Peircing anywhere on the body other than the ears or nose is haram. But what makes the ears and nose the exception. any hadith or evidence to make them exceptions?

If peircing is regarded as mutilation surely it is regarded as mutilation on the whole body. It can't be an evil thing one place and fine somewhere else. That makes no sense.

You may also find it helpful to refer to the following search results on the muftisays server:

qa.muftisays.com/?search=true&viewpage=search&q=p...

I have also searched on other trusted fiqh sites, but have not as yet understood the reasoning behind the permissibility of ear and nose piercings, but no other.

However, one must bear in mind that being simple laymen/women with limited knowledge and understanding, it is incumbent on us to adopt the stance of humble acceptance when instructed by those with knowledge.

Yes, it is nice to understand the reasoning behind the rulings, but it is unfair for us to expect the scholars to provide that too, when the task of disseminating the rulings alone is immense enough as it is.

good question. i dont know if there is a shar'ee or logical reason or not.

We listen and we obey (sa mitna wa a ta'na). You could also say the same about masah on leather socks as masah is done on the upper part of the sock when logic would say it should be done on the sole of the foot as its this part of the sock that is in touch with the floor the most. They may or may not be a logical explanation of certain practices in shariah. Allah (and sometimes his rasul SAW) knows best and we trust there hikmah/reasons behind the commands of allah (and sunnah of Rasul SAW) over and above our limited logic.

Molana Ashraf Ali Thanwi DB has an ajjeb book on the various reasons/hikmah behind certain practices in salaat, wudu, fast, zakah, etc etc many many things - the books quite good.

in short some things we may understand some things we dont - aIIahs wisdom and power is beyound any of his creations knowledge

Allah can make an elephant go through the tiny hole of a needle without changing the shape or form in any way of the elephant or the hole of the needle. If we think about this using our brain its impossible but allahs power and ability is beyond us. allah can hear the sound of the heart beat of an unborn baby ant in the womb of its mother just as clearly as the sound of thunder and allah can see the heart of that unborn babys heart just as clear as he see his angel gibreal whos head touches the 7th sky and feet the 7th earth. To allah the longest and most complex mathimatical equation possible any human, jinn or angel can think of even if all of the angels, jinns and all of humanity came together to think of one its as easy for him as working out 1 + 1 (even easier then that). In short he is aIIah the aII knowing, the powerful and wise.

What's all the fuss about ?
Even me, an uneducated male, can see that if the nose or the ears are pierced, it DOES beautify a person. If piercing is done on any other part of the body (eyes, tongue, cheeks, belly button etc), it DOES NOT beautify the person.

SAlaam,

Beauty is subjective and people will inevitably differ in their opinions as it boils down to taste.

I know plenty of people who find nose piercings absolutely gross.

My wife and I differ on earrings.

Regards to nose piercings they are aIIowed but there are very sIight differences of opinion with a few uIama here and there. (personaIIy i think sometimes they do beautify and sometimes they compIeteIy do the opposite)

But earings were aIso worn by sahabiat RA so NOTHING can be said against them. If one prefers not to wear them cause (u may find them uncomfortabIe or for heaIth and safety reasons) then so be it but if one has any kind of iII feeIing towards the wearing of it or towards those who wear them then one shouId be carefuI as the sahabiat RA wore them and no shahabah RA or rasuIIaIah SAW himseIf said anything against wearing them. But yes you do get some strange designed earings nowadays which instead of beautifying women makes them Iook.... weII butters.

This is the essence of your question. some things makes sense to us some dont. On top of my masah on socks exampIe another one wouId be in wudu. In wudu you do the masah of your head after washing your hands/arms when sense wouId say it makes more sense in wiping the head when you are washing your face then you wont have to come back to that part of your body again that youve aIready washed - y the merry go round?. i've no idea why but thats the way rasuIIuah SAW performed it (and the whoIe ummah foIIowed) which far as i'm concerned is aII i need.

yes sometimes giving a reason for something in why x is x and z is z makes things more easier to foIIow but aIways having such a mind set can/wiII be exremteIy detrementIe to ones eman/amaaI - Hzt Musa AS story when traveIing with that person who knew more then him is a good exampIe. Ours is a Iimited knowIedge.

Western (and now most modern) systems of teaching education is designed to make us think this way automaticaIIy that we question each and every sentence untiI our minds except a rationaI IogicaI expIanation behind that sentence untiI that does not happen we are taught to reject it - this has now effected us to such an extent that peopIe wiII go through each and every command of aIIah/ayat and sunnah/hadith of rasuIIah SAW to study it in terms of modern day IogicaI rationaIe thought - if it cant be proven in our minds (or made sense of) using the knowIedge we have we question it. Even if it was not questionned in the times of rasuIIah SAW, Sahabah and saIaf etc we stiII question it.

why? why? why? is our mindset today when it shouId be been yes, yes, yes (without question) as was the habit of our saIaf. which as a resuIt aIIah SWT made them his true viceroys in this worId and us the current modern day punch bags of the worId.

I really do appreciate guest's comment about differing opinions on what beautifies and what does not.

A situation once arose between man and wife regarding the nose piercing: he wanted her to have it, and she was intensely opposed to it. Ultimately, she had to concede that in obedience to him she would be rewarded, but boy did she search high and low for some evidence to imply it was an asian custom (strongly linked to a type of branding ... does one need her nose pierced to be identified as a married woman? Besides, wearing a niqab usually deters unwarranted advances *much* more effectively!!!) and was actually deplorable in Islam ! No such luck !

Mind you, I was told by a more learned sister than myself, that certain bedouin women in the times of the Prophet (SAW) used to pierce their noses, and were not prevented from doing so.

Bottom line is always that actions are according to intentions ... Allahu Alam.

One would hope that spouses would also consider the personal preference of the other when it comes to matters like these - needless to say, it's the woman who'd be suffering the pain and inconvenience of having the piercing done, were it forced upon her. Hmm.

But then, to subdue one's own will is the essence of tazkiyyah, so I shall lower myself back into my seat after having stood in such indignation, and hope that it's not too late !
