The title must make you think "Why in the world is he Laughing out Loud"? Or "Why is he LOLing"?

Well it all comes from a little lecture I heard yesterday. (If Admin can upload it)

It was very good little talk and the gist of it was "Dont get carried away with your Phones"

It was a funny lecture, all those who heard it laughed and passed it on.

I did the same, However, it made me think. LOL, In fact it's made Me Think Out Loud.

The Shaykh said that half of the conversations (via mobile chats) is filled with LOL. Laugh Out Loud. Which made me laugh for real.

Then I started to think, "Do I ever use LOL, if so how often". I then realised that at one time I was totally anti-LOL and it was only because I always knew it as Lots Of Love!

As time went by, I also started using it as a quick remark to say you know what. Then I looked into what I would've said had I not use LOL.

SubhanAllah, I looked back into my posts and whatsApp etc, and came to realise, that prior to this, I would have praised Allah سبحانه وتعالى in one way or another with, SubhanAllah, Alhumdulillah or Allahu Akbar and even InnaLillahi wa Innailayhe Rajeoon to really show my feelings.

Please try and stop using it as it is because of you that I have picked this habit up, since you are all my family members, it has rubbed of onto me.

I dont want to be left out with one tree less in Paradise for not saying SubhanAllah, and I'm sure you don't either. As we know from Hadhrat Ibrahim (as) Paradise is empty, it will only fill up with trees when we remember Allah.

The fact is that Shaitan is the winner here because he is the one Laughing Out Loud when we miss out.

Jazakallahu Khairun.

Another new trend which helps us so much in getting less reward is making a mockery of the deen.

ASTAGFIRULLAH, what is with these idiots who make these pathetic videos making a mockery of our deen and then spreading them far and wide.

They make videos and audio files of animated creatures praying and taking the mick of the Sunnah etc.

If you get something like this, please don't.forward it, in fact reply to them telling them off. Give them a lesson or two.

Jazakallahu khair.

Agreed.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihe wasallam) said: "If you knew what I know, you would laugh less and cry more."

a good post from a youth forum
Quote:

"If you ask them (about this), they declare: 'We were only talking idly and joking.' Say: 'Was it at Allaah, and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?' Make no excuse; you disbelieved [became Kaafir] after you had believed..." [al-Tawbah 9:65-66]

It is important for anyone who cares about his Deen and desires Jannah that he does not mock any part of the Deen, whether it is Salaah, dawah, wudu, the beard, niqaab, marriage, punishment system, jihaad or even the Muslims who practice these or any other part of the Deen.

If these same videos were done by the kuffar, like the cartoons, there would be protests and riots.

Looks like we Muslims are being two faced.

Shame on us.

The newspaper al-Nakhbah al-Khaleejiyyah (issues nos. 128 and 133) mentioned a group of artists who start their songs with a mawwaal (poem in colloquial language) which starts with the singing of some verses from the Qur'aan. This has become common among many artists and actors. What is the Islamic ruling on singing the verses of the Qur'aan or giving them a tune like singing?

Praise be to Allaah.

By the inherent nature (fitrah) with which he is born, man instinctively recognizes the enormity of this action and the seriousness of this sin, and the ugliness of this crime. The sound human nature which believes in pure Tawheed does not approve of these satanic practices.

All the Muslims are unanimously agreed that it is obligatory to respect and venerate the words of Allaah, and to protect them from faults and shortcomings.

The Qur'aan is the word of Allaah and is one of His attributes. Allaah still speaks whenever He wills. This is what is indicated by the Qur'aan and Sunnah, and this was the view of the imaams of Islam.

Mocking the words and Book of Allaah, or trying to undermine their sanctity and respect, is blatant kufr - no one would dispute that. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"If you ask them (about this), they declare: 'We were only talking idly and joking.' Say: 'Was it at Allaah, and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?'

Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed..."

[al-Tawbah 9:65-66]

This aayah clearly states that those who mock Allaah, His Signs or His Messenger are kaafirs, regardless of whether they regard that as being permissible or not. Simply making fun of them is apostasy from Islam (riddah), according to the consensus of the Muslims, even if the person did not really intend to mock them but was "only" joking or trying to be funny.

Those people were guilty of kufr who said of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and his companions, "We have never seen any people who love their stomachs more or tell more lies or are more cowardly in battle than these Qur'aan-readers." This was narrated by Ibn Jareer in his Tafseer (10/172) with a jayyid isnaad via Hishaam ibn Sa'd from Zayd ibn Aslam from 'Abd-Allaah ibn 'Umar, who said: "During the campaign of Tabook, a man said in a gathering, 'We have never seen any people who love their stomachs more or tell more lies or are more cowardly in battle than these Qur'aan-readers.' Another man who was present said, 'You are lying, and you are a hypocrite. I will most certainly tell the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about this. He conveyed that to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and Qur'aan was revealed.'" Then 'Abd-Allaah ibn 'Umar said: "I saw him hanging on to the saddle-bag of the camel of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), stumbling on the rocks and saying, 'O Messenger of Allaah, we were only talking idly and joking!' and the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was saying, 'Was it at Allaah, and His Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking? Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed!'"

The apparent meaning of the aayah is that they were believers prior to that, but then they became kaafirs by mocking that which they knew that it was haraam to mock, but they did not think that this was kufr.

The same is also true of those who begin their songs with a mawwaal (poem in colloquial language) which starts with the singing of some verses from the Qur'aan. They have taken the verses of the Holy Qur'aan for singing, entertainment and amusement. This is one of the most serious forms of belittling the Qur'aan and mocking its sanctity.

The ummah is agreed that the one who belittles or mocks the Qur'aan or any part of it is a kaafir. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"Verily, this (the Qur'aan) is the Word that separates (the truth from falsehood, and commands strict laws for mankind to cut the roots of evil).

And it is not a thing for amusement"[al-Taariq 86:13-14]

Anyone who takes any part of the Qur'aan for amusement, singing, dancing or entertainment has taken it for amusement and play, and Allaah warn such people of a humiliating torment:

"And when he learns something of Our Verses (this Qur'aan), he makes them a jest. For such there will be a humiliating torment

[al-Jaathiyah 45:9]

"And it will be said: 'This Day We will forget you as you forgot the Meeting of this Day of yours. And your abode is the Fire, and there is none to help you.'

This, because you took the Revelations of Allaah (this Qur'aan) in mockery, and the life of the world deceived you. So this Day, they shall not be taken out from there (Hell), nor shall they be returned to the worldly life (so that they repent to Allaah, and beg His Pardon for their sins)"

[al-Jaathiyah 45:34-35]

Al-Qaadi 'Iyaad (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in Sharh al-Shifaa' (2/549): "Know that whoever belittles the Qur'aan or the Mus-haf, or any part thereof, or insults them, or denies it, or even one letter or aayah thereof, or disbelieves in it or in any part thereof or in anything that is clearly stated therein, whether it be a ruling or a story, or he knowingly affirms something that is denied therein, or denies something that is affirmed therein, or he doubts any of that, then he is a kaafir according to the scholars, by consensus. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

'And verily, it is an honourable well‑fortified respected Book (because it is Allaah's Speech, and He has protected it from corruption).

Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or behind it, (it is) sent down by the All‑Wise, Worthy of all praise (Allaah)'

[Fussilat 41:41-42]."

Shaykh al-'Allaamah Abu Bakr Muhammad al-Husayni al-Husni al-Shaafa'i said in his book Kifaayat al-Akhyaar (494): "With regard to committing kufr by one's actions, this may take the form of such things as prostrating to idols or to the sun or moon; throwing the mus-haf onto a rubbish-heap; practising magic which involves worshipping the sun; offering sacrifices to idols; or making fun of one of the names of Allaah, or His command or His warning; or reciting Qur'aan to the beat of the daff (hand-drum)..."

Using the verses of the Qur'aan for singing and putting musical accompaniment to them is a worse act of kufr and a greater sin than reciting the Qur'aan to the beat of a daff.

The great scholar Shaykh al-Bahooti al-Hanbali (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in his book al-Rawd al-Murabba' Sharh Zaad al-Mustaqna' (p. 282), in the chapter on the rulings concerning apostates: "... or he blatantly says or does something to mock the religion, or shows disrespect towards the Qur'aan, or does not regard it as sacred..."

The great scholar Ibn Farhoon al-Maaliki (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in his book Tabsirat al-Hukaam (2/214): "Whoever belittles the Qur'aan or any part of it, or denies it or one letter of it, or disbelieves in any part of it, or knowingly affirms something that it denies or denies something that it affirms, or doubts any part of it, is a kaafir according to the consensus of the scholars."

The person who approves of their kufr and their belittling of the word of Allaah and His Book is a kaafir like them. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Qur'aan) that when you hear the Verses of Allaah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allaah will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell"

BEWARE of two very serious matters:

Firstly: the punishment and vengeance of Allaah for those who mock or belittle His words. It was narrated in Saheeh al-Bukhaari (3617) via 'Abd al-Waarith, 'Abd al-'Azeez told us from Anas (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he said: "A man was a Christian, then he became a Muslim. He read al-Baqarah and Aal 'Imraan, and he used to write things down for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Then he went back to Christianity and he used to say, 'Muhammad does not know anything except that which I wrote for him.' Then Allaah caused him to die, and they buried him, but the following morning the earth had thrown him out. They said, 'This is the work of Muhammad and his companions, because he left them, so they dug him up.' So they dug a deep hole for him, but in the morning the earth had thrown him out again. They said, 'This is the work of Muhammad and his companions, because he left them, so they dug him up.' So they dug another hole for him, making it as deep as they could, but the following morning the earth had throw him out again. Then they knew that it was not people who were throwing him out, so they left him where he was."

(Narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh, 2781, via Sulaymaan ibn al-Mugheerah from Thaabit al-Banaani from Anas, who said: "There was among us a man from Banu al-Najjaar..." and he mentioned the same story, at the end of which he said, "so they abandoned him."

Secondly: leaving this crime without punishment. For the Qur'aan is the word of Allaah, and it has a special status and a special place in the hearts of the Muslims. So belittling its sanctity and making fun of any part of it is a serious crime and a major sin.

If the most evil elements of humanity in the twentieth century can come and mock the sanctity of the words of Allaah or one of His attributes, and make them like the words of any human beings or the words of the dregs of humanity, and use it for singing, amusement and entertainment, and they can get away with that and not have any punishment or ruling of Allaah carried out against them, then this will open the door for people to mess about with the sharee'ah and to insult the Divine Essence and the attributes of Allaah, and to show disrespect towards the greatest things in which the Muslims take pride.

If worldly punishments such as imprisonment etc. are imposed upon those who slander rulers and governors whether they deserve it or not, but those who make fun of the Book of the Lord of the Worlds and any of His Attributes are not taken to task, this is one of the most serious and shameful of major sins.

I am afraid that by turning a blind eye these people who mock the signs of Allaah, the modern governments are sinking to the level described by the poet:

"When someone slanders the leader, he is taken to prison,

but when someone slanders Allaah, we tell him that people are free to speak as they wish."

In that case there can be no joy in a life lived under the shadow of corruption, when things have gone out of control.

Thank you soooo much for this. I've been getting these "funny" videos on whatsapp for ages. Even from respectable people who probably don't realise it's so dangerous. Selling their Imaan and dissing Islam for a few laughs. I wish if everyone knew about this. I will reply to those videos on whatsapp with a link to this page. But the link is too long so I created this using bitly bit.ly/MD52xZ let's put a stop to this mick taking that can take a person out of the fold of Islam as proved in the above verses. Shukran

What are the conditions for joking to be permissible?

Praise be to Allaah.

1 - It not should not involve any element of making fun of Islam.

That is one of the things that nullify a person's Islam.

Make no excuse; you disbelieved after you had believed"

[al-Tawbah 9:65-66]

Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: "Making fun of Allaah, His Signs and His Messenger is kufr (disbelief) and the one who does that disbelieves thereby after he had believed."

The same applies to making fun of some Sunnahs, an action which is widespread, such as making fun of the beard and the hijaab, or of shortening one's garment, etc.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn 'Uthaymeen said in al-Majmoo' al-Thameen, 1/63: "The matters of Divine Lordship, Prophethood, Revelation and religion are sacred matters which are to be venerated. It is not permissible for anyone to show disrespect towards them, whether by mocking them to make others laugh or to poke fun at them. If anyone does that, he is a kaafir, because this is indicative of his disrespect towards Allaah and His Messengers, Books and Laws. Whoever does that has to repent to Allaah for what he has done, because that is a kind of hypocrisy. So he has to repent to Allaah, seek His forgiveness, mend his ways and develop fear of Allaah, veneration towards Him and love for Him in his heart. And Allaah is the Source of strength.

2 - The jokes should only be truthful.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Woe to the one who tells lies to make people laugh, woe to him." (Narrated by Abu Dawood).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, warning against this kind of behaviour which some jokers are accustomed to: "A man may say something to make his companions laugh, and he will fall into Hell as far as the Pleiades because of it." (Narrated by Ahmad).

3 - Not scaring people

Especially those who are very energetic or strong, or who are holding a weapon or a piece of iron, or who take advantage of the darkness and people's weakness to use that as a means of scaring and alarming them. It was narrated that Abu Layla said: "The companions of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said that they were travelling with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and a man among them fell asleep. Some of them got a rope and tied him up, and he got scared. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: 'It is not permissible for a Muslim to frighten another Muslim.'" (Narrated by Abu Dawood).

4 - Mocking people by winking behind their backs or making snide remarks

People vary in their ability to understand things and in their characters. Some weak people, those who like to make fun of others and wink behind their backs or make snide remarks, may find a person to be an object of fun for them and the butt of their jokes - Allaah forbid. Allaah has forbidden such behaviour in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

"O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former. Nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former. Nor defame one another, nor insult one another by nicknames. How bad is it to insult one's brother after having Faith"

[al-Hujuraat 49:11]

Ibn Katheer said in his Tafseer: "What is meant here is looking down on them, belittling them or making fun of them. This is haraam and is counted as one of the characteristics of the hypocrites."

Some people make fun of a person's appearance, manner of walking or vehicle. But there is the fear that Allaah may requite the one who makes fun of others because of that. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, "Do not express malicious joy towards your brother's misfortune, for Allaah may have mercy on him and you may be stricken by the thing you made fun of." (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi).

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) warned against mocking people and hurting their feelings, because that is the path that leads to hatred and grudges. He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim, he does not wrong him, let him down or look down upon him. Taqwa (piety, awareness and fear of Allaah) is here" - and he pointed to his chest three times - "It is sufficient evil for a man to look down upon his Muslim brother. Every Muslim is sacred to another Muslim, his blood, his property and his honour." (Narrated by Muslim)

5 - The jokes should not be excessive.

Some people joke too much and it becomes a habit for them. This is the opposite of the serious nature which is the characteristic of the believers. Joking is a break, a rest from ongoing seriousness and striving; it is a little relaxation for the soul. 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Azeez (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: "Fear joking, for it is folly and generates grudges."

Imaam al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: "The kind of joking which is forbidden is that which is excessive and persistent, for it leads to too much laughter and hardening of the heart, it distracts from remembrance of Allaah, and it often leads to hurt feelings, generates hatred and causes people to lose respect and dignity. But whoever is safe from such dangers, then that which the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to do is permissible for him."

6 - Acknowledging people's status

Some people may joke with everyone indiscriminately, but scholars and the elderly have rights, so you have to be aware of the character of the person with whom you are dealing. You should not joke with ignorant people, fools or people whom you do not know.

With regard to this matter, 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Azeez said: "Fear joking, for it undermines chivalry and manliness."

Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqaas said: "Set a limit to your jokes, for going to extremes makes you lose respect and incites the foolish against you."

7 - The amount of joking should be like the amount of salt in one's food.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "Do not laugh too much, for laughing too much deadens the heart." (Saheeh al-Jaami', 7312)

'Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: "Whoever laughs too much or jokes too much loses respect, and whoever persists in doing something will be known for it."

So beware of joking, for it "causes a person to lose face after he was thought of as respectable, and it brings him humiliation after esteem."

8 - It should not involve backbiting.

This is a foul sickness. Some people think that they can talk about others, and say that this is by way of joking, but it is included in the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), "[Backbiting is] your mentioning about your brother something that he dislikes." (Narrated by Muslim)

9 - Choosing appropriate times for joking.

Such as when you are taking a trip in the countryside, or attending a party in the evening, or when meeting a friend, you may relax and enjoy some gentle anecdotes, nice stories or light jokes, in order to generate friendship and instill happiness in the heart; or when family problems are taking their toll and one of the spouses is angry, some gentle joking may relieve the tension and cheer people up.

O Muslim,

A man said to Sufyaan ibn 'Uyaynah (may Allaah be pleased with him), "Joking is not right, it is to be denounced." He replied, "Rather it is Sunnah, but only for those who know how to do it and do it at the appropriate time."

Nowadays, although the ummah needs to increase the love between its individual members and to relieve itself of boredom, it has gone too far with regard to relaxation, laughter and jokes. This has become a habit which fills their gatherings and wastes their time, so their lives are wasted and their newspapers are filled with jokes and trivia.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much." In Fath al-Baari it says: "What is meant by knowledge here has to do with the might of Allaah and His vengeance upon those who disobey Him, and the terrors that occur at death, in the grave and on the Day of Resurrection).

Muslim men and women have to be inclined to choose righteous and serious friends in their lives, who will help them to make good use of their time and strive for the sake of Allaah with seriousness and steadfastness, good and righteous people whose example they can follow. Bilaal ibn Sa'd said: "I saw them [the Sahaabah] jokingly pretending to fight over some goods, and laughing with one another, but when night came they were like monks."

Ibn 'Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) was asked, "Did the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) laugh?" He said, "Yes, and the faith in their hearts was like mountains."

So you have to follow the example of such people, who were knights by day and monks (i.e., devoted worshippers) by night.

May Allaah keep us, you and our parents safe on the Day of the Greatest Terror, those to whom the call will go out on that great Day:

"Enter Paradise, no fear shall be on you, nor shall you grieve"

[al-A'raaf 7:49 - interpretation of the meaning]

May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad and all his family and companions.

By 'Abd al-Malik al-Qaasim.
