Nobel Peace Prize winner "Tawakkul Karman," when asked about her Hijab by journalists and how it is not proportionate with her level of intellect and education, replied:

“Human being in early times was almost naked, and as his intellect evolved he started wearing clothes. What I am today and what I’m wearing represents the highest level of thought and civilization that human being has achieved, and is not regressive. It’s the removal of clothes again that is a regression back to the ancient times.''

The journalist statement is very true, the more a person gains knowledge and implements it, the more civilised they become in both character and nature which reflects on the outer appearance.

How I Came to Love the Veil

By Yvonne Ridley
Sunday, October 22, 2006; Page B01

LONDON

I used to look at veiled women as quiet, oppressed creatures -- until I was captured by the Taliban.

In September 2001, just 15 days after the terrorist attacks on the United States, I snuck into Afghanistan, clad in a head-to-toe blue burqa, intending to write a newspaper account of life under the repressive regime. Instead, I was discovered, arrested and detained for 10 days. I spat and swore at my captors; they called me a "bad" woman but let me go after I promised to read the Koran and study Islam. (Frankly, I'm not sure who was happier when I was freed -- they or I.)

Back home in London, I kept my word about studying Islam -- and was amazed by what I discovered. I'd been expecting Koran chapters on how to beat your wife and oppress your daughters; instead, I found passages promoting the liberation of women. Two-and-a-half years after my capture, I converted to Islam, provoking a mixture of astonishment, disappointment and encouragement among friends and relatives.

Now, it is with disgust and dismay that I watch here in Britain as former foreign secretary Jack Straw describes the Muslim nikab -- a face veil that reveals only the eyes -- as an unwelcome barrier to integration, with Prime Minister Tony Blair, writer Salman Rushdie and even Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi leaping to his defense.

Having been on both sides of the veil, I can tell you that most Western male politicians and journalists who lament the oppression of women in the Islamic world have no idea what they are talking about. They go on about veils, child brides, female circumcision, honor killings and forced marriages, and they wrongly blame Islam for all this -- their arrogance surpassed only by their ignorance.

These cultural issues and customs have nothing to do with Islam. A careful reading of the Koran shows that just about everything that Western feminists fought for in the 1970s was available to Muslim women 1,400 years ago. Women in Islam are considered equal to men in spirituality, education and worth, and a woman's gift for childbirth and child-rearing is regarded as a positive attribute.

When Islam offers women so much, why are Western men so obsessed with Muslim women's attire? Even British government ministers Gordon Brown and John Reid have made disparaging remarks about the nikab -- and they hail from across the Scottish border, where men wear skirts.

When I converted to Islam and began wearing a headscarf, the repercussions were enormous. All I did was cover my head and hair -- but I instantly became a second-class citizen. I knew I'd hear from the odd Islamophobe, but I didn't expect so much open hostility from strangers. Cabs passed me by at night, their "for hire" lights glowing. One cabbie, after dropping off a white passenger right in front of me, glared at me when I rapped on his window, then drove off. Another said, "Don't leave a bomb in the back seat" and asked, "Where's bin Laden hiding?"

Yes, it is a religious obligation for Muslim women to dress modestly, but the majority of Muslim women I know like wearing the hijab, which leaves the face uncovered, though a few prefer the nikab. It is a personal statement: My dress tells you that I am a Muslim and that I expect to be treated respectfully, much as a Wall Street banker would say that a business suit defines him as an executive to be taken seriously. And, especially among converts to the faith like me, the attention of men who confront women with inappropriate, leering behavior is not tolerable.

I was a Western feminist for many years, but I've discovered that Muslim feminists are more radical than their secular counterparts. We hate those ghastly beauty pageants, and tried to stop laughing in 2003 when judges of the Miss Earth competition hailed the emergence of a bikini-clad Miss Afghanistan, Vida Samadzai, as a giant leap for women's liberation. They even gave Samadzai a special award for "representing the victory of women's rights."

Some young Muslim feminists consider the Hijab and the nikab political symbols, too, a way of rejecting Western excesses such as binge drinking, casual sex and drug use. What is more liberating: being judged on the length of your skirt and the size of your surgically enhanced breasts, or being judged on your character and intelligence? In Islam, superiority is achieved through piety -- not beauty, wealth, power, position or sex.

I didn't know whether to scream or laugh when Italy's Prodi joined the debate last week by declaring that it is "common sense" not to wear the nikab because it makes social relations "more difficult." Nonsense. If this is the case, then why are cellphones, landlines, e-mail, text messaging and fax machines in daily use? And no one switches off the radio because they can't see the presenter's face.

Under Islam, I am respected. It tells me that I have a right to an education and that it is my duty to seek out knowledge, regardless of whether I am single or married. Nowhere in the framework of Islam are we told that women must wash, clean or cook for men. As for how Muslim men are allowed to beat their wives -- it's simply not true. Critics of Islam will quote random Koranic verses or hadith, but usually out of context. If a man does raise a finger against his wife, he is not allowed to leave a mark on her body, which is the Koran's way of saying, "Don't beat your wife, stupid."

It is not just Muslim men who must reevaluate the place and treatment of women. According to a recent National Domestic Violence Hotline survey, 4 million American women experience a serious assault by a partner during an average 12-month period. More than three women are killed by their husbands and boyfriends every day -- that is nearly 5,500 since 9/11.

Violent men don't come from any particular religious or cultural category; one in three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime, according to the hotline survey. This is a global problem that transcends religion, wealth, class, race and culture.

But it is also true that in the West, men still believe that they are superior to women, despite protests to the contrary. They still receive better pay for equal work -- whether in the mailroom or the boardroom -- and women are still treated as sexualized commodities whose power and influence flow directly from their appearance.

And for those who are still trying to claim that Islam oppresses women, recall this 1992 statement from the Rev. Pat Robertson, offering his views on empowered women: Feminism is a "socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians."

Now you tell me who is civilized and who is not.

this is the reply of maulana a.s. desai of the majlis regarding this lady's comment:
ASSALAMU ALAIKUM

2 Rajab 1433 (23 May 2012)
Your e-mail dated 21 May 2012 refers.

The confused moronness is unable to distinguish between right and
left, darkness and light, hence she disgorged her stupid statement
about intelligence being the subject of some stupid process of
evolution hallucinated by Darwin, the ape-man. The first ancient man
was Hadhrat Aadam (alayhis salaam) who never wandered around the
earth naked as the stupid woman contends.

The fact that she hankered after a kuffaar prize doled out by the
western enemies of Islam displays the level of her mental serfom and
intellectua retrogression which is the consequence of brains having
been colonized by the western kuffaar. Thus, these mental serfs of the
western cult of life see honour and respect in even the najaasat of
Americans and Europeans.. The misguided aunt searches for honour at
the feet of the western kuffaar whilst Allah Ta'ala castigates her in
the Qur'aan:
"Those (such as this moronness) who take the kuffaar as
friends besides the
Mu'mineen - what do they seek honour by them? Verily, all
Izzat (honour and
respect) belongs to only Allah." (An-Nisaa', aayat 139)
She is ashamed of her professed religion, viz. Islam, hence she opted
to speak in stupid riddles to appease the kufr palates of the kuffaar
journalists.

Allah Ta'ala did not evolve Insaan from the darwinian baboon as the
stupid woman alludes. Her claim of man's intellect developing by a
stupid process of baboonian evolution displays her baboonian brains.
Man's intellect (Aql) was at the highest and most perfect level of
perfection when it was divinely instilled into him sponataneous with
his coming to life with the entry of the Rooh.

The perfection of the First Man's intellect dumfounded even the
Malaaikah, including Hadhrat Jibraeel (alayhis salaam). The perfection
and superiority of Hadhrat Aadam's intelligence on the occasion when
he superbly answered Allah's questions constrained all the Angels to
proclaim: "Glory unto You (O Allah!). We have no knowledge except
what You have taught us." Furthermore, when Allah commanded Hadhrat
Aadam (alayhis salaam): "O Aadam! Inform them of their names." When
he had informed them of their names, Allah said: 'Did I not tell you
that verily I know the hidden things of the heavens and the earth...."
(Names in the context of the aayat refer to the knowledge of all
things created by Allah Ta'ala.)
Then to honour Aadam (alayhis salaam) by virtue of the perfection
of his intelligence, Allah Ta'ala commanded the Angels: "Prostrate for
Aadam. Then they (the Angels) except Iblees prostrated."
To cut a llong story short, this stupid woman is a follower of
Iblees, hence she disgorged her rubbish about man's intelligence
being the subject Darwinian baboonian evolution. Whilst women have
been created naaqisaatul aql ( intellectually deficient), it appears
that the moronness has demeaned her brains by transfering her
naturally deficient Aql into her heels.

I don't fully agree with the above answer.

Reasons:

She says "Almost". Did Adam (as) and his wife cover themselves with leaves at first? Yes!

Adam (as) was given intelligence, that does not mean others too were highly intellectual beings. Take his son for example and his offspring, first murder, music, Saturday nite raves etc all started back then, how intelligent were they to obey shaytan in the early ages.

She doesn't mention evolution, she says the "intellect evolved" Today we have cars, mobiles etc for this same intellectual reasons.

Allah knows best who this woman is, I just found her response to a particular question very interesting.

I also don't support the language used.

Jazakallahu khair.

I think its in response to an email as stated above.

I really don't understand why people post behind the veil, and try to confuse others, (maybe not intentionally).

This is becoming a bad habit maybe admin will re consider his thread about letting guests post.

Oldest woman in world refuses to remove scarf

Publication time: 3 February 2013, 14:41

The head scarf was the only hindrance in the way for the oldest woman in the world to enter the so-called Guinness World Records.

124-year-old Palestinian Maryam Hamdan Ammash, her sons and grandsons refused to meet the condition of the Guinness team for the aged woman to take off her head scarf and appear on TV.

Maryam's family members said that their grandmother who has performed the Haj (Pilgrimage) five times in her life and performed Umrah ten times refused to commit a sinful act even for getting eternal with entering the Guinness World Records.

"There have been serious discussions about Maryam entering the Guinness World Records breaking the record of the French Jeanne Louise Calment who lived 122 and a half years. A team of the Guinness team visited Maryam and her family last March to this end", said Mahdi Helmi Ammash, a grandson of Maryam in an interview with Gulf News.

"Armed with official documents including her birth certificate, identity card and other documents, we will not give up our grandmother's right to enter the Guinness World Records for the longest human lifespan even after her death," he said.

Maryam died last Saturday after she lived for 124 years and scores of people from around the world are attending her ongoing condolence session held in her home village of Jisr Al Zarqa'a, near Haifa of the 1948 areas.

Maryam who held a Turkish birth certificate and an identity card which clearly stated that the woman was born in 1888, became undoubtedly the oldest woman in the world.

"This fact is beyond doubt and that all officials who paid visits to my grandmother have confirmed it and this is documented with the family", said Mahdi.

Maryam had ten children, the youngest of whom died a long while ago. With four sons and five daughters who survived, she had hundreds of descendants, estimated at 600.

"Maryam's grandsons were grandfathers when she died as the grandmother of four generations," he said.

"Maryam's relationship with her children, grandchildren and their children and grandchildren was astonishing, knowing them one by one and following their lives in details," he said.

"The wise Maryam, despite her old age, was the spiritual leader to all her family members who trusted her views and followed them almost blindly," he stressed.

The woman was known in her village to be totally focused and balanced and she acted as a paediatrician who provided medical treatment for the newly born and infants.

"We keep instruments which Maryam carefully kept since the Turkish rule in Palestine to treat the little ones", he said, adding that visitors from around the 1948 areas visited Maryam seeking treatment which she provided for free.

The aged Maryam was an active woman despite her years and known to be a social entity who visited people on all their occasions.

When a representative of the Guinness told her that they can make her a well-known personality, she answered with a question - "And will that make me happy?"

Representative, with a little hesitation, replied that probably it would make happy her and her family.

She asked a second question:

"How old are you?" To which he replied - 43.

She smiled and said - "And most of all, you are not a Muslim ...?"

Surprised man asked why these issues may be of any importance and what she wanted to say?

To which Maryam replied.

- "You are old enough to distinguish between what is right and what is not. But you are not a Muslim. That means either you are too small to distinguish truth from delusion, or you are an imbecile. Because only a child or imbecile would believe that it will make him/her happy to be glorified among the same mortals like himself. When he risks being thrown into shame in the eyes of the Creator.

So what should I choose - the woman said - to be glorious amongst those themselves are inglorious or to be glorious amongst the lucky owners of the Contentment of the Creator, me, you, him and all those whom you represent"?

Guinness representative did not know what to say.

Maryam said:

- "Go away and grow up to start thinking if you do not have the answer. And I promise not to die until you get back - she joked at the end".

The most surprising fact was that the man embraced Islam in 7 months afterwards. And after another 4 months Maryam Hamdan Ammash died.

It is quite a mystery - why Guinness Book needed the old Muslim woman to remove the scarf

In 1916 Vienna, Austria the King, Charles I presented his wife entirely veiled as shown at a funeral. The Queen was entirely covered because as the Queen she was not to be looked by any man. She was sacred and precious. All Muslim women are sacred and precious, like a Queen. Is this a barbaric culture?
