Assalamoalaikum Warahmatullah

Brother Ali of ummahfilms is not shia - alhamdulillah, I have found him to be a very sincere brother who affiliates himself with the local ulama.

And Allah is his Judge and ours.

Fee amaanillah

Wassalaam

my husband watches them sometimes. he finds some of them very encouraging.

both the ABOVE BROTHERS, please dont get too carried away with each other. it may be playful sarcasm between you both. (or rather not). but this is not the place for that.

is this a good place to switch topics...i.e on watching 'films'?? (ps - 'films' couldn't b a worse word to describe wot we all mean by this)

i think the fact that Shiekh Riyad ul Haq even accepts an invitation to speak on tv is actually a fatwa in itself. We all know, love and respect the Shiekh fopr his knoweldge and piety, and the fact that his talks r sometimes broadcasted does not and should not detract from the former in the least InshAllah.

and Allah سبحانه وتعالى KNOWS BEST!

yes we shouldnt get carried away. but the previous few times have been sarcasm but accusing me of film watching was a bit more then sarcasm but its all water under the bridge now far as i'm concerned.

The ummah film clips do have their benefits. far as i can see, in my extremly low/weak knowledge on the subject, its done more good then harm - speaking strictly about the ummahfilms clips (and those of the shaikhs and the recent 1st ever TV interview of M.Taqi usmani) NOT TV as a whole.

Just a point regards to channel Islam. I was told by someone (not confirmed but the brothers a good brother sunnah and taqwa wise) which very prominent uk "our" muslak scholar was asked prior to its inception. His views were not totally against it. I think there MAYBE/ARE benefits in it but some programs/things on it are well dodgy i.e. the use of musical sounds as intro's/adverts and the whole issue of sisters.

The argument against it is that if you allow this who knows what it'll lead to in the future even if there's no music and the sisters issue is sorted out. If some scholars allow this now who knows what our scholars of the future will allow - but then if the benefits outweigh the harms??

It may seem clear cut NO TV in ANY circumstance but I remember Mufti Saeed DB saying long ago a lot of ulama were also against the wearing of watches on the wrists by men (metal ones I think??) as it was thought/interpreted to be a type of jewellery but over time that stance came less and less to scholars. Now to ok certain types of TV may be unthinkable now but who knows....???

long discussion I think???

Brov Shining Light also posted that link on Mufti Taqi's DB opinion on TV/pictures's on a previous thread couple months back.

only my opinion but better to abstain from that which is doubtful. If ulamah differ on this then why not be on the safe side and just keep away?

yeah, thats true - the main prob with so called 'islam' channels is the laxness with regards to issues of sisters on tv and purdah...i am witness at the fitnah that can occur - Astagfirullah, once a brother IN THE MOSQUE was chattin to me and then ever so causally started to talk about how he 'liked' a particular presenter on the channel and so and so forth...!!!!

will there ever be a truely ISLAMIC channel???

Allah knows Best.

i think there are other ways of doing da'wah.

many people have got rid of their tv's but if we start to introduce these channels, people will be tempted by shaytan to bring them back in their homes. And then shaytan will slowly whisper to us 'remember all those films and soaps you used to watch?'. Then one thing leads to another.

I agree with all the above but if you knew the name of the scholar "allegedly" consulted as i mentioned before its hard to believe such concerns did not enter his mind also and how he reached the opinion he did (fully bearing in mind the sunnah of the prophet in his sahabah RAD). In some people's opinion he is probably the most high ranking scholar in the UK - but still I refuse to allow the ting in my house!

I think its NOT saying TV's are ok. No. i think the reason behind it is that some ulama have found it unaviodable so have used it out of nessecity rather then willingly - this decision should/must NOT be used by others to justify TV outright as every ulama is unanimous on issues such as dance, hijab, music, singing, mixing of sexes, sex, etc on TV and that things such as drama's, films etc are haraam. But as mentioned above if you allow this people will watch it to begin with but will get tempted to start watching other haraam programs also.???

I agree that the ulamah who allow it for dawah purposes have their reasons. Its just that from a personal view, i feel i am too weak and so am scared that id end up being mislead by shaytan.

tv is hard to resist. especially when it is so widely available. i.e, on the website, in cars, when you go to certain shops, when you want to check your mail, your parents house (LOL) etc.

although i do have a tv (for one mans purpose only), it has not been switched on by him since ramadhan. saying that, he searches the web for bayaans by Anwar Awlaki and watches ummahfilm clips along with other islam related clips on you tube.

so, tv is hard to resist!!

will power can over come this. if we decide to use it!! (jihaad)
