel damath baraka tuhum ).

he also believes those who go in jamaat and eat bread and honey for breakfast are better than those who leave their family and wealth and place their lives in allah's mercy and go for jihad.

We are heading for clash of civilisations because when our fore-fathers got here they simply worked and were largely left alone. We can do our jobs, pay our taxes be honest upright citizens and aren't being left alone and that's the issue. As Tax paying citizens of this country we no longer have the right to educate our children and for our Ulamah to educate on true Islamic teachings and the Sunnah and the rights have been eroded.  Our Sisters and daughters will not be allowed to dress they want and some lands have already restricted that.

If it hasn't already life in these lands for us will become impossible. In my mind Tassawuff and Tableeghi Jamaat from the Deobandees are both the culprits in our dire situation because they both have the similar outlook on life:

  1. Tableeghees say go four months and do your Aamaal and ignore everything else
  2. Sufees say attend the Majlis and listen to your Shaykh and do your Aamaal and ignore everything else
  3. Madkhali (Salafees) are of the exact same opinion as Tableeghees & Sufees and their Ulamah say the exact same things as Tableeghi & Sufi Ulamah

There are some exceptions to Sufi Mashaykh but almost none amongst Tableeghees.

If this was the ultimate solution then Sayyidina Rasul-ullah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) and the BEST of Sahaba (RA) would have neither migrated to Madina nor fought at Bad'r because it is impossible to imagine that the Sahaba (RA) lacked Eeman or actions and YET they did something ABOVE & BEYOND their personal daily actions.

Sahaba (RA) had Eeman, they did their Aamaal and they were 110% loyal to their Shaykh i.e. Sayyidina Rasul-ullah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wassallam) and YET their Eeman, Actions and loyalty to their Peer wasn't enough to change their condition!

Such delusion has never existed in the Islamic Ummah : - (

Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,

When our Ulamah like Shaykhul-Islam Hussain Ahmed Madani (RA) decided to OPPOSE Pakistan and to live with Hindu Majority you have to look at their courage and tenacity as:

  1. Hazrat (RA) gave his famous Fatwa against Muslims joining the British Army and when he was arrested and tried in Khaliq Deena Hall Karachi by the British instead of repenting what did he say?

The most that you can do is hang or shoot us and martyr us. See that I have brought my shroud on my shoulder for I am fully prepared for my death

He actually carried his Kafan (Shroud) on his shoulder to the Trial and re-repeated his entire Fatwa in front of the Judge verbatim and ensured that the Judge heard it firsthand

How can we match the Taqwa of these people? :- (
