Lets hope it's for the needy as
Quote:
Niyaz in Persian means "needing".

But Sadqah / Zakat covers that .. hmm interesting post.

As far as my knowledge goes (from experiance of being in a barelwee family) This is for FOOD. They pray over it and have certain days for it like 11 Rabiyul Awal etc.

I saw it and just laughed.

What I find is that the perfume bottles are left by those who dont like it.

Have you ever tried one of them?

Many people dont put money in the money box, but they put the bottles as substitutes possibly.

Asslamo Allaikum,

My parents used to cook Halwa every Thursday in Pakistan, do Niyaz and then distirbute it to the poor. I have always liked hot & fresh Halwa so I used to steal and eat it hot BEFORE the Niyaz and boy did I used to get the beats for that when I was a kid  :- )

My neighbours are ahle hadith. When my mum or dad sent a sweet dish to their house, they would refuse at certain times of the year. They would say that they didn't eat niyaz as it was biddah. We would have to tell them that it was a good will gesture from us and not niyaz, which was true anyway.

LOL

I personally know a place where one of the committe members actually order like a dozen perfume bottles and place it for the musalees.

Thats nice of them to put them out.

I was talking to someone about it, he asked me what they would put in the box. He thought they put food / sweet dishes in there. Now that would be funny.
