Up until now I have refrained from posting to this topic, hoping that this topic would disappear.

Why? Well I find it reprehensible to malign another muslim, especially an Aalim who has done much to improve relations between the communities and provided a much required voice to the media for us Muslims.

What particularly irks me, is that by discussing his actions on a forum such as this, little or no beneift is gained. Also he is not able to explain himself which is so important - see below anecdote:

Once in a speech Maulana Bilal Saheb (Darul Uloom, Bury) related a story of a Sahaba who used to live far from the Masjid.

A plot of land, closer to the Masjid went up for sale and another Sahaba advised him that he should move to this place. The first Sahaba said that he did not wish to move closer to the Masjid and dismissed his suggestion.

This enraged the second Sahaba, who immediately related this to the Prophet (SAW). The Prophet (SAW) before responding called for the first Sahaba to come and explain.

The first Sahaba came to the Prophet (SAW) and admitted that he had no wish to live near the Masjid. He explained that he wish to live far from the Masjid since Allah rewards his servants for each step that he takes to the Masjid.

Maulana Bilal Saheb explained that we should learn to ALWAYS hear both sides of the story. This is the SUNNAH!!!!

I sincerely hope that admin either deletes this topic or steps are taken to ensure that when accusations are placed upon another Muslim, they are able to respond before it becomes a 'free for all'.

I apologise if I have caused any offence, this was sincerely not my intention.

Thank you one ummah...sometimes individuals don't think before they place judgement on other muslims...this is why following the sunnah is the best thing for us all....learnng from the sunnah .is the only was in which we would refrain from making comments about others......jazakALLAH again

Ibrahim Mogra must not be taken as one's Shaykh or followed. Since links cannot be posted here, please refer to Mufti Elias' website. In the search box of that website type '11239.' A question with all his batil statements is posted with evidence in the question and Mufti Saheb answers as follows:

"From the above, no Muslim should even listen to such a person who is hard to classify as a Muslim. Some of his statements are open and clear kufr in nature. Posing as a Deobandi does not legalize kufr."

And Allah Knows Best

Question

Assalamualaykum Below are the publicly available online statements/quotes/posts of a 'Shaykh' Ibrahim Mogra, a Deobandi Alim from UK. In light of these statements please advise whether it is still permissible to listen to his lectures or follow him. 1. "A few years ago a delegation of Christians and Muslims were in Brussels for a conference. For dinner we went to a restaurant in the centre of the city. I was thrilled to see that the nativity scene was re-enacted with life size figurines of the Virgin Mary and baby Jesus, the wise men, stables, straw and even live sheep! Why have I not seen this in Britain? It would be wonderful to show my children what the very special Jesus means to Christians and to discuss with them what he means to us and to learn the different beliefs we all hold. Merry Christmas to all Christians..." Source: www.onislam.net/english/back-to-religion/customizing-reli... 2. "#Merry Christmas to all Christians. Let's remember Jesus (pbuh) taught us: Love your neighbour. Love for others what you love for yourself." 12:34am - 25 Dec 12 Source: mobile.twitter.com/IbrahimMogra/status/283370058074443776 3. In an interview in the Masjid with a non-Muslim the following conversation took place with Shaykh Mogra: (A) Do you stand for gay people's rights? "Of course." (B) Do you stand for gay marriage? "If the 2 individuals who are of the same sex want to be married & they go for a civil partnership or marriage or whatever it is, if it is provided within the constitution & within the legal systems of our country, then they are entitled to." Source: m.youtube.com/watch?v=_liGynsux4A 4. In response to a question on twitter Shaykh Ibrahim Mogra replied as follows: "@Garmonowen: Should you not be discussing afterlife at green belt not football Ibrahim? ;-)" Absolutely but football's my other "religion" 8:00pm - 24 Aug 13 Source: mobile.twitter.com/IbrahimMogra/status/371346348404404224 5. on Shaykh Mogra's Twitter account it states: "Off to Westminster Abbey for Service of Thanksgiving for Life & Work of Nelson Mandela #mandela #freedom #justice #equality #rights #respect." 9:19am - 3 Mar 14 Westminster Abbey is essentially a Christian place of worship. Source: mobile.twitter.com/IbrahimMogra/status/440416209826512896 6: On the death of a Shia leader Shaykh Mogra posted on his twitter account the following statement: "Syedna M.Burhanuddin passes away aged 102, India. Inna lillahi wa'inna 'Ilayhi raji'un #RIP Condolences to Dawoodi Bohra Muslim community." 2:06pm - 19 Jan 14 Source: mobile.twitter.com/IbrahimMogra/status/424905721520873473 7. On his web page he indirectly praises wasteful pursuits & exposing of the awrah & all other vices associated with the Olympics when he states: "What a proud day it is as we host the London 2012 Olympics." Source: ibrahimmogra.com/2012/08/22/on-olympics/ 8. A leading UK newspaper states Shaykh Mogra signed up to guidelines reinforcing the need for religious leaders to accept inter-faith marriages. The article also carries a quote from Shaykh Mogra himself. Source: www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/how-christians-an... 9. On his twitter account he claims that a song at a football stadium gave him goose pimples & made the hair on his neck stand. See link: mobile.twitter.com/IbrahimMogra/status/455323800792760320 Aside from the aforementioned his twitter account: (A) Carries photographs of non-mahram women, (B) Promotes interfaith dialogue as if all religions are equal (C) Contains a musical video (D) Has a photograph of him posing at an interfaith gathering next to a non-mahram (E) Has a photograph of women performing Salah in the grounds of Masjid Al Aqsa

Answer

From the above, no Muslim should even listen to such a person who is hard to classify as a Muslim. Some of his statements are open and clear kufr in nature. Posing as a Deobandi does not legalize kufr.

And Allah Knows Best

I'm not a follower of the above mentioned, but I have been sent his work before (and I had to disagree with that particular piece on Salah times) But being associated with a person who holds such views is not good PR. I hope he doesn't hold the same views! I know a few people who respect him a lot for his work, and I've also given admiration to some of his work for 1st ethical.

We are too dumb nowadays that despite producing such statements of Kufr and Fisq, we try to avoid commenting for the sake of a label "'Alim".

There are certain ultra-Sufis who always keep lecturing brothers (about Husne dhann) who condemn such stupid actions. They should know that by doing so, they are just including themselves among the helpers of enemy of Islam. I wonder what kind of Islam they've learnt from their Tariqah!

There have to be limits to taweel. Many of the statements in that question are not capable of being subject to a valid alternative interpretation.

The Ulama don't act and it forces the laymen to act and then laymen turn on each other in sheer hatred and disgust and Ulama just watch from the sidelines knowing fully well that some of these opinions are blameworthy.

The problem is the people reading your post will take it as a attack on ulama, I wish I could give them a recent real life example which you and I and few others know so they would understand but we cant and some will just not understand the dirty politics that are being played out.
