well this is a question that many people ask, well as i went to darul uloom london, i thought i would take this oppurtunity to answeer this question, well firstly their had been many people who have gone to islamic school and mashAllah done alot for the ummah and others have left and became drug dealers, even though they studied in the same place. well firstly i would like to say to any parent thinking of sending their child to a islamic school in this day and age, thinkning that this would be enough for the child to be a good muslim to thinka again, this is not the case how can one expect their child to became pious by getting sent to a school when their upbringing at home was not good, the first stage in the correct upbringing of a child is their home, so we shouldnt think of a islamic school as a "short cut" into giving our children the right upbringing just because we cant be bothered about doing it ourselves as this approach woulf never work no matter where u send your child.
for eg. you want clean something but the place where it returns to (i.e.the home) is flithy, unclean and resembles to islam inside it. how do you expect a child to pray salah when his parents are downstairs watching t.v.
so im not saying that you your child wont become good at a islamic scholl but if you aint doing your part as a parent then dont expect much from your child, as you aint exactly setting the best example.
a islamic school is benificial, as it open the doors of wisdom, but you have to make sure YOU have prepared your child enough to go through the doors of wisdom and retrieve its friuts,
may Allah guide the ummah of tomorrow, ameen
