However, after reading it again, I dont feel satisfied. THe Hadith quoted is a one off situation on the purchase of an animal, fair enough.

However, the Salafi question and Answer with the Hadith are in reference to "Employment".

If I were to walk through a hotel and held the door open for an unknown person, who just happens to be very wealthy, and he tips me, thats different. But if my job was to stand there and open the door for him, I am getting paid and recieving the tip. This is where I see the term Ghulool come in from the salafi point.

Is it possible to send the Salafi post to the Shaykh in Makkah. (copy and paste)

Jazakallah.

Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed those tips, but if its not right then I can give in charity next time rather than leave it in the hands of the tippers who are usauly non Muslim. Although I have been tipped by Muslims too.

Asslamo Allaikum,

Shaykh replied again so I have edited my post and its your turn to asnwer his question. : - )

Jazakullah Khairun

I confirm my love for you for the sake of Allah.

My boss is for tips too, infact, he takes them too.

I like to tell my boss when I've been tipped so that he is aware of it just incase the customer turns around and says, I gave your engineer money on the side.

One day I went on a job and the customer paid cash. (The Cash goes in my boss' pocket, thats his tip for the work we do). This guy is very stingy, he doesnt want to pay the VAT so he pays cash, and on top of that, he haggles alot, anyway he over paid by £10.

I had already left and counted the money in the car. I drove back and told him that he had given £10 extra by accident. Luckily for me, there was another builder there who had witnessed my honesty, so this stingy guy got embarrased and said, "no no, thats for you, its a tip". I was shocked. When I returned to the office and gave my boss the cash, I told him that he tipped me a tenner. My boss said, "I know, he already phoned me". We just laughed, because we know what this guy is really like with money. (By the way, he was Jewish)

Conclusion, My company preffers tips, this proves we did a good job. and for our company, we dont advertise, its purely recommendations. I've been working there for 13 years. That proves how much we get recommended.

This answer is fine for me, but for those who MUST give their tips back to the company like restaurants, is a different case, They would not be allowed to pocket it. They even get taxed on their tips.

Boy am I lucky.

Asslamo Allaikum Brother,

I love you for the sake of Allah (SWT) as well. I have edited and added the Shaykh's last response on the matter.

Please RE-READ the Fatwa of Shaykh Salih Al-Uthaymeen (RA) and it is clear that:

  1. Shaykh (RA) has done Qiyaas and applied logic to STOP the door of this because it may lead to bribes e.g. he says if we open the door to this
  2. Shaykh (RA) has answered this in the context of Saudi (or general Muslim) society where "Bakhsheeh" is a menace

The evidence from Saheeh Bukhari in the case of Sayyidina Jabir (RA) is clear cut that he was paid something ABOBE & BEYOND his share willingly and happily and he accepted.

No its no entirely wrong, but its not correct either in my case. And the case of the questioner is the same as mine. By chance, he (The salafi questioner) and I are both Telecom Engineers. Maybe in his country, if it is Saudi Arabia, then he would need to cautious due to the fear of baksish. But if he is of this country, i.e. UK, then he should get a second opinion.

I dont accept all Salafi Fatwas, but I do read them and learm from them. SOme of their Fatwas do not suit the residents of the UK, and some dont even suit us as Muslims either.

Asslamo Allaikum,

Shaykh Salih Al-Uthaymeen (RA) was Hanbali & a Qadhi (Judge) in the Hanbali Madhab so no his opinion isn't wrong.

May Allah (SWT) give the Shaykh Jannatul-Firdaus (Ameen).

This is a matter of difference of opinion, like we (in the Hanafi Madhab) don't say Ameen loud but we don't label Imam Shaf'ae (RA) & Imam Ahmed Ibn Hanbal (RA) as wrong, either. In this case both of the Scholars have presented their evidence from Saheeh Bukhari so we should follow someone who is an expert in the Hanafi Madhab, that's all

Assalaamu 'alaykum
Fazaile 'Amaal - virtues of the Holy Qur'an - last section of part 2 (hadith 7)

To do with remuneration for teaching Qur'an.

My question is to do with gifts being given by students as a show of appreciation/love. I wonder if there is anything about this on any Q/A sites?

Firstly, Islamic Law and rulings is not a war or a challenge.

Yes, Nabi (saw) took and gave gifts but not as a result of work. It was general. This is about work (tips). Paying attention?

Then, the fact that you say Qur'aan and Hadeeth gives you proof so Hanafi, Maliki etc doesn't matter clearly shows you have not understood Muadh_Khan's post or have no knowledge of Taqleed. I suggest you read up on it here first: www.muftisays.com/forums/77-taqleed-the-straight-path/

Or maybe you're an expert in Qur'aan and Hadeeth? (I apologise if you are) but we mere laymen are not experts and fear making our own understandings of things the way Christians did to their bible and destroyed the religion.

This was a good read all over again.

But just something to think about, (to my self first). Why do we tip and not donate in the name of Allah.

We get some work done or have a delivery made or anything small, we tend to tip, (not me, you must be joking), yet when some one at the door rings the bell and asks for charity, we don't have any spare change.

Is it showing off, is it pride. Does it affect or boost our ego. What ever it is, the intention is wrong so don't expect any pay back.from Allah.

TIP: Keep your intentions purely for Allah and Allah will repay you with even better. (there is no need for inshaAllah here).
