Bone Char Filters: Halal or Haram?

salaam

i recently came across some info regarding bone char being used as a filter and in sugar refinement amongst other things.

the bone char is derived from non zabiha animals and may also be derived from completely haram animals such as pigs.

does this render the end product to be haram or do the scholars agree that the bone char has changed so much from the original bone that it is no longer classified as bone?
