Assalamu Alaykum,

Masjid e Umer, Walthamstow, will be doing Eid on Saturday insha'Allah.

Quote:
News has come that Saudis announced Eid to be on Friday, Oct 12. Of course, it is impossible to see the moon in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

There have been no positive sightings and therefore Taraweeh salah will commence as normal tonight and Eid will be on Saturday 13th October.

Alhamdulillah we have received endorsement for our Moonsighting criteria from Mufti Taqi Usmani Saheb.

May Allah reward the 'Ulema' of Haq who are slowly but surely speaking up against this great fitnah of blindfollowing the Ru'yah of Hilal from places where there is no Imkaan for it whatsoever in the first place.

Asalam walikum

I have to say the whole agenda of following the uk moon sighting, was to me quite a good thing to come about.

Although just today i had the thought, and i could be completly wrong as i havnt heard the lecture myself as im not from london, and to be honest im not sure if even our local masjid are aware of this new fact that has come to light, so please forgive me for any error i state.

But, as far as i know, nowhere does it state you should follow your country...it states you should follow your nearest muslim country...for us i.e. Morocco.

So ok i agree we shouldnt be following saudi...but according to scripts we shouldnt be following our country either as its not a muslim country.

Please do provide me with evidence if i am wrong, for my knowledge and the benifit of others.

Jazakhallah Wasalaam

insha'allah, by next year or 2, our masaajid will follow morocco.
alhamdulillah, alot of people are realising the facts.

my local great scholar (no name) celebrated eid today. so did Maulana Palanpuri.

our committee needs to get out of their old ways of thinking, their tradition.
with some elders, its their way or the highway.

insha'allah, Allah will grants us all the sense by next Ramadhan.

apparently alot of deoband Scholars endorsed Eid to be on Friday, Mufti Shabbir Ahmed, Shaykh Riyadhul Haq etc...

what is the correct procedure for doing moon sighting?

does every country has to do its own moon sighting?

for what reasons will you be obliged to follow other countries for their moon sighting?

[does UK fall under this shart] ?

as i far as i heard Majority of the European countries did it Friday...

and finally do we not follow the Majority on went to do eid??

WaSalaam.

p.s. i heard their was great controversy amongst the Salafis and Ahlal Hadith [i know they are the same thing, but they do have minor fiqhi differences] regarding this topic [moon sighting]..especially in Birmingham...some of them done Eid Friday and some Saturday...

Wallahi, the deviants and deviated even more..

anyway i hope to gear from any Brother or sister on this issue.

Wa Alaykum Asalaam.

Assalamoalaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuh

I feel quite foolish for commenting on this but after having thought about the whole matter at great length, I feel inclined to share my conclusions ... may they be of benefit, and may Allah forgive me if I am wrong... Aaameeen !

It seems to me that where one think tank is doubtful the other is more correct, and where the other is doubtful, the former is more correct, in that the two issues are:

  • that of the moonsighting procedure
  • that of staying with the jamaa'ah
(masses / majority ... i.e. the issue of local unity)

For this reason, it seems imperative to maintain the tone of gentle wisdom and avoid criticism on either side, whilst simultaneously working towards bringing 'maximum correctness' in both issues together in one think tank by continuing to petition our local masaajid in regard reviving the sunnah of seeking the hilaal locally, in shaa Allah.

Ultimately, we can hardly aspire to global unity if we fail to achieve local unity. To be united requires us to overlook our differences and to be gentle with each other.

Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves. Thou (O Muhammad) seest them bowing and falling prostrate (in worship), seeking bounty from Allah and (His) acceptance. The mark of them is on their foreheads from the traces of prostration. Such is their likeness in the Torah and their likeness in the Gospel - like as sown corn that sendeth forth its shoot and strengtheneth it and riseth firm upon its stalk, delighting the sowers - that He may enrage the disbelievers with (the sight of) them. Allah hath promised, unto such of them as believe and do good works, forgiveness and immense reward.

Fee amaanillah

Wassalaam

Ameen thumma ameen.

I myself did not arise this issue in my household. I followed what my husband followed, which was friday. Maulana did state in one of his lectures that even though the saudi calender is doubtful, we should follow our local community.

Yes, our local muslim country is Morocco. And many people were encouraging the committe to re-think on following Saudi. Breaking such traditions can involve arguements in the masjid. The masjid is Allah house. What to do? Perhaps before next Ramadhan, the committee & members can sit and talk about it in a civil manner & therefore be organised on this whole 'eid' issue before Ramadhan approaches.

Many people are coming to sense on this issue. There is great demand to seek the truth on this whole moon sighting issue.

May Allah guide us all.

I agree completely that there should be no arguments in the masid, but thats where talking like civilised people comes in place. The men of the masjid should realise they are in the house of allah and respect that, but that does not mean we should not break the traditions just to keep a few people happy. At the end of the day, if u miss one fast to keep people happy, what about keeping allah happy by following what he has set out for us...surely by following his comandments lies good virtues?

I Also take into note that yes there is the issue of unity...but thats where we have to take out time and explain to the muslim ummah the reasons of why we have to do it the way its supposed to be done.

Its often that people just dont have the knowledge and its up to us to educate them.

May allah give us all guidence to do what is right and forgive me for anny errors.

P.S. I also think these isues should be sorted out and a decision should be made unanimously in the whole of uk and not just london, as to which country we will be follwing... This should be done prior in advance to ramadhan, to avoid disputes and unnecessary hurts in the month of ramadhan. This would be the true unity when we all muslims celebrate eid on one day together inshallah
