Can someone post me the adaab on drinking zam zam water. i dont know if theres a dif in the adaab when in front of kaba and when at home i.e in UK.

Mufti farooq did mention this a year or so back but cant remember the full details. Amongt the things i think he said was that the hadith in which is described App SAW standing and drinking zam zam was primarilly because some sort of obstruction was near him which preventing him from sitting so you cannot say outright that to stand and drink it is a sunnah???? any help would be appreciated.

When drinking Zamzam,

it is Mustahab to face the Qibla,

say Bismillah,

drink in three breaks(i.e. breathe twice outside the vessel.)

When one finishes drinking, one should say "Al-Hamdu lillah" and then followed it with the following Du'a:

" اللَّهُمَّ إنِّي أسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا ، ورزْقًا واسِعًا ، وَشِفَاءً مِنْ آُلِّ دَاءٍ . "

it seem to be a must in most households to stand when drinking zamzam. I have also heard its not necessary to stand. one may also sit and drink.

I have also heard you dont have to face the qiblah when drinking. rather, its an etiquet. however, one must remember, an etiquet is also a reward. and rewards are what we need!!

and for every 1 adaab we perform, we receive the reward for it. so imagine how many different rewards one receives when doing something - starting off with intention and 'Bismillah'

good points. jazakallah

on the standing part ok it may be mustahub/etiquette but the prob lies when people INSIST on it which sometimes gives the impression that it may be higher then what it is i.e. sunnah. bit like the nafl fast of shabaan when people insist on it which gives the impression that its an emphasised sunnah.

can some find some reliable link for the facing qibla part?

jazakallah once again

Assalamu Alaykum,

With the standing whilst drinking zamzam, the reason why so many people (especially asians) say that you must stand is because of a hadeeth of the prophet it which it mentions that once the prophet (saw) was dfrinking zamzam whilst standing but in actual fact it was because there was mud undernath so he didn't want that to touch him.

although some ulama say it is mustahab to stand, otjhers actually do say that you don;'t have to at all.

I found this thread whilst testing something else and I'm glad I found, Alhumdulillah.

I never knew that the reason for standing and drinking of the Zamzam was because or the dirt, SubhanAllah. I always thought it was so that we could drink Zamzam to the fill (i.e. not pressing the stomoach whilst seated)

I've seen Salafi's standing and drinking here in the UK, facing Qiblah too. Maybe because they took the Hadith literaly as they do with every other Hadith too.
