I'd rather have my brothers watch Islam channel then other channels, to be honest it is hard to resist especially when the only place to sit is your sitting room and the TV is on or on in other peoples house?

One has to resist, I sit on the laptop and my brothers are watching tv it is up to me not to look or not get attracted and also tell them off, Lol )

We are weak in our iman, but how many go to the wrong (haram) sites while on the internet?? Be TV or internet self control is needed?? It's the same for anything which has haram in it, even a newspaper.

I read all the above thread and just wonder not everyone family is as religious or practicing so it's hard for an individual, I sympathise with them.

I don't approve of tv but I'll be a hypocrite go against it as I use to watch it myself once a upon a time? I just pray the way Allah has moved me away from watching tv he does the same to all the Muslim bro and sis?

Just my opinion, please do make dua for me to stay away from the tv temptation ??

I think that in this issue of tvs and media, there can be 2 extremes - rejecting all forms of the technology or embracing it to the point of corrupting oneself.

One of you posted as an argument against such media that we should be 'strict' to the Sunnah and way of Dawah of our Noble Prophet - and anyone who disagrees destroies himself - but that doesn't mean we have to ride camels to work and live in tents.....that is not proper istidlal.

And here is the last quote from Mufti Taqi Uthmaani MashAllah:

"The images appearing on live programs or recorded programs on television are not the pictures in the strict sense envisaged in the Ahadith of the Holy Prophet (Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam) unless they are printed in a durable form on paper or on any other object. But the basic reason why Muslims are advised not to keep TV sets in their homes is that most of the programs broadcast on the TV channels contain impermissible elements." With islam channel there is the problem of women appearing on shows and as a member mentioned previously, we start to admire and like these presenters.

How true this is. Even just with the internet u have to be so careful. I know for a fact that people who don't even have a TV in their house have been lured by shaitaan to watching useless/unislamic, programmes/series/soaps (whatever) on the internet.

The internet was never "clean" it has been used as a social networking tool since its creation.

I would like to stress on Maulana Yasins Post:

Nabi (s), the Sahaabah, Tabi'een and Aslaaf never resorted to comedy or entertainment to spread or revive Islam

If they didnt do it why should we or even how dare we. Considering that many would call it a bidah, Allahu Alum. I'm not an alim.
