Assalaamu 'Alaykum

Lately there was much furore on the internet with fatwas flying from one side to the other regarding the permissibility (or impermissiblity) of masturat (females) going out in khuruj and participating in Tabligh activities. Without opening that can of worms I recently seen a fatwa written by a Mufti who not long ago went to great lengths and pain in justifying women going out in Tabligh. In this one-line fatwa the respected Mufti writes that women should not go to the masjid for Jumu'ah or any other salah. He writes: "Women should not go out for the Friday salaah or any other salaah."

Without going into the debate whether it is permissible or not. I do not understand the Mufti going into much detail justifying female Tabligh but not permitting them from attending jama'ah salah at the masjid.

W-Salam,

What does the same Hazrat Mufti Saheb (HA) say about women driving or shopping or dropping their children to School etc?

The believing men and believing women are close friends to one another. They enjoin the good and forbid the evil. (Quran 9:71)

"There is tremendous need for Tabligh amongst women. It is of course best to arrange for family women to be taught at home. Otherwise a gathering may be arranged once a week in the locality, where all the women should arrive in Hijab. If the women need to travel, they should do so with the husbands or other Mahram men so that they come to no harm and no evil arises. In this manner, they can also achieve personal reformation". And Allah knows best.

Assalaamu 'Alaykum

The Mufti does say that it is not permissible for women to leave home for shopping or dropping of children, etc and this is the responsibility of the husband unless there is a necessity such as she does not have a husband, etc.

The said Mufti writes in his fatwa on women going out for masturat jama'at:

[quote] However, due to the sad and unfortunate plight of the ummah witnessed across the globe, where a decline and degeneration of Deeni morals and values are seen in women, to the extent that they are openly seen frequenting the shopping centres and bazaars, halls and malls, occupying positions in shops and offices, driving about freely, going for morning walks and jogs in groups, taking part in national and international sports and even the Olympics, attending schools and universities, getting involved with or marring non Muslims, being influenced by anti Islamic beliefs and ideologies e.g. Darwin’s theory etc. and are also seen intermingling and interacting with the opposite sex without any sense of shame and modesty. Due to this sad and unfortunate plight, the need was perceived to use some other Halaal alternative which may perhaps not be the ideal but a means to acquire the ideal - a means through which a woman can once again come onto the path of the Sunnah and find her true place in her home and observe complete purdah. Hence the ‘Ulama have thought of ways (through girls Madrasahs and Mastooraat Jama’at) to reform and rectify the unimaginable maladies and uncontrollable ailments which have spread in the ummah.

Brother Abu Taalib, as I pointed out I don't wish to debate the issue whether women are allowed or not to go out for Tabligh and if you wish to present the proof for or against open a new thread for this. The topic here is specific to that mentioned.

Jazakallah

Asslamo Allaikum,

I can sort of understand Hazrat Mufti Saheb (HA)'s logic because:

  1. Our beloved Sayyidina Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) expressly stated that the best place for Muslimahs to pray is their house so attending Masjid for Salah would be discouraged
  2. Our beloved Sayyidina Rasul-ullah (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) used to draw lots to take our noble mothers for travel with him during journeys

So there is some precedence for the conflicting Fatwaas. Although many Ulamah of today permit women to drive and do other things etc so attending Masjid which was always permissable to begin with needs to be relaxed because on the practical side we no longer live in Muslim countries so Muslim women do need to attend the Masjid to lift their Eemaan and attend Dars etc.

In our Masjid they have seprate entrance and women Halaqah is done by multiple Alimahs completely separate and in a room in the Masjid (away from Jamaat Khana) and on a different floor and on top of that partition screens are placed around the lift etc so we can't realy discourage that or declare that Makrooh etc

Allah (SWT) knows best.

Assalamualaykum

1. Is it permissible for women to attend Islamic talks at the local Masjid at night with their Mahram where there are separate entrances & segregation, but at the time of departure, due to the large numbers there would be an inevitable intermingling of the sexes in the Masjid car park?

NOT PERMISSIBLE. WOMEN CAN LISTEN ON THE RECEIVER AT HOME.

2. What would the ruling be in the same situation, but where the lady comes to the Masjid at night without her Mahram & not in niqab?

NOT PERMISSIBLE.

3. If the speaker, who is an Alim, knows or should have reasonable cause to believe that women will be travelling to the Masjid on their own at night, without niqab, should he still give a talk or refuse to do so?

BETTER TO DISCOURAGE THEM.

4. Would the scholar be complicit in sin if he were to give a talk in such a situation knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that ladies were attending a night talk without their Mahrams & not observing the rules of Hijab?

YES HE ALSO WILL BE SINFUL.

Assalamu alaykum

The reply to this is: one has to enternally wait for official response from markaz.

Secondly; There are every day abuses from Meraaj rabbani, Taaliburrahman, Rizvis, Anwar ali etc. The response to them is eternal silence and be doing your effort.

Now let us add a few more arm chair pesonalities to this list.

All the reasons used to allow women's tableegh, women's ijtima, women's conferences, and so on, the modernists use similar reasons to allow women going to the masjid. So it looks stupid and hypocritical for our muftis to criticize the modernists position of women being allowed to go to mosques for salaat, taleem, dawah, and other needs of the times, because the mosque is the headquarters of the communities needs. It's time our muftis move with the times consistently.

If you mean the muftis should change the laws of Islam according to modernism then you're on the wrong web site.

Is the "786" in your username moving on with times too?

salaam

i think the answer is somewhere in the middle.

for some women (those who are far from deen and have no other means to connect with the deen) it is better for them to engage with tablighi activities outside of their home (providing major allowances in the deen are not made), and for some women (those who have been brought up on the deen and already have a connection to the deen) it is better for them to remain in their homes and learn from their fathers/brothers/husbands and other women of the family.

as for who falls into which category, then that is debatable on an individual basis.

the problem as i see it is that tabligh jamaat sathis believe that EVERYONE needs to enagage in tabligh jamaat activities, regardless of what level they are on in the deen and what other deeni activities they may be involved in and whether they are benefiting from tabligh jamaat or not.

I agree. TJ is not the solution for everyone. Brothers and sisters are engaged in other activities, let us respect them. They all are parallel activities towards the same goal.
