Assalamu Alaykum,

I am typing this post in hope that everyone who have been gathering email addresses from other forwarded emails just to mass email them reads this.

I will not mention who is doing this or what topics they email about. This is a general concern and request.

To the bulk mailers:

Firstly, please have some respect for people's privacy. If they did not request to be emailed, DO NOT email them. Although it might be for an ISLAMIC cause, the email is still known as 'junk mail'. Not because of what it contains but because of the method they were sent.

If you wish to send bulk emails, do it professionally. Have a website, give a subscription option and if they want to be emailed, they will subscribe.

Otherwise you are in clear words forcing your email into their inbox. There have been hundreds of posts, arguments, unislamic quarrelling, hurtful messages to one another while accusing sisters of 'mingling' with brothers on this site (Astaghfirullah). Yet I find the SAME brothers mass mailing a bunch of sisters as well as brothers making all the email addresses visible to each recipient. Worse, they mass email the opposite gender despite their arguments from a personal email address (hotmail, msn, yahoo, gmail etc). If hypocrisy is too harsh of a word to assign here, please let me know what other word can be used in this case?

This is growing by the day. Before the emails were limited, now it's a daily problem. [email protected] email address had to be removed due to this problem. Now the replacement email address is being flushed into public along with hundreds of other email addresses.

To all the mass mailers, please have some dignity, professionalism, respect of peoples time and privacy, respect for the contents of the emails and mostly, respect for yourselves.

If anyone finds the above offensive, please think twice why you are feeling offended and for those who understand and accept, may Allah reward you.

No one should doubt any individuals if they have received similar emails. My target audience of this message is not any single person, but everyone who have resorted to this method of Da'wah. My concerns in this matter is not light, I truly believe these actions are wrong.

The title of this topic 'Oh who cares, it's for a good cause!' was indirectly stating that even if it's Islamic, it just does not make it right.

Wassalam

Had similar problem last year, when my personal email was spread from one person to another until people i never knew started sending emails. Sent a polite notice to all not to copy and paste email addresses, as it is a sinful action and an extreme act against islamic etiquettes.

To safeguard the privacy of recipients on my personal mailing list i have since started sending multiple recipients as BCC, (blind copy) which does not allow other recipients to see each others email addresses.

a very good practice.

Update: Due to this mornings mass email, I have already received 3 more from unknown people. All with the same forward list and regarding Islamic activities, events or work. If this continues, I will have to list the email addresses here so they can manually be blacklisted by everyone. Consequently, if they do not learn, we can all email the entire list pointing to this topic.

Currently, there is a count of at least 80 bulk emails a month from a number of email addresses. My concern is for everyone.

I really do pray this decreases. It's sad because important or worthwhile emails will be ignored in future because of this.

I am so glad someone has brought this up because of this problem i have had to change my email address on numerous occasions. And because the email does tend to be of a islamic nature you really don't want to say anything to anybody......it's when chain letters begin to start that we don't know what to do!

May Allah bless us all with hidayat inshaAllah Ameen

Salam,

I've received one request to display a blacklist of email addresses so many people can email them to let them know they are are wasting peoples time.

Please take out a minute to email the following people with the following:

Quote:
Please do not spam Muslims. Allaah will question every second wasted and you are a huge means of valuable time being wasted. You will be held accountable on the day of Judgement for wasting our time. Allaah is witness that I reminded you of the importance of time.

We are not careless Kuffar, if millions of Kuffar spam, it don't mean we stoop to their level. Please read www.muftisays.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3669 to help you understand why you are receiving this email from me.

Wassalam

Although it is a good way to go about, blaclisting is it not better to not do it?

Reason being, do we want to be from those who openly announce the faults of others? Can we not just have sabr and deal with the people themselves on an individual level rather than post email addresses here.

Correct me if i am wrong in thinking this way.

You're not wrong at all. I agree with the above post too.

I'll explain my reason...

Alhamdulillah I do a lot of things in the day. Muftisays.com is just one and i've changed the site email address twice. To run a service to help people is difficult enough without receiving an average of 40 junk emails per day. Not only does it slow down the server with connections, space, deleting... it also takes up a lot of my time just deleting. Allah is witness that the time i've wasted on freeing space of emails on the server could have been spent adding new features, fixing little errors or adding more contents to the site.

I've sent emails to them myself (Muslims only) but they do not reply, they send more. Only one person (a member of this site) replied back to me apologizing and also stopped sending me bulk emails (May Allah reward him).

I've already put up with it for 3 years. I will now use the resource of this site to try and stop this. If they reply to me and guarantee they will stop, I will remove their email address from this topic. What they are doing is not really a sin, but it can become a sin if they over do it or do not stop upon asking. It's easy to say have Sabr, however, it's upon their doings that i've acted in this manner. Believe me, I've tried a few approaches, Allah forgive me if this is pushing it but going nuts every day with a huge list of emails makes this measure seem very light.

I just want them to stop doing this.

Also, it is only upon a request that i've gone ahead with it otherwise the above email address was already emailed last week and I asked them to stop. I've received 3 more mass email from them since.

darululoomlondon receives on average 2400 junk emails per week. They have urgent email, important ones, things to do with government, tax, children, parents etc. Are they that free to sit all day going through emails?

Foodguide had to change their email address too. Who thinks or cares about this? They are providing an amazing service and not expecting anything in return. Should we really stay quiet and let spammers waste everyones time?

As a webmaster and server administrator, I know how much difference inbox space, connections and these little things makes on the load. I also find it helpful to take these measures for everyone. I think about the victims first, not the culprits. I do feel guilty blacklisting them above, if anyone can provide a sure solution to stop this, i'm open to suggestions. Until then, I will have to continue until site owners and individuals get a peace of mind to do their work.

I pray this topic decreases mass emailing inshaAllah.

Jazakallah for this beautiful and informative post. Lots to learn from it.

Alhumdulillah, even though I was sending out mass emails to friends/ family, I have been putting all email adds on the bcc line since near the beginning. I also make sure that they arent always long reads and no more than one email a week is sent to them.

But isn't yours through requests and subscriptions? The main problem which brought this topic about is the grabbing of peoples email addresses from other forwards. Everything you mentioned shows you take a good considerate approach mashaAllah

No they are not mine through requests and subscriptions as such, they are email adresses of people with whom I have had communication with before, ie not just for the purpose of sending out mass emails).

They definitely have not been grabbed from forwarded messages. Like you i detest this sort of thing.
