Exaggerate, What a simple term. We all use this word so often, but what does it really mean.

Well, it is to tell a Lie.

When talking with some one, we allways find our selves exaggerating a lot, Ok, sometimes we say things like "I told you a million times", this is a figure of speech, and not an exaggeration. Let us be carefull as a Muslim cannot Lie.

There are plenty of Hadith that tell us not to lie, yet we give it a different name, May Allah protect me and you from this deception.

Another term that is often used is, "I was only joking!"

We treat lies as being trivial. However we are told, "Allah's Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) did not hate anything more than lying."(Ahmed)

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was once asked "Can a believer be a coward?" He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied "Yes." and then was asked "Can a believer be a miser?" and the reply was "Yes." (i,e, these things might happen). The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was then asked, "Can a believer be a liar?" The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied "NO! A believer can never be a liar." (al-Muwatta)

Furthermore, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, "Truth leads to piety and piety leads to paradise... Lying leads to transgression and transgression leads to the hellfire." (Bukhari)

As we know that one lie leads to another ten lies, which leads to bad actions. Remember you can lie and think that you have got away with it but on the day of Judgement your hands, tongue and feet will bear testimony against you and the truth will come out.

On a lighter note, I usually end up joking with the figure of speeches, مَاشَآءَٱللَّه, like;

1)Person: Choro na (leave it, it has another meaning; drop it)

Me:*Drop something, if not fragile*/*Dares to drop something fragile*/*if nothing on hand, a reply of: when was I holding you?*

2) Person: aur sunao (and what else, it has a word to word meaning of; I want to hear the word 'aur' from you.)

Me:aur...

3)On the phone; aur kia ho ra hai (and what's happening)

Me:talking to you

4)What's up?

Me: hair.

Wassalam.
