Would Sahabah (RA), if present today, condone performance of Salah in a mall instead of Masjid? Consider the ayat: "Rijalool la toolhihim..." before answering?

Please bear in mind that this thread was started AFTER I learnt about the ruling mentioned by my Mufti.

Main point of the lecture was that praying sitting down is only valid if you have a shar'i ruling like an illness etc. However, due to certain restrictions on planes, cars etc if one can not stand, then they should pray sitting, BUT they would need to repeat their Salah. The Salah will not be qadha since the first one was Adaa (from what I understand, I could be wrong)

As it's mentioned by the guest and Mufti Saab, Qiyam is one of the faraid.

There are numerous reports in Hadith that mentioned companions offering their Sunnah and Nafil Salah on horseback etc and not always facing the qiblah. But when it came to the Fard, they would dismount and face qiblah without fail. So there is also no evidence to pray fard sitting without a valid excuse.


For those of you who have a predicament of a few Salah prayed sitting in the car, then they should speak to their Mufti and ask them for advice. I asked my Mufti, (the lecturer in the link) and I had to explain my situation to him (via email) I explained that my work is based on various sites since I'm an engineer. I go to different sites daily and work in other people's offices doing installations etc, so most of the Dhohar salaah would be performed in the car, so in the last 13+ years, I've been doing many salaah in car, and he said in the lecture that one has to make up for it, I asked him how I would be able to make up for all those years, and I don't even know how many and which ones, because during winter, I'd offer Asar and Maghrib in the car too.

Anyways, his last word on it was that we needed to sit down and talk about it so he got a better idea of what I'm talking about. So if you've missed a few, compare that to years of Salah.

I am hopeful to Allah that I don't have to make up for them, so if and when I can, I will repeat them, and since I found out the ruling, I only pray sitting if I'm running out of time or if there is no choice. And when I do, I make up for it the same day.

Allah is merciful and we hope he forgives us on the basis that we had no knowledge of the ruling.

When I used to be semi-professional footballer, I used to pray on or near football pitches up and down the country, sometimes in front of large crowds.

Strangely, during the more than five years in that yobbish environment where hooliganism is not very uncommon, I didn't receive a single word of taunting or abuse - at least any that were done within audible range. So I missed out on the rewards others here would have received by bearing abuse while obeying Allah Ta'ala.

I remember on my debut, the referee had issues with my long shorts designed to cover my knees which were worn beneath my team shorts. He was just applying the FA regulations to the letter of the law. The players (all non-Muslims) ganged up on him and bullied him so much, he buckled and let it pass.
