AsalaamsWW,

There are many governments around the world (muslim, non-muslim, arab, nonarab etc) that do zulm on their own people - either physically, mentally or by other means. There are upright scholars (i.e. scholar who are known to NOT be firmly in the pockets of such governments) from within those same countries with those tyrannical governments that on occasions share platforms with those officials/ministers from those very governments or attend functions/events under the governments name thereby directly or indirectly giving some sort of legitimacy to those rulers and their 'ways'.

Is this appropriate - if so why? If this isnt then also why not?

Jazakallah, I understand. But at the end of the day, thats what it comes down to. Its either the money (fame) or the fear of going to prison. A scholar should stand up for the truth, otherwise whats the point.

If Scholars are ready to represent the corrupt, what will us laymen do? Who would be better, a corrupt scholar or an honest layman. Personally, I thank Allah for not making me a corrupt scholar rather he has made me a lay person who is atleast trying to be honest.

Why is there always so much scholar bashing here? It never used to be like that. And the scholar bashing always commences with "with respect"

We know ulamaa-u-soo' exist and they're mentioned in Hadeeth too. Every religion has had its version of ulamaa-u-soo'

The question in the first post. I think they are scholars planted by the governments and funded too. They study like it's an apprenticeship. Gaining knowledge as a career and not for Islam
